Between 1989 and 1990, Nintendo had two different Super Mario Bros. cartoons made, as part of the same multimedia push that had seen the Kyoto-based company think a futuristic Mario movie was a good idea. The first of those was called "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!". If you've ever seen a Mario cartoon show, that's probably the one you saw.
When that series came to an end in 1990, however, a second, short-lived show was commissioned, called "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3". And it's in an episode of that series, called "Reptiles in the Rose Garden", that things get political.
Such patriotic citizens they are I remember waking up as a kid just to watch the Mario cartoons. Never knew of such an episode, but overall it makes me miss the nineties even more so.

Jesus christ, had those on video tapes (in swedish). But still it was the most awesome thing to play some mario bros 3 and then watch the tv show with friends. My god, bring back the bros
I found it funny that a cartoon charecter saw through a crappy disguise instantly. Maybe Ive just seen too much pokemon, but it seems like that never happens
funny that you bring this show up actually. I remember talking with my friends about the super show that would come on before/after some Zelda show. And we were recalling things differently. I remember this super mario bros 3 show, and I only realized recently that there were 2 different shows when I found a DVD that my nephew (4) has some how with about 6 episodes of super mario bros 3. It's a fucking awesome show, I watched them all with him. And after that he made me replay it. And then he made me replay it again. 3 fucking times he watched those 6 episodes until he went to sleep.
My favorite part about the show is how they slip in all the mario bros sound effects and music into the episodes and it doesn't even feel forced, it always fits lol.
