Fast forward to 2010, the year that Starcraft 2 was finally released. My friend and I are joking around and talking about gaming. She told me that she already pre-ordered her copy of Starcraft 2 and that I should as well. Well, shortly after it was released, and my facebook wall exploded with posts about people who had just purchased the game, I decided to take the plunge. I thought that buying it and playing would help me pass the time as I worked a mindless part-time job as a waitress while trying to figure out what to do with my life. Well, turns out, my friend gave her copy to her younger brother to play, saying it was almost time for the semester to start and she didn't want to get sucked into the game.
So here I was with my new copy of the starcraft 2 game, and no idea about anything involved with playing. But as time passed on and I started learning the basics, playing with friends from school (who jokingly told me that playing SC was in my blood, even as an adopted Korean - ha!), trying to get my boyfriend to play too, watching replay vids and casts online, and getting tips from people who were better than myself, somewhere along the line, I got hooked. I was just the typical player who would go on for fun, play some matches, play some custom games, feel frustrated when I lost, and great when I finally won. I can't say that I ever was very good at the game, or that I really improved that much in the time that I've spent, but I've had a ton of fun.
All in all, it's been great, even as a bronze/silver level player who will probably never make it up the the un-attainable diamond league. Things are starting to come together in my life now with work and future educational opportunities, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to play anymore. But I'm glad that I was able to have the starcraft experience. I'm glad I was able to become part of communities like r/starcraft and teamliquid.net. I'm glad I've made friends on the game that I may never know or meet outside the game. I don't regret the hours (days?) spent on my whopping 1000+ games. And I hope that everyone else can find the enjoyment in the game that I've found myself
