...to New Zealand! In early January, I will depart the dreary cold that is Canada in winter and head for the warmer climates of the Southern hemisphere (much like a migratory animal).
What I ask of the knowledgeable inhabitants of TL is stuff to do/places to go! Preferably from people who a) live there or b) have been there. I will be staying/living in Wellington for at least 2-3 months, but possibly longer should something make me stay (work or girl lol )
Thank you in advance!

Forget the North Island. Go visit South Island! The glaciers and mountains and lakes and coasts are amazing. Wellington is quite nice though, and it's very easy to get to South Island from there...you can just take the ferry across.
Some ideas for south island: glaciers, west coast, milford sound, queenstown (heeeeaps of stuff to do there), nelson and marlborough sounds (which is where I am right now, it's awesome!), mt cook national park. For north island you could do the typical touristy things like rotorua and Tongariro national park.

Hope you enjoy your stay in our beautiful country!
