[WBTT] Woah, Hallucinate Doesn't Work Like That!

There's no good place in the SC2 forum for this... and anyway it's not really a strategy thing at all. And yes, WBTT stands for "way behind the times". But me, in all my silver glory...

Watching orb's stream I just realized that Protoss can apparently create hallucinations of units they can't build yet... but checking liquipedia there are some units they can't hallucinate at all. To this point I had just assumed it worked just like the BW spell. Are there particular strategic reasons for the change, or is it just something that changed just to change?

The only thing that occurs to me right away... is that this makes scouting easier for Protoss than it "ought" to be since you can create hallucinated phoenixes when you have no stargate. Which just seems weird.

Hallu'd phoenixes is how protoss scouts what zerg is doing when doing 3gate sentry expand

Sometimes, if you hallucinate a bunch of void rays you can beat idra.

Hmm,this is a really nice strategy, wonder how Idra could counter it.

Maybe with reverted GG timing strategy of Fantasy?

Hallucinations: just another reason not to let your Sentries die.

I'm especially intrigued by the fact that you can hallucinate 2 High Templar instead of just 1. I really hope to see some pros creating a bunch of decoy HTs to absorb EMPs.

Anyways, I think hallucinated Carriers would be pretty imba, especially with the Interceptors screwing around with unit targeting.

Also depending on what you hallucinate you can create multiples of things, if you pick a zealot i believe it spawns 3 zealots. So they can take some damage or lead your line for your stalkers. If you pick probes it spawns 4 o.o;

In brood war, zerg and terran units could be hallucinated too. (If i remember correctly.) sooooooo mass hallucinate BCs and carriers? HELL YEAH!
