Hey guys,
I need some advice!
My family and I have been finding nails in our driveway everyday. The driveway is fairly large and square and is right up against the street. Typically we find 4-5 throughout the day. They aren't coming from anything we're doing or us accidentally dropping them, as we don't own anything like those. The ones we find out there right now are about 1 and 1/2 inches long. This gets pretty annoying, as we obviously have to scour our driveway for nails before we leave for anything, and if they appear there while we're out we'll just end up driving over them on our way in. This has happened before- a couple months back, we kept finding large amounts of very small and sharp screws in our driveway, like these ones:

Which cost us 3 new tires total. I'm not normally a very accusatory person, but someone is obviously doing this. Its happened before, the nails are always the same shape, and are the perfect size for getting stuck in a tire and deflating it.
You guys have any ideas about what we could do about this in regards to catching someone? I've got nothing. We can report it to the police, which we have, but it's not like they can do anything about that.

stay up all night and watch. install a lot of motion detection lights.

Has any new family moved in across the street with kids?
But motion sensing floodlights are a good idea, couldn't hurt to ask your neighbors to keep an eye out for odd going's on.
Unless it's them trolling, in which case that's a bad idea.

Hide a video camera in a bush or something and see if anyone (probably kid) comes to do it again.

Do you have any enemies or someone you've pissed off that's out for revenge? Hide in a bush with a paintball gun and wait for them.

El problemo is that it's likely to be someone driving by and throwing nails out a car window rather than placing them there. Which makes extra lighting probably not helpful. I thought about the camera idea, but we'd need a camera. Hmmm....

if you have 2 entrances to your drive, take the nails and put them on the road outside one entrance and only leave via the other entrance.
When they next come around, ppppssshhhhhhhh with their own nails.

Does it happen to your neighbours? Do you think it's likely that it's someone you know or is most likely random people fucking about? Hide in a bush, see if you recognize them or their car, if you do then go drop nails in their driveway.

Buy a transparent fine net, uncover/cover your driveway before/after using it, and start selling the nails online.
If you feel like it, make an easily readable sign that says "Thanks for the free nails!  "

This whole scenario just seems so unlikely. Who would waste their time and effort doing something as pointlessly malicious as this? I guess kids are really stupid sometimes, but I think it's equally likely that Spaceman is trolling as it is that nails and screws are being thrown on his driveway.
