If moderators think this should be closed, that's fine. I know the forum has been inundated with this kind of thread.

After my laptop broke (if you want to help, here's the thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=173491), I started looking for a replacement. Today, I read through every laptop thread on this site. None of them exactly answer my question, and most links to computer models are now dead. Here's what I want:

1) A laptop that can play 1v1 SC2 games at 45+ fps during a 200/200 battle on the lowest settings. I do not care about 2v2 on up.

2) A price of 500-700.

3) A year warranty.

The computer I'm thinking of is this:

ASUS UL30A-A2 Thin and Light 13-3-Inch Silver Laptop

1.3GHz Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo Processor
4GB of DDR3 RAM, 2 slots, 4GB Max
500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
13.3" HD LED LCD Display, Intel GMA 4500MHD, 0.3M Webcam, Wi-Fi 802.11 bgn
Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System (64 bit), *12 Hours of Battery Life

Here is a copy paste of the min and rec reqts for sc2.

PC Minimum System Requirements*:

Windows® XP/Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 (Updated with the latest Service Packs) with DirectX® 9.0c
2.6 GHz Pentium® IV or equivalent AMD Athlon® processor
128 MB PCIe NVIDIA® GeForce® 6600 GT or ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card or better
12 GB available HD space
1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista®/Windows® 7 users)
DVD-ROM drive
Broadband Internet connection
1024X720 minimum display resolution

PC Recommended Specifications:

Windows Vista®/Windows® 7
Dual Core 2.4Ghz Processor
2 GB RAM
512 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon® HD 3870 or better
*Note: Due to potential programming changes, the Minimum System Requirements for this game may change over time.

Would this computer work for me? The GHZ and graphic card worry me (I don't understand computers)? Is there a better buy?

looking up some lappys

These should run SC2 on low pretty well

This one seems beastly for the price but its out of stock D:

That laptop will not even come close to cutting it. In fact, not only will it not handle maxfood battles, it probably can't even run SC2. I'll check around for a better deal later, but the one I've been recommending lately is the Dell Vostro 3400 (choose the most expensive customization, since it's the only one with a discrete graphics card), and it's $635 before tax I think

EDIT: If you're going to get any of the laptops the above poster linked, I'd suggest the last one. Those AMD triple-core processors are not even close to the level of core i's.

EDIT: More info on the Vostro. It's 635 before tax, but the above poster's last link has a much better graphics card.

@below: wtf u kidding me? there are many laptops that can run SC2 on low for under 700 :3

1.3 ghz? :S yea this laptop will not be what your looking for. unfortunately laptops are more expensive than pc's so for 500-700 your not gonna be able to run sc2 very well if at all.

Sorry but it's not going to be very good for SCII at all. The onboard graphics alone kill any chance of playing above the lowest resolution on low settings.
This is well below quality expected of a post in any forum. -Empyrean

make sure you upgrade to an Intel I3 (2.4 GHZ) or better and a 512MB graphics card.

I guarantee you that you'll be able to run SC2 pretty well on this laptop. It'll end up costing 560$ +tax

I have the same laptop with 2.4GHz and no graphics card except for intel integrated one and I can still play 4v4s on mid/low settings. With the 512MB graphics card, you'll have no problem at all.

Here are the stats for 560$

(Its 25$ more because I added a webcam) I recommend you upgrade the processor, its only 25$ more but the processor doesn't make that big of a difference. You'll also need a laptop mouse to play sc2 so you can probably find on for 20$

I play exclusively on a laptop, so I'd think I have an idea.

I use an ASUS M70 17inch 1920X1200 display.

Runs SC2 just fine on settings above low, but low is where its at anywhere as you already know. The best thing about this computer though is its size. There's enough room between the keyboard and the end of the laptop for a mouse, so you can play pretty much anywhere. The keyboard is quite nice and the game isn't fucking tiny.

ASUS also has the best warranty deal on the internet as far as I know. I've sent my computer in 3 times so far (had it for well over a year, nearly two now.) The first time I straight up broke the screen and had to pay for the new screen, but they literally took all the stuff outa my old laptop case, and gave me a whole new computer with all my information in it. The other two times it's been sent in were for random internal damages, but this time since it was just due to wear they covered everything and each time gave me a brand new laptop for free.

I fucking love ASUS, and suggest you strongly look at their products.

Something tells me you didn't read the OP.

OP: I'd hold off on buying a new machine for about another month, Intel's "Sandy Bridge" is being released early January. Even if it's not worth the price tag, everything else will go down in price.

This looks beyond perfect. From my computer illiterate persepctive, it's exactly what I'm looking for.

I'd love it if someone else who knew what they were talking about would chime and just say "yeah, this would play sc2 at 45+ on the lowest setting during big battles."

By the way, I really appreciate the responses in this thread. It's a completely greedy blog by me, with the soul purpose of me getting something from you guys. Hopefully I can do something for you guys/the community later :/ I'm pretty lame but let's hope.

The only issues some people have with this laptop is probably the unique touchpad. I for one LOVE the touchpad because it has a really nice feel to it (but some people don't think this way) and my fingers don't get irradiated when I use it. In addition, I mostly use a laptop mouse for SC2 so the touchpad doesn't really matter. You'll easily get used to the touchpad even if you have a hard time with it in the beginning.

Otherwise, this laptop is really fast and I love it so much.

It may be hard to believe but I thats the way it is. I don't know what to say but it runs perfectly with the integrated graphics. Some laptops lag because they have other limiting factors other than the integrated graphics such as a lower DDR memory. All I know is I can play SC2 without a problem.

(Its 25$ more because I added a webcam) I recommend you upgrade the processor, its only 25$ more but the processor doesn't make that big of a difference. You'll also need a laptop mouse to play sc2 so you can probably find on for 20$

If the price does come out to that with all the specs, that would indeed be very good buy
:D

Definitely can play SC2 on lowest settings smoothly
Notebookcheck says the Radeon 5470 gets 100+ fps on lowest setting on laptop resolution
so you should be good~

I kind of want that laptop now haha

edit: wait your using the intel graphics one and you have no problems?
I find this hard to believe

Are you saying the graphics card in the model he suggested (512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5470 Graphics [HDMI, VGA] edit) won't cut it? Or that the computer he actually uses won't work? I really want this laptop :/

Dang, that 560-dollar notebook looks amazing...

I played in beta with an old Dell inspiron 1720; 1.67 intel dual core, 2 MB DDR2 RAM, some nvidia 512 MB video card... :/ It ran pretty smoothly on high i think o__o

To be fair, my games never really lasted over 15-20 minutes though.

make sure you upgrade to an Intel I3 (2.4 GHZ) or better and a 512MB graphics card.

I guarantee you that you'll be able to run SC2 pretty well on this laptop. It'll end up costing 560$ +tax

I have the same laptop with 2.4GHz and no graphics card except for intel integrated one and I can still play 4v4s on mid/low settings. With the 512MB graphics card, you'll have no problem at all.

he said:

this is refering to my the intel integrated graphics card. The 512 ATI mobility Radeon is not a intel graphics card and its actually one of the better performing graphics card in the market right now. However, even with the intel integrated graphic card, I haven't faced any issues.

In addition, he also said:

the Radeon 5470 gets 100+ fps on lowest setting on laptop resolution
so you should be good~

this is actually praising the graphics card. It'll probably even handle every setting on medium without a problem. Maybe with a couple on high. (Heck, my settings are texture on ultra and everything else on low but I have to change everything back to low if I want to play 4v4 without lag.)

(sorry for thread jacking xD) Well kind of on topic, would my computer be able to run sc2?

AMD Athlon(tm) X2 250 Processor (2CPUs), ~3.0GHz
5120 MB Ram
ATI Radeion HD 4200

Now, what about black ops? here are the system requirements for black ops:
http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=703&game=Call of Duty 7

sorry, but I'm a computer newbie and I assume some TL computer gosus will be able to answer my questions in seconds!

Check it out computer noobies! Go to SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS LAB and it will tell you how bad your terrible pcs will run any game with a nice graphical bar, as well as tell you what part of your computer is holding you back (I'm guessing cpu and intel integrated, always). Game list is updated on a regular basis.
How's the weather down there?
