You know what really astounds me?
Just imagining how much product is being consumed there.
War on drugs? Laughable.

What do administration and the police do about this?

They make sure fights don't break out... Which never happens, of course
The administration makes the stance of being against this, but at the same time they "inherit it by virtue of being an open campus."

So marijuana is illegal, and you have 10,000 people partaking of an illegal substance in the most obvious place in the entire city. You all must have some weird cops up there.

It would be hilarious if the cops actually tried to do anything about this. Seriously, I would love to see them try.

While I don't think they care about a gathering of potheads, but I think you think a little too lightly of police. I'm sure they could shut the whole thing down in an hour if they wanted to.

Maybe if they brought in the entire police force from the Denver-metro area, they'd be able to have the manpower to cover every area of campus. If they tried to disperse this crowd it would be pretty chaotic I would imagine, considering there so many other places on this campus that people would go to.
Plus, Americans have the right to peacefully protest right?

And I thought 4:20 here was bad.
I live near the highschool, and like 20 people were smoking pot in cars in front of my house.
Mom had a cow and called the police on them >.>

Haha Colorado, yeahhhhhhh.
nice pictures thanks for sharing =] didn't think there'd be THAT many people gathered up for it. It'll only get bigger year after year.

I love how white kids at the university can smoke and there's no problems from the cops yet minorities get shot or arrested over this shit.
Sorry, I'm not usually into the whole racial inequality cries, but this just has to be said. How the fuck do these white kids manage it?
It's not like I'm hating on them for being able to smoke and relax. I guess I'm trying to say we all should be able to, but I doubt much ppl reading this thread would disagree with me.

10 cops can't arrest 10000 people no matter how hard they try. Has nothing to do with race.

Man I miss Boulder so much. Used to live there. I was there last year for 4/20 and it was amazing. I love how everyone migrates to the hill for food.
And to the guy pulling the race card, you obviously have never been to Boulder. Everyone smokes weed. I've seen people walking down a public outdoor mall smoking a joint. Boulder is a big hippie town.

Am I the only one who thinks it's incredibly stupid for a large group of people to band together and do something illegal?
I don't have a personal problem with marijuana. I don't smoke, but I don't think it should be illegal. Regardless it is illegal.
If the cops decided to arrest some of the people in that mob (since what they're doing is illegal), I assume there would be no rioting or protesting or problems whatsoever, right? Doubtful.
Just imagine if another group of people selected a day of the year to celebrate doing another illegal activity (a worse drug? something with guns perhaps?) and started doing those en masse.
I don't see how this is awesome. I see it as law enforcement not being consistent with their rules, and therefore making it appear that they don't take their laws seriously. I also think it's stupid for them to turn a blind eye to you guys so blatantly sticking up your middle finger to the law. I honestly don't understand what reason there is for you guys not to have been arrested. Because there were a lot of you?
Granted, I think pot should be legalized. But until it is, I think people should be following the rules.

I can't imagine what you must think about the civil rights movement, when the protestors were breaking the law en masse by using whites-only water fountains and sitting at the front of the bus.
I have news for you: The law is busted in certain areas, and the only way to fix it is to get outside and do something about it. Everyone there was risking getting a ticket for possession and possibly even a suspension from the University if the law was so inclined to pursue us. But hopefully if enough people blatantly stick their middle finger to the law at once, maybe they'll actually change something.

To think that all was for some weed. This goes to show how much people care about it and how much money could be made off of it if it was legalized
|
Ugh, I dislike 4/20. Sitting on the bus for an hour to go 2 blocks, that's cool. Having a bunch of people clearly unable to function try to swindle the bus driver, that's cool. Having said people stink up the bus for the whole ride, even better.
Bad experiences for me. I have never, and will never, smoke pot.

This reminds me of Hash Bash here in Ann Arbor. Boulder looks like its has more people, but definitely the same huge cloud of smoke. Like McTenor said, here at UofM its like a 20-25 dollar fine at the most. So people really don't hide it much anyways (well, outside of the dorms where they actually care)

It's laughable because the university sent out an email telling students not to go because it "degrades our degree and school," while they even had the kindness to set up event parking for the people coming in from all over, deal with it and stop being such bitches CU. Either embrace it or shut it down, stop being two faced.
|
I think it brings in quite a bit of attention and garners some kind of interest from prospective students, don't you think?

In san francisco marijuana is unofficially legal lol . You can smoke it wherever whenever

Boulder is a much better version of capitol hill in Denver but it's essentially the same thing. thousands of stoners gettin' stoned while the police just stand and talk its amazing and that's how it SHOULD be.. i don;t even really smoke any more but these two instances are proof that weed is not bad.

Why would it be hilarious? You think the police have never shut down 10k people before? Have you ever heard of the National Guard?
I'm all for the legalization of marijuana (or do I need to call it "product" to be cool?), but let's not kid ourselves that the government is powerless to stop a force of 10,000 stoners.

This whole thing just baffles me. I mean, would 10k people getting together on October 11th every year (random day) to shoot heroin be ok? Would police stand idly by? Don't get me wrong, I think pot should be legal but that's not my point. I am just shocked people can actually just blatantly break the law in front of law enforcement and it's no big deal LOL.

Did I ever meet you Meta? Ben, did you go hit up the same gig?
If you don't mind my asking, what did you guys roll up with? What were your smoking habits for the day?
I was up there last year in the quad and the shit was intense. There were so many people who had personal blunts, and they smoked so much, that they were just floating in and out of my peripheral hitting sphere constantly. I remember walking up to the hill and seeing a scene out of a zombie movie. In my ludicrous state all of the sunlight was saturated and blinding.
Because it is so deliberate and extravagant, I'd like to hear what your plans were and if anything strange happened.

I don't think we met.
I went up there that day with two friends from out of town, split a J between 4 people and left
Nothing too extravagant. I have a pretty high tolerance though, so it was just business as usual that day. There were definitely people doing it big though, I saw people with personal blunts and one group with probably the biggest blunt I've ever seen outside of cheech and chong movies. I just wish the weather was nicer

I actually really wish I had taken pictures of 420 here.
I don't know if anyone's posted about where I live yet, but yeah~ I live in Vancouver BC, and every 420 everyone meets at the Art Gallery and chills. This year, it was fantastic. They had a live band playing, public figures speaking out, there were booths everywhere.. It was fantastic because it was actually treated like a festival, or something to celebrate, not just people getting together and hanging out like it usually is.
There were people standing up and speaking about legalizing marijuana, speaking about getting Stephen Harper out of office, lots of people speaking out about the upcoming election and such~
Felt good. ^^ Vancouver is an awesome place to live.
