EPTLike I said in my last post I've been facing better and better opponents. When I was rank 30-ish gold I would play high rank platinum and diamond, but I was (quite brutally) told how the system works.
Today I finally reached my goal.
First I played a ZvZ where I got 5 roach rushed and lost, which made me kinda pissed. I know, I know, but I fucking hate cheese.
So that was a bummer.
Then I played a ZvP against a high ranking protoss and won, and I got the little box-of-joy which told me I had ranked platinum. Suddenly I wasen't pissed, I was giddy as all hell :D
I tried to find a clip where Cartman says "Isn't this awesome, you guys?" but couldn't find it. Sadface. You can picture it in your heads instead. Go on!
So now I am no longer a 30ish gold, I'm now a proud rank 14 platinum. I'm gonna spend my entire friday evening (Life? Pff!) laddering, I want to get a feel of the platinum league. Wish me luck, you guys! :D
Also- I've been practicing keeping an eye on the minimap, and it really helps, especially in ZvT when they try to drop you. Played a super-awesome game against a 20ish diamond (full of drops), so now I really, really wanna get into diamond and have more of that awesome-ness! :D
My current thoughts are about the mutalisk. I've always disliked mutas, I think they are great for harass but can't do much in fights and therefore doesn't really help defending (I usually aim for mass expanding and defending, and then outmacroing), but now that my macro is better I can actually get 10-15 mutas and still have enough stuff to defend, which is awesome.
I've been using mutas more and more, both in ZvT and ZvP. I still don't like them all that much in ZvZ, since then it becomes a muta-micro fight which I find really boring. Usually I go roach/hydra/infestor into ultralisks (if he is getting roaches and mutas) or hydra/baneling with a few roaches (if he is going ling/muta).
ZvZ is probably my worst match-up at the moment. Almost every game I play is either 6pool, some variant on 6pool or a roach rush, so I havent got much practice actually playing ZvZ, which is a pain in the ass, because I hate cheese. The good news is I've learned how to defend a sixpool.
What I'm trying to work on at the moment is to be more agressive. I kind of have this fear of "oh shit if I attack with 15 roaches and lose them, he has units and I dont!". What I've realized is; if I lose all my units, he will probably lose his. So we're even. But it's really hard to make myself attack with 10 roaches.. So thats my main point of "work". Becoming aggressive without dying.
Now I just something good to end on. How about a song?
I like different kinds of music, today I think I'll choose some sweet blues. It's a band from my own country, too!
