I came into the scene relatively late in the Brood War timeline (A little after the fall of Savior to Bisu). This new found obsession was something I could not share with anybody else I knew. Looking for like minded persons, I came across scforall and eventually Team Liquid. This rich and vibrant community was often the only thing on my mind during dull high school classes and I began to take pride that I had a hobby that very few people would ever understand or appreciate.
After the release of SC2 Beta, the forums have become exponentially worse. I can no longer gain a wealth of information just browsing the strategy forums, and the niche hobby feel has disappeared. Now I am just a tiny part of a very loud and growing community. A selfish side of me wishes the Starcraft scene was still a dying community so I could still feel like I was a part of something special. The logical part of me will be the nonvocal minority in a growing community and support the growth of esports!
Thanks Team Liquid.
*On a side note, I am looking to watching more Brood War. Are there any new up and comers to look for in the scene? I've been living under a rock as far as BW goes.*
