The closest decent mountain is in midstate NY, and that's 3-4 hours driving. The best local mountains are in Vermont/Quebec, and are 8-10 hours respectively. The reason I stopped snowboarding is pretty much because these shits are so far away and I no longer get free accomodations -_-; Too costly of a habit for me right now. I really do want to go this winter though for the first time in 3 years, would be awesome n_n; Saving up that money! Yeah, Mountain Creek is more of an ice rink than a mountain. Stratton and Killington are where I try to go when I can't take it there anymore, Windham too. My old boards:

![[image loading]](http://burton.emptybottleworks.com/2007/Elite/2007_Burton_Elite_158.jpg) I also had an 07 Burton Custom which I don't have a picture of because it snapped
And I'm probably going to get a new board soon, but I haven't really looked at all at this years stuff yet.

BroOd so where do you live right now? Wtf? You in my area?
Also, if you are in fact on the east coast, make a point of going to Le Massif in Quebec, best place on the east hands down. Lake Placid is obviously good too, but Massif has VT and NY beat.

Yeah sort of, I'm in North Jersey (Morristown). I've never been to Le Massif but I was at Mont Tremblant and it was amazing, one of the best weeks ever.

Hey, im coming in to enemy territory here, im a skiier. I was just reading this thread and just reading/talking about riding makes me happy so i had to post! A few things:
That 07 burton custom is sweet.
Its funny that out of all the ski resorts in the world you guys are talking about Mont Tremblant. I spent the whole of last winter there november - march. Had such an awesome time!
@OP - assuming its the same for snowboarders starting freestyle - just take things easy and feel it out. Dont try to progress too fast and make sure you straight air jumps a bunch of times before trying to throw stuff down. Most importantly is dont change your mind on what you're doing mid in run! I did and bailed the landing and a seemingly standard crash did something to my knee that still isnt fixed 8 months later. Maybe i just suck at jumps though!

I always get tired in the early afternoon and waste my all-day lift tickets >__> ...so I've been doing squats/deadlifts for the upcoming season :3

EDIT: Also I used to have those exact step-ins on my custom haha they are actually pretty good as far as customs go but I definitely had 2-3 times where my foot popped out.

The only reason we see you guys as enemies is both snowboarders and skiiers do annoying shit on the slopes, but we obviously are going to hate the other party more haha. Skiiers - fuck you guys with your wide arching S turns that make it hard to pass your dumb asses, your little kids that are in front of you tied to your waist as if 4 year olds need to know how to ski, your ability to cut the shit out of people. Fuck you! Snowboarders - thanks for sitting in a 6-man line perpendicular to the slope, effectively blocking half the trail and most of you know that you can't do any fucking tricks anyways, fuck you for your pseudo-rebellious nature when really you are only there because your parents were rich enough to pay for snowboarding trips when you were younger. Fuck you too!

While i agree with all of that, especially the stuff about the 4 year old kids because i had to teach a bunch of them. They can barely stand up and you want them to ski?
I pretty much hate anyone on the mountain who is a jobber and gets in my way using up MY precious mountain space!

Teaching young kids is always boring, but when they are closer to like 12/13 they become more manageable. It's weird, at that age kids are usually SUPER bratty but on the mountain I think they finally grow up to get some sense of focus and appreciation for you. The best of course is after your shift, snowboarding with the other instructors n_n; So fun making patterns and carving with your body almost touching the mountain, doing circles up the mountain xD

Yeah we definitely should some time. As for the step-ins, they're not all that bad I guess. I was using freestyles until one of my boots got messed up, and since I had my old step-in boots & bindings I started using them again. The biggest pain is the ice build up later in the day after stepping in and out off the lifts. I used to carry a tiny bottle of anti-freeze in my pocket to get it off.

Ugh yea that is terrible, especially in jersey where the snow melts with the smallest provocation. I just used to stomp in the binding repeatedly until I broke the ice. I guess this is why I said they were decent step-ins because they never broke despite my stomp. Did fall down a few times when I stomped too hard and lost my balance lol.
Actually, we should go get drinks at the lodge while snowboarding n_n
