People Mentioned and their Characters: (I'm just going to leave this up here from now on for reference) + Show Spoiler +Ted - halfling ranger Zen - half-elf bard Walten - Elven Wizard Damien - Half-orc Barbarian Ren - dwarf cleric David - ...hasn't made his character yet because he hasn't shown up for either session. :/
The title is relevant for two reasons.
1: Ren brought cake to the D&D session! And being the barbarians we are (no pun intended), we ate it with our bare fingers. First time I'd had cake as finger food...ever...xD
2: This second session was really great compared to the first. There were some slowing down during the combat when I had to look up stuff, but other than that it really went quite smoothly I thought. They need to learn to stop interrupting me when I'm trying to describe the town they just walked into though. It's really, really annoying. >.>;
Sorry I didn't post anything on Tues/Wednesday, I had tests and AP review is starting up and blegh. Nothing really big happened though; we got to Barrow's Edge in The Scourge of the Howling Horde, which is only two encounters, but when I thought about it, it seemed like it wasn't really that since we had to slow down here and there and get things straight.
David is being lame and having to go to crew practice even though I've heard from other members that if you signed up early enough you can get out of fridays... oh well. I'll probably end up kicking him out soon if he doesn't show up next time. Ren was having some family issues, and she didn't have her character sheet filled out, but we still managed to start at about 5:20, which I think spending an hour and twenty minutes on a character sheet for a spellcaster isn't that bad since she hadn't had any experience. She was great at casting heal, that's for sure...
That leads me to a question for you TL D&D players - how long did it take you to fill out your first character sheet? Curious minds want to know :3
There's only one last thing I want to touch on in this blog, and that's how incredible nerds are. I took everyone out to IHOP, and for the entire hour and thirty minutes that we were out of the house, the conversation was STILL focused on D&D! I know a lot of people who would shy away from talking publicly about something that they knew wasn't generally accepted by society, but that was not the case. We were in there for at least an hour, and the conversation didn't really move away much from D&D or something related like DDO or LOTR. I must also admit, when the waitress came by and asked us if we were ready to take our orders, the very first thing that came to mind was "roll for initiative for order!" I didn't say it, but it was a close one xD It's just amazing how completely consuming these things can be.
That's all that's on my mind tonight, gonna retire early and get started tomorrow morning on calculus! Yay!

Haha, I actually used to play D&D v.3-3.5 It took me about an hour to make my first character. He was level 1 so there wasn't much to do, but I had to read all about skills and feats and plan shit out, so it was kind of tough. Since then, I realized I made a lot of mistakes (v.3 half-elf ranger lol), but it was still fun. I guess I'm kind of lame, but I always felt awkward role-playing in D&D, but I loved the strategy in planning characters and the tactical freedom of the battles. Pretty good times.
I've heard different things about v.4, what do you think of it?

Hey! I loved reading your previous blogs about D&D. It inspired me to start playing D&D with a bunch of friend too! Now we're all hyped up and fawning over how awesome D&D is (we play 4.0)
My first character sheet took me around 1.5 hours, mainly because I was looking through the manual and I had no clue what was what. Right now I don't even have my character personality traits either :X.

I'm an optimization type of guy, so my first character took FOREVER. Heck, character creation usually takes like 1-2 hours for my group despite the fact that most of us have builds ready made before we even start.

My first character probly took about an hour and a half as well. I can't guarantee that it was anywhere near complete though
Sounds like you all are having an awesome time with D&D! The best part for me is the social aspect, just hanging out with friends and playing an awesome game. My D&D buddies many a time went to Sherry's after a session. We would always order a marionberry pie, no plates. Then we'd just sit at a round table and crowd around and recount our most recent adventure, while enjoying our delicious treat. Those are some of my absolute best high school memories.

Man, rangers were so legit in 3.0! They got nerfed horribly in 3.5 though. They're not that big on roleplaying yet, and honestly I don't see it as that big of a part of our D&D experience at this point. Their characters are just silent or something.
4e is kind of odd from what I've heard and read; no skill points, and this whole power thing just doesn't really click with me that well :/ Overall it just seemed like they were making it easier, which never goes over well with me xD

That's awesome! The members of my group wouldn't stop talking about it for at least two weeks haha. I got skype calls from Ted every single day for at least a week and a half talking about D&D. It really is incredible, and I'm glad I got you into it ^^
Personality traits are pretty big on how they do combat as well as what they do out of battle, I've realized. Our elf is extremely racist, so the only reason that he decided to even help the town was because he had witnessed one of the elf guards die to the hands of the goblins lol

I tried to get my friends to do that, and they were just like IDK LOL IMA BE A BARBARIAN WITH HIGH WIS BECAUSE I NEED SKILLZ. :/

Haha yeah, their characters had to be fleshed out more last night with a backstory about the party and themselves in general, but they probably averaged about an hour, two hours as well.
I can relate only after doing that once - I think that's the most fun I've had in months, just having a three hour D&D session and then going out to eat.
