Yes I am still platinum! Since the release of Starcraft 2 (I unfortunately did not participate in the beta) I've been playing on a alienware laptop... I DID NOT KNOW WHAT A BIG MISTAKE THIS WAS! Obviously, any time I would need to play on a keyboard, such as LAN tournaments, I will be S.O.L because the keys are completely different... I decided to buy a keyboard, long story short. I found a useful blog from tasteless and began making changes to my over sized controller...

Unfortunately my game suffered greatly because of the change, I was hitting wrong keys, my apm, which is low beyond standards, got lower, and my overall morale was just shot. I decided that while at this low period in my laddering, I am going to switch my hand positioning.. I originally had my fingers on the a,s,d keys with my ring, middle, and index fingers. I came to the conclusion that because my apm had never really increased over time and I truly have no idea what to do, sad LOL. Since I was twelve years old I have been taking typing classes in school. They spend a long time drilling into my brain the home row keys so I decided that that is where I am going to position my hands. I know where what is if my hand, at minimum, is hovering over asdf. You need to add:

to the beginning of your post and then it'll show the masters icon (I just copy-pasted the code)

You should also just post the URL of the daily and then it'll work fine.

first: what race do you usually play?

for toss, i would say place your middle finger on "E" and hotkey your nexus to 4. These are the two keys you are going to be using a lot during the game, and i would suggest keeping them together!

i am most comfortable with toss, but for the other races try and keep your homerow just under the 1-5 hot-keys as you are going tp be using them a lot!

on the topic of macroing, i try to NEVER give up macro for micro. if there is a huge battle away from my base, what micro i can do is usually small. so i do it, and go back and macro like a fiend. use all your production key hotkeys though. if you're good, you will only have to go back to make supply depots/CC for expos.

if you feel like you can't a-move and win, it sounds are not setting up the battle correctly. you have bad concave/not enough stuff/got surprised. this is true almost always for me.

i still always bind my army to one key. unless it messes with my spells, or if i have air units/drop, i hotkey it to 2. since i tend to keep my micro lower, i don't need the hotkeys, and tend to rely on mouse control. i would say keep hotkeying. more hotkeys are not a bad thing ever.

Okay, I loved that obscure fact. Totally caught off guard.

On a side note, I'm struggling with the one hotkey syndrome and have been doing my best to remedy it. But I always seem to forget a part of my army at some point. Drives me insane. So i can empathize with your problem there.

I was disappointed by the obscure fact: been doing that for ages already.

Also, if you're trying to practice stuff, it's generally a better idea to make a game with just yourself so you can focus and practice stuff. It's generally not a good idea to try something for the first time against actual players.

I play Protoss, and my middle finger lies on 'E'. index on 'F', ring on 'A', pinky on CTRL and thumb on space. But, my hand dances all over the place. I got a new keyboard in november, and being the retard i am, got black on black. It looks cool, but sucks to learn with. I am finally getting back to where i was before i changed keyboards.
