Several days I took the plunge on a new mechanical board - the limited edition Filco Majestouch Linear R 104-key with Cherry MX Red switches. I'm coming from months of use of Filco's Cherry MX Brown and Blue switches, but after touching the Linear R, I don't know when and if I will switch back...
The Cherry Reds are basically lighter version of Blacks - linear switches with no tactile feedback though they require 15g less force to actuate. I had fatigue problems of typing for long periods on my friend's keyboard with Cherry Blacks, but the red's solve this problem completely. Typing on this keyboard is butter smooth - your fingers literally glide over the keys and takes very little effort to actuate. There's a huge hype about Cherry Red's on geekhack.org and on person described them as a cloud of boobs - I can understand that now. The sound of bottoming these keys are lighter than any of the other switches - probably because it takes less force to actuate the keys. I'd also describe the sound of typing is extremely relaxing.
So basically if you're still looking for a nice mechanical board and something lighter on your fingers - check out the Filco Majestouch Linear R. They're amazing for SC2 - absolutely no fatigue or missed presses even with the light switches for me - I'm even more accurate than when I use my Browns. I'm shamelessly posting this blog post because I enjoy typing on these switches so much. Check them out on Amazon - the tenkeyless version sold out in a matter of hours but the 104-key is still available, although pricey. It does come with a key-puller and red ESC and WASD keys since this is a limited time package. As always, the build quality is incredible - leagues ahead of any other brand of keyboard I've ever tried.
Check it out - you won't be disappointed: http://www.amazon.com/Filco-Majestouch-2-ASCII-Switch-FKBN104MR/dp/B004OX4HWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304736920&sr=1-1-catcorr

Not trying to burst your bubble or maybe i am. > After few months of use,There are quite a few geekhack posts of ppl reverting back to brown from red.
Glad you like it though. Filco's build quality has always been top-notch.
Is there a ninja edition for filco reds?

Damn, that's a heavy price tag for that sort of price I might as well spend and get a topre.

I use Topre at home and Filco MX Brown at work. I think the MX Brown is a better gaming / pure typing keyboard. Topre is quieter and still offers a good typing experience. Doesn't click as much as MX Brown, but it still has some tactility. Can't imagine using a keyboard with even less tactility (like the MX linear switches).

Its so expensive though

I very much like my Majestouch with blues. Though It sometimes drives people on skype nuts :O
|
Yeah I'd love to use Reds, but they're pretty costly. I can't justify getting another mechanical either, when my Browns are working perfectly fine right now
|
You'll be back to browns in no time.

while i cant vouch for your reds, the filco majestouch with browns i purchased last month remains to be the best computer related purchase i've ever made. I couldn't be more happy, I didnt think a keyboard would make such a difference but its pretty goddamn incredible!

Amazon is out
How do you like the reds 3 weeks later? I can't believe people are saying you will switch back to tactile blues and browns.
I've been seeing more people shifting towards the linears and it seems like the blue/brown bandwagon is over since the linear switches are becoming somewhat more available.
Steelseries say they conducted blind tests and the great majority wound up saying they liked the MX cherry black switches the best but reds are similar just less actuation force.
If anyone has an otaku fullsize linear filco I am looking to buy one
