and I got a rather expected turnabout:

Accepted:
Rutgers
TCNJ
Boston University

Wait-list:
George Washington University (meh)

Rejected:
Columbia
Princeton ( =[ )

But yeah, I just heard back from the ivy leagues today. As much as I was ready to face rejection from those last 2 colleges, it still stung a bit (as rejection normally would). It kind of makes me regret what I've done over the last 3 and half years...especially with a lot of my classmates getting into significantly better schools (meh...inferiority complex)
But enough wallowing; I got accepted to decent schools! So yeah, I think I may just go to Rutgers; it's the cheapest option for me, and i even got the honors program, so I think I'll jsut try my hardest there and get to a decent grad school or something.

But yeah...those rejections came at an inconvenient time (other misc. factors are also giving me stress ^^. Sorry for the ramblings, I just needed to get this off my chest. ^^;

I'm assuming you live in NJ? Rutgers is probably a good choice then, since it is pretty cheap.

It also has a CBW/CSL(SC2) team :D

When I got my college acceptance letters back, I was in a similar situation, where I didn't get into some of the schools I wanted and some of my friends got into better schools. I had a similar feeling of regret for not fixing some issues with my transcript. Two years later though, everything has worked out great and I'm really happy I went to the school I ended up at.

You'll be fine -- after a year of college people tend to wonder how they could have considered going anywhere else, and all the high school angst seems a bit silly in retrospect.

totally agree with triangle, just keep your head up I got rejected from everything but my "safety" school, but now I love it here. If anyone offered me a spot at one of the ivies right now I would probably decline.

As a very interested outside observer (HS junior), after talking to my friends and reading people's opinions about different schools, I think that you really get out of college what you put in. If you try hard, just about every university has good offerings and since Rutgers is so big, you'll have fun no matter what.

Edit: Also, a lot of my friends that have graduated in the past few years have loved BU, so you may want to check that out again.

Was there some motive behind this that I completely missed?

@OP
I'm going through a somewhat similar situation right now as well. The hardest part for me is ignoring the urge of questioning why some peers were accepted.

What does it matter what University is the cheapest? If you don't think you can afford a University its because you haven't made the decision that you will be able to afford it. How much money you make is a decision, its typically not something that falls out of the sky or you're born with.

This is almost completely wrong and/or someone's been reading too much Rhonda Byrne.

The cost of university is a huge factor, especially since in the sciences, name value doesn't really matter.

You think being saddled with ~150k in student debt after graduating in what is likely going to be a bad economy is trivial?

Goes double for engineering. College name is almost nothing compared to what you actually did in college (co-op, internships, racing teams, design projects, etc.) if you want to go into engineering after college.

Cost does matter. For example...

I have a friend who has relatively poor parents, his dad lost a job right as the recession hit. He got into Harvard. Like a boss. Instead he's going to Creighton for Physics/Econ on a full scholarship, has a 4.0, and is looking very good for law school admissions. Sure Harvard is the better school, but now law school costs will be negligible for him.

Cost pretty much determined which college I went to (UCLA WHY YOU SO EXPENSIVE?).
Worst part was that my parents didn't tell me until after the acceptance letters came back (seriously, UC system has application fees, if we're poor tell me goddammit). The actual situation was that my dad was laid off around my junior year, and since he had no degree, was taking classes at George Mason to earn a bachelor's. Also, older sister had been going to college for two years at this point.

I have no idea what you mean by your post, unless you are saying that anyone can get a college degree if they work hard enough, which isn't really relevant to the OP.

Even though you are disappointed about the fact you didn't get accepted to some of those colleges, that list surely doesn't look bad. Also, It's *MUCH* better than the average American getting into those. Kinda like being mid-masters in SC2 :D, sure, some of people may be better, but your still much more successful than the majority.

Congratulations on getting in! The good news for you is that most (all?) of those places have a CSL team. :p
