Loaded question, obviously. I know that streaming, in and of itself, won't really make me a better SC2 player. What I THINK is that streaming will put me on the spot and make me overcome my procrastination and/or lack of motivation to play. I'd like to get some opinions on this from anyone, as I've never streamed before, and I don't really watch any streams.
Also, I've watched a couple of hours of Destiny's stream and really enjoyed the music that he played, and felt like it made the stream experience more enjoyable... what do you guys think?
And how about webcams? Obviously it works better for girls, but for dudes - how do you like seeing a webcam in the corner of a stream you are watching? I personally think it's pretty cool because I like to see what's going on with a face while they are playing.. but maybe that's a weird quirk of mine?
and the polls:
Poll: Does streaming make you play more?I don't stream, but I think it would (12) 55% Yes it does (4) 18% No it doesn't (3) 14% I don't stream, and I don't think so (2) 9% I don't stream, and I don't know (1) 5% 22 total votes Your vote: Does streaming make you play more? (Vote): Yes it does (Vote): No it doesn't (Vote): I don't stream, but I think it would (Vote): I don't stream, and I don't think so (Vote): I don't stream, and I don't know
Poll: Music and/or webcam?Yes music/Yes webcam (10) 40% Yes music/No webcam (10) 40% No music/Yes webcam (3) 12% No music/No webcam (2) 8% 25 total votes Your vote: Music and/or webcam? (Vote): Yes music/Yes webcam (Vote): Yes music/No webcam (Vote): No music/Yes webcam (Vote): No music/No webcam
(edit: I don't have a stream, but I am thinking about it.. obviously!)
Please reply with your reasoning and any ideas/suggestions/opinions!

it can't hurt right? someone's got to tune in and talk to you about the game eventually :o. yes to music + cam, because it gives people more of a reason to watch if you actually interact ^^
|
I think it would help you out in tournaments, because you'd have the chance to get used to the exposure to a spotlight. Certainly it seems like you're gonna enjoy the new experience, so go for it!

that is totally true, i wasn't even thinking about that.. but i see what you mean
i was mostly thinking about it in the terms of how i respond to being put on the spot, such as drama club and wrestling in high school (both of which i did a lot of) you can't just stop doing it while people are watching!

that is another good point i never thought of... getting used to the pressure like that (which i've never had in a video game situation) is definitely something that is valuable

I was a platinum player about 2 months ago, and would always go on losing streaks versus platinum players which really made me mad.
Then I downloaded xsplit and streamed games to my friend flashback from vile (GM Protoss) whom essentially guided me and told me what I was doing right and wrong, and did that for about 18~ games (went 15-3). There was about a 5-10 second delay on the stream so it wasn't perfect. However, it definitely did help and now I win about 70% of my games against low-mid masters players.

what race/league are you ;O

well, technically i am diamond random.. but really, i am playing around the platinum level right now as protoss (i was diamond in season 1 as random, but stopped playing way before masters release because i was jaded about lack of chat rooms/etc.. i felt the game was too hands-off)
i am focusing on protoss only because i have read (and obviously it makes sense) that it is much more realistic to get better at one race than as random because you get more practice with that single race's build orders/matchups... i chose protoss because it was my main race in BW, though i think all of my races are about equal in sc2
i actually just got home from buying a webcam at wal-mart... lol

hell yea, thanks!.. don't expect too much though, i am still learning how to play sc2 (i literally got to diamond last season, and platinum on alt account this season by making only sc/bw units {learning to use sentries and warpgates now.... shhh} and playing like it was broodwar)
i try to make shit interesting though! i try to do build orders, but forget things and just improvise!

Do you already play daily? I think that if you don't already play daily, you won't have enough motivation to stream and host a show. Main point of a stream should always be to entertain your viewers imo.

The feedback you get from streaming will probably be the thing that helps you.

i try to play daily but sometimes can't get the motivation to get online... i think this will help me, i will try to host a show at the same time every day!

It's anecdotal but what I've heard streaming is very useful for is playing in a public setting and getting used to the pressure which comes from having people watch your games. At MLG and the like you have to play in a very open setting where anyone can watch your games. This really throws off a ton of people and they play poorly as a result. Streaming gets you used to social interaction while playing and can help you acclimatize to a LAN enviroment.
