Hello everybody,

I'm trying to stop playing SC2 and have quite a hard time with this. I've been quite a successful caster in the French scene, top master (top 1000 euro at a time), but am wanting to completly quit playing this game.
But it's hard, because I'm so used to watching the GSL, streams, reading TL, and all that sort of things. Even though it has only be one year, I don't feel like dropping all this habits at once.

So, even though TL might not be the best place to find people who fled from TL, I'm coming here with this question : how to quit SC2 ?
I think I should find another hobby to smoothly «transition», do you have any idea or suggestion ?

Thank you very much.

PS : And to those who will ask why I want to stop, well, it's because the more I play, the more I come to realize that SC2 isn't a «serious» game. It's (read : 1v1 ladder) not well thought for just playing and having fun improving.

When I want to quit something, I "burn my bridges," meaning I destroy my ability to return to something.

So for SC2, you could de-install in from your computer, sell your CD, and block TL.net from your computer using web filtering software.

good luck.

Think your asking in the wrong place since everyone here is failing at that particular task.

Find something else to take your time definitely is key. Quitting TL...lol I wish I could tell you how to do that but I can't. I've tried when I quit TL multiple times...and as you can see I am still posting .

I'm doing the same thing man. Well I still watch SC and browse TL a bit but not playing is a start (:

Start by uninstalling the game. Throw the disk out if you have one (you can always dl it from battlenet later, but it takes forever, which is good).

Try to limit your time spent on teamliquid and watching streams. I still do this a lot but it's not the biggest deal if you're doing other stuff at the same time (hw, picking up room, etc), or have it alt tabbed until you hear the casters going crazy. No need to go cold turkey completely.

Just find something else you like doing. I'm trying to get away from video games entirely so I read and go to the gym a lot more. And spend more time doing schoolwork in general. Just try different things and find something you are comfortable with!

Hope that helps, good luck

Ask for a permanent ban, that should stop you from posting here in TL. Also, it really does turn your mindset into a lurker then if you want to post you can't since you're banned.

I'm pretty serious, last time I got 1 week. I almost stopped checking this website. almost.
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

I can't imagine trying to quit either TL or SC... I really think occupying your time with another hobby is really the only way. Either way, I wish you luck because from everyone I've heard that tries to quit... you'll need it!

Having that said, asking TL how to quit TL is kind of the same thing as going to an alcoholic's house, opening a bottle of scotch and asking how to quit drinking.

Uninstalling starcraft from all your computers and than burning the disk works wonders. The reason being because it takes hours to redownload and repatch s2.I did that and I hardly play sc, and for some reason i am watching less tournaments as well.

Best way to give something up: World of Warcraft.

Seriously though, don't play WoW if you don't already lol. Just do what you just said and find another hobby to smoothly transition into. Find another website to visit first thing when you wake up.

That being said, you will be back

Meh, Just get bored of it, I quit SC2 for awhile because of things like school, looking for a job, and stuff, but eventually came back to it because I realized it was fun for me. If you want to quit, that means it got boring for you so what's the problem with quitting?

start by just stopping playing. Still watch games if you still enjoy them. Then cut back how much you watch. Say only watch matches with your favorite players instead of everything.

Three Steps:
1.Deinstall SC2, then sell or give away your Battle.net account
2. Kindly ask someone from the TL mods to permaban you, in fact, to delete your account from all existence.
3. Get a job or otherwise time consuming activity to keep you busy while you transition.

Good luck!

Easiest way to quit TL is to put the phrase "I'll probably be banned for this, but..." somewhere in your post.

Agreed. Burn all ties to SC2 and TL, and then find something else to take up all your time!

Good luck

I was absolutely addicted to BW and probably am slightly to SCII although not as much. My time with BW actually began causing problems in my RL that required me to make some changes. I deleted BW from my computer, broke the disc and threw it away and deleted all the related sites from my favorites lists.

Once you break the ability to play it you become less concerned with whats going on in the game but at some point you have to have enough self control to stop visiting the sites as well, as time goes on you just stop caring about whats going on in the scene.

The biggest thing to do is probably just replace this habit with another. This is where you need to come to terms with whats important for you, what you enjoy, don't enjoy and how you wanna spend your time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having hobbies as long as they don't cause problems in your daily life so do what you enjoy.

Good luck man.

I would say from personal experience, that the best way to stop doing something is to find somethign else better to do.

So find something good to do.

:D

Find something else to spend your time on? I sometimes often feel like I burn way too much of my time here too, but if I find something else really interested I can stay off TL for a while... haha.

(or if you're just fed up with SC2, play BW! Nowhere to go but up for every player in existence except one!)

Like others have said, find a new hobby to fill the void. I'm kind of in the same boat, wanting to scale the amount of time I spend gaming down. My search for a new hobby began a few hours ago; I ordered myself a cheap starter guitar. I'm looking forward to tackling something completely new, being that I have no experience with guitar playing.

STOKED.

trying to do the same man.. It sucks, cause on one hand, NOW is the time to try and "go pro" in the esports/SC world.. but at the same time, unless your goal in life is to be a progamer, its not worth really spending the time outside of "having fun"

I much rather be a better musician than a SC2 gamer.. so I want to quit completely and focus solely on music, but I find myself watching every SC2 event lately (and theres a shitload), and end up wanting to game after watching the events (naturally).. and its just so hard to quit.

I can say though, I successfully quit for 2 monthsback in November, doing exactly what the others said.. Uninstall SC2, and remove all your bookmark links of TL/every gaming website. That way, it gives you the chance to at least check up in the world of SC2 once a week or so, but you wont be clicking it every day like 15 times because its in your bookmarks. The only issue, it gives the window to get addicted again easily like what happened to me over Xmas =[

The other method, which I kind of did lately, is just totally burn yourself out on the game. I played like 400 ladder games in the past 3 weeks, and watched every major event.. And I fell short of GM, I was so close and even have wins vs many people in GM recently (since reset) but guess Im in that top 300-400 range.. Im just not feeling the love of the game as I used to really.. My goal right now, is to quit and come back when the expansions are out, maybe i'll find the love of RTS's again at that time.. Right now, I have major FPS lust though, much funner to me at the moment.

Only other way I see out, is to sell your SC2 cdkey, figure out a way to IPblock TL/etc, and hope your willpower is good.

I quit SC a loooooong time ago and never even bought SC2, but i still watch TSL and browse TL cause there are still some cool folks and threads on here. It's hard to completely quit something, you have to do it in moderation and then eventually it'll just happen. I browse TL when I'm bored just like any other site on the Internet so it's just another site for me to kill time with just like Facebook, MySpace, etc etc.

i remember why i quit scbw in the first place, i just wanted to be really good at it, but then one day i just that i didn't see the point spending hours trying to get good at a game? being a progamer really wasn't realistic, but if you really wanted to be one, don't give up your dream! I realized I i could've spent that time doing something more productive. scbw was really making me starting to drift away from society.

I thought to myself what I enjoyed doing before I got in the scbw scene and that was basketball. I started getting into basketball alot, alot more. I had something to talk to my friends about, beside starcraft all the time. started going to the gym, and even though I won't be a pro basketball player, ill still be in great physical health from playing basketball all the time. can't say the same for sc.

you gotta have a moment and think about life in general, sorry if this sounds depressing, because for me it really got me depressed. its funny because the thing that first motivated me to quit was another guy posting on tl why he quit scbw way back in the in like 2005 or something. life is too short to be playing a video game 8 hours a day. at least switch videogames or something lol.

then sc2 came out....and i still play a little bit here and there, but not as much as my scbw days.
Please excuse my English as I am an American on the internet.

Ask for a ban from one of the moderators. Something like a six month ban or something would be long enough for you to shake checking the site out of your rhythm.

Find another hobby, focus on your irl friends and your studies/job. You will quickly notice how easy it is to not find time to play starcraft.

BUT you should never quit TL.

i can never really comprehend people with that low of will power that they have to physically smash the disk or ask to get banned from an internet forum. teamliquid fucking rules hard, but its not crack cocaine dude. just stop coming to the website. maybe you don't really want to quit.

It's easy. Just never visit TL again and uninstall sc2 and never play it again...

Dumb question imo. Or if you want to be reasonable you could just find new activities to fill your time and simply spend less time on TL and SC2.

Not playing a game and quitting from the community altogether are very different things.

if you feel playing the game is a waste of time, then just don't. No ones gonna bother you with that choice. Don't quit the community though. It's like deciding not to play football and stop seeing friends as a result :D

I haven't played BW in ages, rarely watch streams of BW/SC2 events, and have never played SC2. Yet I find myself browsing the forums here on a limited basis; I think you'll find that's more satisfying than cutting yourself off completely.
