So i recently found out that the iccup season was almost over. After achieving a new high rank of C last season, my rank had been stagnating all throughout the current season. I had my 3 accounts sitting at C- to C about a week after the season started until just recently, when i managed to make them all hit C. Initially i was tempted to not even try for C+, thinking i'd never make and instead played on other servers etc even though i'd gotten really close on a couple of occasions (1-2 wins from C+).
However, i finished one of my last uni assignments yesterday, and got a spur of motivation, so i sat down and laddered. No streaming, just playing to win in optimal conditions. After 13 games i did it! I achieved my first C+ ranking on iccup!
At first i wasn't going to blog this, but i figured that attempting to brag on IRC was getting tacky, so i figured, why not do a battle report. Take heed tho, this isn't like my normal battle reports. The games that i've reported on in the past have been standard ladder games that i thought were entertaining or challenged me.
This one is different. This game was played a few hours after i'd gotten my C+ ranking. I was streaming and playing some games on fish, and well, i dont want to spoil the battle report, but the game was pretty hillarious. To add to my normal battle report format, i'll also include the vod of the game from my stream in a youtube clip so you can watch my reaction in real time (many laughs were had).
The game opens up as a PvT on the popular map Fighting Spirit
My opponent, mmh0729, spawns in the bottom right as the orange terran, while i spawn in the bottom left at the white protoss.
Before the game had started, SnowFantasy had informed me in my chat that this player was "garbage", so i opened up the floor to build order suggestions. The first one that wasn't "5 hatch" was 1 base carrier, so i lept straight into it, with an early scout to check for cheese. However, because of my opponents curious barracks placement, i completely miss-scout him, with my probe walking into and out of his base without spotting anything, meaning my early scout was useless The probe ended up going to each base twice D:
Unawares of my shenanigans, i opponent does a fairly traditional factory first build with the intention of an FD push...i assume
Meanwhile my carrier tech is coming along nicely!
Its at this point things start to get a little weird. my opponent kills his own gas :O:O
whats this, where have all his scv's gone??
Oh, they're stacked up killing my nexus. Turns out the having 24 glitch-stacked scv's in an fd push makes it a little bit more scary (note: stacked attacking with workers is a bannable offense on most servers and proleague etc)
However, i get one carrier out! but i cant afford another nexus
some marines sneak past my carrier on the way to his base
And although my carrier is mighty...
This is a base race i cannot win

haha yeah, after streaming for like 5 hours and it being like 3 in the morning i didn't have it in me to do a proper battle report. But i didn't want to just throw up a blog without some content, so i compromised ^_^
It was a melee game played on fish server. I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to go about reporting abuse, and whether they'd care for non-ladder games (i'd guess not). Just thought it was worth mentioning for the people not as familiar with brood war glitches (ie: stacked mutas are allowed, stacked workers not etc)
congrats <3 a week ago or so I made it out of D- back up to D and was actually happy so C+ must feel good
btw: I at least somehow expected you to win against tlo, but you couldn't expect a PvP army in a PvZ right? :D +sc2bw is still different even tho I feel it gets better over time, by now they have something "like" muta stacking <3 + Show Spoiler +

the problem was more that apart from 9 hatch speedling allin, my zerg is like D-/D. Unlike some other people, i barely ever practice my off races, and when i do its just silly cheese, so yeah, trying to play somewhat standard (i'd go as far to say a lurker opening on desti IS standard) was a mistake
racing to ranks at the start of season is just a complete crapshoot tho D: you can end up hitting strings of b/a ranks, then u hit a string of D-, its sooooooooooooo weird
Congratz Kiante to your C+. Shame on me that i gave up and not play bw lately as i have too little free time and when i get a while i prefer FPS as it is not that exhausting as bw. Anyways keep it up, keep bw alive!

It's a crapshoot for both of us. When you hit strings of d- players you get too high too fast and get smacked down by the rising B's xD Let's do it!

Ah yes dear Kiante, it was quite strange, I opened your stream right as the Terran drilled you and you lost your nexus (so no idea about the reasons behind 1-gate 1-base carrier), and I was actually getting annoyed, to myself, about the horrible decision making of not attacking with your probes and spending too much on interceptors so that you had no 400 minerals for another nexus. But it was fun and funny, + 'grats. Now if only I played a DIFFERENT race C+ would be so much closer ^^ q;
