I started playing SC2 again hardcore-ish recently. Right now I'm rank 30 Diamond (as if that means anything, I'm still awful). I might be awful, but there are tooooooooons of people worse than I am. I've been killing platinum dumbasses and losing to diamond nublets through things I wouldn't if I had played more and became familiar with timings.
I play random. Once I actually figure out what to do in some of my weak matchups and get game sense and timing I'll hopefully move up to masters. Here's what I do for each matchup and my awful guess at a winrate%:
---skip past here cuz u gots the attention deficit---
zvz 100%: 15 hatch, put roaches on ramp, defend speedling attack, gg i win 100% of games
zvt 50%: harass with muta, get fungals, camp outside his natural, ultra baneling, type "GG? LOL." I'm awful at zvt and this is one of the matchups I need to learn the terran timings and attacks.
zvp 60%: make roaches, fungal his army, gg. I don't feel this matchup is very deep. I need to learn to recognize an aggressive protoss style.
pvp 90%: adel no gas pvp. 2gate, attack with 4 zealots and chrono 2 stalkers, cannon your expo, kill his colossus, gg. everyone 4gates and they'll find the cannons and be behind, or try to break it and lose.
pvt 50%: hide in base, rush colossus, gg. another matchup i dont know well.
pvz 65%: i usually just get 2 forges fast, cover the map in observers and make a ton of gateways. not much going on in this matchup strategy wise.
tvt 90%: 2fact tank bw style, make a viking and turrets outside his base, gg. diamond terrans seem to have no idea how to play vs a contain and my positioning is good.
tvz 50%: 2fact tank, hide at natural behind 3 bunkers and 50 siege tanks until he sees it and expands too much like an idiot, gg. i lose this because i usually get too happy with the thors before i actually do damage to his base, or because i dont find out what hes doing.
tvp: 60%: 4 starport MASS BANSHEE. protoss have no fucking idea what to do against this and i usually win because they go stalker, or they go phoenix and i have 4 ports to make vikings. i lose this because i dont know the aggressive protoss openings and early game i'm only making off 1 barracks.
---skip to here cuz ur lazy and didnt read---
My original plan was to stream some replays and say stupid shit about how bad I am, but I saw 50+ streams listed and figured no one would bother lol. Also I couldn't find the guide on how to set up a stream and I'm not in the mood to solve puzzles. So this second half will be about random comments relating to starcraft that may or may not be interesting.
Because I play random, strange things often happen in my games. I see folks scout with their first worker. I see people ball up around their nexus because they assume I'll 6pool. You don't need to scout that early, random or not. You don't need to build your shit in a clump around your minerals. You only need to scout when the information will change your strategy. In the early game, this could be as late as when you get lings or that first stalker.
I think platinum is probably the worst league to be in. Bronze league is like "oh, i haven't played the game much, but when I do I'll probably move up to silver!!!!1!" and silver and gold are like "yah im getting better lulz but i still gotz plenty 2 lerns," but platinum is like "yuh i know lots of sc stuff and im good but too fucking lazy to improve and be actually good"
Casuals (a popular euphemism for idiots) think random is a race of cheesers. This couldn't be further from the truth. To be a random player, you need to love to play every race. This scientific term is known as RANDOM PRIED. Whenever you see a random player on the ladder, salute their love of starcraft and yell RANDOM PRIED.
