I also hate it when people feel the need to comment on every single thread even if their opinion is pretty much irrelevant and their post doesn't add much to the conversation. It seems like some people just want to post constantly.

Welcome to live report threads in general.

Ken it applies to every LR thread not just SC2. It gets magnified because there are so many more people. x-x

I try to say something somewhat detailed and stay on topic. So many people though. And I want to talk solely about the game but I don't feel I have enough knowledge about it, so I try to balance discussion of the game with whatever is being talked about in the live report thread. I don't think I've ever posted less than 5 words, so I guess I'm not as bad as 70% of the people today lol.

Best LR was Inca vs Rain in GSL May (I think) when Rain destroyed half of Inca's base and Inca still won. So many people called gg preemptively when Rain pulled ahead (I think they even put a thing at the top of the page saying to stop doing that because it throws people off who can't watch the game), it was so funny when it ended.

They're fools. You should eat them.

Seriously, though, it's not like you gain that much respect from having a high post count - hopefully there aren't too many people actually doing it for that reason. Being a 'known name' from memorable blogs/hilarious posts/community contributions does a hell of a lot more than a high post count.

Live Report threads (for SC2 at least) remind me of how a group of friends might watch a football game (for example) except since all these people are connected in communication over the internet, they dump all these comments (cheers, petty arguments) into the thread. Since these people can't gather together with their buddies all the time to watch Starcraft so they can shout and yell and argue as the game plays out, they can use the LR threads as a proxy for it.

I'm not sure that this is such a terrible thing - though at that point it's pretty useless for those who are hoping for play by play analysis/reports (I know one guy has been doing this, Drazerk or something?).

I also hate it... Wait...

As someone who Actually uses LR Threads to make Live reports / Read live reports I do see a flurry of awful posters on them. For people actually wanting play by play reports you generally only need to scan the Original post for a link and ignore the rest.

LR threads are a place to shout random stuff about the games.
Its like you and a bunch of buds watching sports together; in this case, you wouldn't don a hat and monocle and start a debate on whether that 6pool was the correct choice- you yell "6pool", high five and yell random stuff (profanities, cheers, etc.).

How hard would it be to set up one of those web irc things and just link that in the OP so people can spam away, and then be adamant about one liners in the thread itself?

I think I've only posted in the LR topics for major events: MLG and Dreamhack (and maybe one NASL).

Other than that, I never post in it. No one really reads it since it's going at a fast-pace and the same shit gets said 1,000 times, me included.

that and the dumbest arguments get hooked for no fucking reason.

Yeah, I agree.

This.
I doubt many if at all people go into a live report with the intent to get their post count up. I mean, that's just silly. They go into the live report to share their feelings, to share the excitement that they feel contained within them. When I go into a live report, I apparently do what alot of you say is wrong.

+ Show Spoiler +

I scream HUKKKKKKK when he comes back against Naniwa to win the series.

I repeat what MC says because it helps make my day.

I laugh when players make mistakes, I cry when they lose. Starcraft is a sport to me, you're not going to prevent people from celebrating it. Even if desired, to ask everyone to try to give an opinion(which is probably wrong anyway) when they just want to shout their favorite players names.

Yes, this is a community of Starcraft aficionados, but in the end we're just a bunch of fans. And that's something I don't see anything wrong with.

LR threads are more in-game reactions for people who don't have anyone else they're watching games with. If you don't like that, then don't go to LR threads?

I agree that most of the posts in a LR thread are useless and annoying. But at the same time it adds a feeling like in a stadium where everybody is really excited. Maybe people could tone it down a bit and not post the same stuff over and over again, but overall I think it adds to the live experience.
Considering the post count, I guess if you balance your low content/low quality posting in LR threads with better posts in other threads it's ok. But if you only post like that you will eventually be banned. Kinda like a "posting MMA" that gets higher with good posts and lower with bad posts. If it gets too low you get demoted (warned/temp banned/banned).

Gotta admit, I noticed it too but it never really bugged me. Most of the actual discussion about the game I have with friends on skype.

I've never actually done a live thread in the many years ive been here... but isn't the entire concept behind it that the thread moves really fast and people's responses will be shorter as a result??

Yeah but some of the people post a variation of the same thing twice in a page, and no one really notices because the threads going so fast

example:

OMG BOXER JUST BUILT A BUNKER IN HIS OPPONENTS NATURAL
2 posts later from the same person
OH MY GOD BOXER BUNKER RUSH

I dont know if that ever happened but thats an example
Artillery spawned from the forges of Hell

well if it's the same person saying it twice ok, but I thought the complain was that many people on the same page of the thread will just say that or some variation on BOXER RUSH or whatever is happening. I'm asking isn't that kind of the point, that it functions like a slow chatroom??

I agree with this as far as SC2 live threads are concerned but BW threads are mainly someone actually updating on whats happening and then the rest are people talking about what could have happened etc. In the end if your kind of asking whether or not people care about post count I would think the answer would be no, at least imo only because it matters when you first registered here way more than your post count.

I see many people that have been here for a few months with like thousands of posts but before I always take someone seriously I never mind peeking at there profile just to see when they registered. I'm glad they have that feature on here for us all to see so we know the "TL" age of those speaking.

LR threads are the only decent part that is left of TL.

It's pure, unadulterated emotion, you enjoy an event and get the feeling of being part of a community, whereas in other sub-forums it's mostly idiotic teenagers babbling on and on about crap they haven't a clue about, completely inept at getting their point across and making up nonsensical BS arguments just for the sake of it.

It may sound arrogant but the average TLer just isn't worth having a discussion with, and especially not with the vast amount of mongoloids that drown out the one or two decent posts that might occur once in a while.

And concerning people not reading your posts, it's actually the exact other way around. Many, many more people read LR threads compared to actual 'discussion' threads because the average post length is much shorter and more to the point. The last LR thread I created received 2.4 million views, you can't tell me no-one read that.

I don't know, I mean sometimes in the heat of a really exciting moment after a big match gets over or something cool happens it can be very satisfying to post something that reflects the pure super-excited emotion that you are feeling, and see it up there next to people that are very excited about the same things you are, I'm not condoning it, just saying I can understand that.

LR threads usually get huge and posts gets buried pretty quickly, so they aren't really for live reporting anymore, its a place where people watching from home can just cheer and go crazy when something exciting happens alongside the only other people on this earth that also find SC2 matches ridiculously exciting and meaningful I don't find that dumb, I find that cool. Chickenlips above me said it very well.

Edit: also I think twitter feeds can more effectively serve the purpose that LR threads used to, and are a pretty cool tool that has come about.
