I've read the whole post and there were none in there that were flames or direct insults. A few people said man up and get over it there is nothing you can do, which is a pretty reasonable opinion to hold, its pretty tough to change someone beliefs from 30+ years of reinforcement. I just can't fathom why you would have banned anyone. As far as the original topic you said you have talked to your dad and he just makes racist counterarguments. Are his arguments actively supporting racist beliefs, or is he making those kind of jokes because he thinks they are funny? I find it pretty accurate. Maybe you're noticing the problem way too much. Honestly, we can't judge you, but we also can't judge your father from the very limited, maybe manipulated information you've given us.

If they are not going to take the time to write more than a 1-sentence reply, they are not adding anything to the discussion and shouldn't be here. If I write a few paragraphs in the OP, i expect a little effort out of the replies.

If someone does indeed appear to get upset or more sensitive to things such as race and racism, I will tone it down and try to be more tasteful. I do not consider myself to be racist (Racism is the belief that there are inherent differences in people's traits and capacities which are entirely due to their race, however defined, and which consequently justify those people being treated differently, both socially and legally. Alternatively, racism is the practice of certain group/s of people being treated differently, which is then justified by recourse to racial sterotyping or pseudo-science. woo wikipedia) in the slightest. If anything, I simply make note that in my experiences a lot of the stereotypes people accociate with being racist tend to be true, eg a lot of black people I know play basketball but also seem to be somewhat on the slow side mentally, a lot of aboriginal people smoke and/or are alcoholic, so on and so forth. As long as you don't act upon the stereotypes obviously when you are meeting someone, I see no problem with taking note of things such as these.

edit: If you really want to hear about racism you should listen to my boss. He straight up says 'niggers' all the time and today had a conversation about how he's not a nigger because he cleans his shit up and does a good job(he's a construction contractor). That's racism to me, making some stereotypical jokes isn't.

Obese people are obese because they let themselves get that way, while people of different races have no control over their skin colour/culture. If someone choses to let themselves become obese, then fine, they made that choice knowing they will probably be made fun of. However, people didn't choose to be what race they are, and making fun of someone because of they stereotypes of their race isn't fair. Replace fat jokes with sexist jokes and it doesn't change much. The comparison wasn't the point of my post. The point was that they are often joked about and laughed at, whether the stereotype is true or not. Unless it becomes harassment, I think you are overreacting and just need to let it go.

I have muslim friends who tell great self depreciating jokes and then go on to rib me as a white. They aren't racist, quite the opposite, its a sign of maturity that we can take it. It opens our eyes to the differences and helps us tolerate them. If it really bothers you and you think he crossed some line then speak to him about it. Posting a blog about it may salve the concious a bit but it has little practical value. It's because of political correctness that the world has "waitrons" instead of waiters and waitresses, "holiday" trees instead of Christmas trees and so on. If your dads comments stem from ignorance, correct him. If its you being too PC, then lighten up, I want my waitresses and Christmas trees back!

I would say, as long as he doesn't act on his racism, directly affecting people, leave him be. Everyone's bit racist.

Oversensitivity is a flaw in a character and you should seek to stamp it out of yourself, because its pathetic.

South american are drugs dealears... this "war against terrorism" shit pisses me off so much, is just the american excuse for invading a country for no reason, and most ppl belive this shit, and end up making stupid comments about Arabs like "When I am at an airport and I see someone in a turban I get a little nervous"... Honestly, I feel like suicide bombers would be smart enough to specifically NOT wear clothing that would attract attention / cause suspicion... for me, seeing a turban = k this guy definitely isn't a terrorist (not that that's my actual thought process XD).

America is going through the whole illegal immigrants taking american work and there's a lot of people that are really pissed about it because they are unemployed and won't work at the same wages as the immigrants will. I know it's not nice to say, but I don't think it's racist, exactly. A lot of work is already outsourced to foreign countries due to them being willing to work for lower wages. I don't find that this is much different at all from foreign workers, illegal or not, taking jobs within the country at wages that complacent Americans are unwilling to work for.

Having the political view that immigrants are bad is also acceptable for me but this depends on how well articulated this opinion is. But then again to never be cool with people because they are different, like the constant puns or whatever would probably be to much for me as well.

I don't consider it to be a big problem because hes probably always going to be like that, it is probably to late to change his views on those kinds of things and as long as he isn't being overtly racist I would leave the issue alone. You could stir up a hornets nest if you aren't careful. Take care hope you sort it out with your dad, or learn to live with it (everyone has their faults)

But you post this blog anyway, and when people start calling you naive and overly sensitive (which judging from this blog you most definitely are), you can't take it and start banning people from your blog. If this is what you're like, I'd much rather hang out with your Dad instead of you, and I'm Asian. Do I think racist jokes and wisecracks are harmless? No, I actually don't. But when you say "there's no proper reason to be this bad" I can't agree with you anymore.
