I had sinus surgery a year ago, and I'm starting to have problems.
Backstory- I collapsed the sinuses under my left eye, and had to have them rebuilt. The process that they used was to make a cut in my gum line to avoid unnecessary visible scars. The result of this is a vein of scar tissue that runs beneath the skin along the side of my nose and is invisible to somebody looking at it, but extremely raw to the touch (under the skin) and hurts like a bitch on seemingly random days. Beyond how they accessed the area needed to be repaired though, I have no idea what actually happened. The process reshaped my eye, so I can no longer wear contacts and the cheek bone is changed in shape, though not so obvious to an unaware person.
Problem- I caught a cold a couple weeks ago, and it doesn't want to go away. Its just congestion, which is normal for me and is a hereditary issue. But as of last night blood started appearing in the mucus and has been persisting into the morning. I no longer have insurance and have financial difficulty, to explain why I'm asking here. We heat with a wood stove though, meaning the air is unusually dry.
In the end, I don't know if its just a shitty surgery to have thats going to leave me with problems for the rest of my life, or if this is unusual and I should go into the doctors, spending a shit ton of money that I don't have to be told "no, its nothing. now get the fuck out of my office."

This sounds serious and you should see a doctor. I'm guessing the longer you let it go the more expensive it will be to fix. Is there a free clinic (or something similar) near where you live?

I feel your pain, I have a chronic sinusitis, but it's not as serious as you. The problem is when it's coupled to my allergy to house dust mites, I start finding blood when I blow my nose or cough.
The most efficient way I found to deal with it is having inhalations of water + appropriate essentials oils. It's quite cheap (~12$ a bottle and only a few drops are needed).

You should go get checked out. From what you said it sounds like a walking pneumonia or bronchitis and probably need antibiotics. Do you have any fever, pain in your face, or swelling around your eye?

edit: when i had pneumonia, my chest had tiny purple dots, this was from coughing so damn much i believe. But I was young, they did leave after i took antibiotics for a few days, so it was one sign to watch out for.

If you look at the teamliquid manpower thread you can look for somebody who actually knows what they are talking about and PM them. I think Physician on TL is actually an internist so he may be able to give some advice.

@radar, there is definite pain in my face, helps with over the counter anti-inflammatory medication. It follows the scar tissue (so the teeth next to the incision, and into the cheek). Today it hasn't been so bad, but with heightened blood flow its more painful. No fever. Only swelling where the inflammation is.

better to find a real doctor (manpower thread) or just go to the billion online doctor help sites available
of course they won't be able to give you a real diagnosis unless you're in person

That's so true, I can major law or mechanical engineering and still premed, you just have to take the requisite courses, none of which are actual medical courses, just lots of bio, chem, and physics.
edit: although some pre-meds do have experience in hospitals to boost their resume since med school (in US at least) is hard to get into. (my premed friend made me do this edit lol)

OK . I'm a doctor and it sounds like you had a Caldwell-Luc done. And if you end up with chronic sinusitis after that which is pretty much what this sound like you need to see your surgeon ASAP. This could just be anterior epistaxis which is you just blowing your nose to hard but I would never like to reassure you on the basis of your insufficient information. Get well soon!

Thanks Firereaver, that actually really helps. I talked with somebody else thats gone through a similar experience and am setting up a humidifier in my room tonight. I'll see what I can do about talking to the surgeon that performed the surgery.
