The reason is pretty simple - I learned a few tricks from watching Liquid'Tyler play, and I'm trying to mimic Adelscott in the way he heavily relies on gateway units.
The tricks I learned from Liquid'Tyler aren't anything "high-level." I watched his fingers on the keyboard to see that he mostly stays on the lower number keys (like 5 and below). I never saw him reach past that in a couple games I watched on his stream. I'm not saying he never uses 6 or above. I may have missed him do it, or it is likely just based on that game. However, it gave me some confidence to try and focus on just using 5 and below for my hotkeys (for now). It helped me a lot, as I wasn't looking down at the keyboard at all.
Also, I saw how Liquid'Tyler grouped his nexuses and gateways, and I realized that I wasn't doing that. I guess I was too focused on "pylons and probes," and so I kind of hit myself in the head and went, "Duh. How'd you forget that?!"
Adelscott gave me a lot of confidence to stick to gateway units (at least at first) instead of trying to climb the tech structure too quickly. Therefore, I was producing a lot more units and was ready to take down the rushing AI. I'm going to start looking for his replays and trying to mimic him hardcore.
So, yeah, none of these things are "high-level," but neither am I (yet...).
This weekend, I'm out of town again...ugh...
But...I may be getting a puppy! So, even though I won't be able to practice SC2, it still may be a pretty good weekend.
