I've been lurking the site, searching, and reading, all the threads I could find on this subject, and I wanted to get more opinions on the matter. If this isn't something the blog was intended for, please, by all means, flame away/send me to disneyland. I'm looking for suggestions on what mouse, keyboard, and headset, I should get myself.

I'm specifically looking for;

1: Quality. By quality, I mean "This product has been proven to last for at least 12 months or more". This is mostly for the case of headsets, as I've always been good with my mice/keyboards. For those, functionality is mostly considered, but I'm definately not going to buy something that everyone has break in 5 months, (unless it's stupidly cheap).

2: Comfort. I spend quite a bit of time on my computer. I'd love a comfortable setup. I hold my mouse using mostly my palm.

3: Pricing. I don't mind paying 80+ for a keyboard/mouse/headset, but I'm not going to pay 80 bucks for something that glows, but has no functional superiourity over a 10$ equivalent. I will, however, make exceptions for things that will last a long time.

I play mostly SC2 nowadays, so I'm not so sure about just picking up a good old ballmouse/intellimouse, as they seem to move too slowly across my screen, and become imprecise with increased sensitivity options.

I'm actively searching for an IBM model M at my local thrift stores/pawn shops ($20 for a keyboard that lasts as many years as it costs dollars? No brainer, there), but I doubt I will find one. I've used a logitech g15 before, and didn't mind that at all. The added functions through macro buttons/media controls were pretty handy, and the sucker lasted two years, but unless the new hotkey functions coming in 1.2 supports the g-keys, I'd rather just buy something else. Keep in mind, I'm probably not quick enough for Nkey rollover to be an issue, though a mechnical keyboard that costs less than 120 dollars would be fine by me.

A headset can be earbuds too, as long as they last longer than one year, and are comfortable. I have a gigantic head (No joke, most headsets are painful to wear because they're constricting), so something that's adjustable would be nice.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions/flaming/trolling. I appreciate it!

I really don't know why people prefer gigantic mice with their unnecessary macro keys. I get that they might sometimes be useful, but small mice mean that you almost never have to move your arm. Just get a generic optical No troll

For a keyboard, I would suggest either the 6gv2(black switches), razer blackwidow(blue switches) both cheap, good, mechanical keyboards, or, if you're feeling good about getting a top keyboard, Das keyboard or a filco.
For a mouse it all depends on how you feel with the mouse and how you hold it and how big your hands are.
Small hand good choices : steelseries xai, razer abyssus
bigger hand choices: razer deathadder, logitech mx518
and lastly, anything from sennheiser would probably be good, but i dont have too much info on that

If you really want a model M, and have some money to spare, and still can't find one from a car boot sale, then Unicomp still makes brand new model M keyboards from the very same factory in Lexington, Kentucky where IBM made them, for $70 plus shipping. There are some differences (colour may be different, you can get variants with a USB port rather than PS/2, you can have windows keys, there may be a little skimping on the build quality), but these are essentially the same model Ms your grandpa used to hack with. The 101-key ps/2 Customizer is the absolute closest you'll get to the original, if you're a purist. I have a 104-key Customizer and a Spacesaver (same keyboard, slightly more compact shell) and I'm happy with both. If you go this route, just make sure you get the 'Buckling Spring' variant - they also make rubber dome keyboards in the same shell, calling it 'Enhanced Quiet Touch' or something.

I'm only leery of using my old mouse because it seems to be pretty imprecise. I can work around it, probably, and I'm nowhere near a professional level, so I have other things to improve besides my mouse precision, so I'm mostly just looking for something comfortable and long lasting. I don't agree with a small mouse, but that might just be me. My hand tends to hurt from using a small mouse, after a while. I'm also not looking for a mouse with fifty buttons, or whatever.

Do you suggest the 6gv2 or blackwidow from personal experience? How durable are they? I've read good things about the 6gv2, but steelseries' site says they're out of stock for the moment.

I've read good things about the quality of the mx518, so that's something that I'm considering.

And as for senheisser, I've been considering something, but I'm at a loss. There's so many headsets, and without trying them on, or getting a reccomendation from someone who owns one, it's hard to tell wether I'll like them or not.

I have a rather large head as well. I find most headsets dont sit comfortably, or nicely around my ears. For years I suffered. Then, I discovered the G35. Comfortable, adjustable. Ear parts swivel. Great mic. USB. Everything I wanted.

Then last week, being the careless idiot I am, I dropped them on the side of my desk, and broke an ear thingy off. Over a year, and if I didn't treat them like crap, they would last longer.

as for other things, I'm currently using a g15 as my keyboard, and a G9x as my mouse. I love the thing, but it gets dirty after prolonged use, and that annoys me.

Next time, I'll be using a Razer Mamba. I've read that it doesnt have that problem, and its a palm fit, which is how I hold it as well.

I am very happy with my current headphones. It's Steelseries 4H, about 40 euros so not expensive and durable and comfortable. For long gaming sessions, comfort is really important. It has those big ear things which go over your ear shell instead of pressed against your earshell. So the whole thing rests on your tough skull instead of your weak earshellbones. I took once took it back and forth to school everyday for 3 months, folding and unfolding the wires each time, you know it. Still works like a charm. Oh, it also has a pull-out-microphone which just looks superawesome but is also pretty functional.

As for mice, I still find those generic HP mice with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel the best gaming mice. The less features it has, the lighter it is. The lighter it is, the faster you are. Force equals mass times acceleration.

I never found a real good keyboard actually.

The 4H isn't in stock on the NA website. Do you figure the 3H is as durable? Or should I wait on the 4H?
