Okay, so I debated whether or not I should actually post this here since I've seen quite a few of these threads... but I can't really find info that's too good anywhere. I figured I'd just post it in a blog, where after [hopefully] a few helpful answers it can be buried forever, and not add any crap to the forums themselves ;P
In short, I need a new mouse, if that isn't already obvious. I first went to the search bar and browsed through most of those threads, and then using the info I got there, went to the rest of the internets [ie. google]. I'm not a fan of that one logitech mouse that everyone seems to love so much - MX518 - and deathadder seemed to be a close second favorite.
After some research I decided that I love this mouse. The DeathAdder looks cool, seems to have everything I need and more [it has more than three buttons!!!!!!], and although this doesn't factor into my descision at all, I noticed quite a few of the contenders @ MLG Dallas had one.
HOWEVER! The mouse seems really big. I know that theres a shitload of you TLers out here who have the deathadder. I use the fingertip grip, and I don't want to end up switching to a less comfortable grip because of a new mouse. Do any of you use the deathadder and use fingertip grip ? How is it?
Google gives me very conflicting results. Some say its impossible, others say you need big hands, others say the fingertip grip is perfect for the deathadder. I wish I could just hold one to find out for myself >_>
The random ruler that happens to be sitting here tells me that the length from the bottom of my palm to the tip of my middle finger is 21cm. If that helps. :D
If the deathadder isn't a good choice, what would be better? I sort of have my eyes set on a razer mouse. I'm not sure what it is about them, but I want one. x_x My requirements are pretty simple: - Fingertip grip. - Doesn't cost a billion dollars. - Doesn't have a billion buttons. - This one isn't exactly a requirement, but I... I want a razer mouse. :D
So... yeah. gogo replies!

I use my DeathAdder with a fingertip grip very comfortably, and I don't think my hands are very big. I measured, and the length from the bottom of my palm to the tip of my middle finger is a little under 19cm. Considering that, if hand size was the only major factor you'd be fine, but I can't really say if that's the case. If you can't find a store that lets you handle one, you might be able to find one with a generous return policy? I definitely <3 my DeathAdder, but I know that mouse ergonomics can be quite personal and I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.
I can't say anything about other mice, as this is the only high-end mouse I've owned. Good luck!

I have a Razer Krait. It's cheap, precise, and has Teflon feet like most gaming mice. I don't think Deathadder requires big hands. It's 5.04" / 12.8 cm long, exactly as long as my Krait and it's perfect for my small hands (my hands are like ~19cm, smaller than yours).

lol, are you a giant? i'm about 6 5" and my hand only measures 19cm (maybe i have small hands). I was gonna get the mx518, but literally NO stores carried it. However, I'm extremely happy with my deathadder. looks badass, feels very smooth, accurate, the mouse clicks are sooo easy. i have some sort of hybrid grip, and it seems to work well for me. GET IT! (i liked the cost effectiveness too :D)

I got the Deathadder Razer mouse mate, and it's awesome. Possibly even perfect.

Razer Abyssus seems to meet all of your standards. It is a 3 button mouse, fingertip grip, can get it for around $30. It is the mouse i have been using for a while now, and i love it. None of the stupid gimmicky features you don't need.

See, these types of replies are a lot of what I've been reading. I was really looking forward to the deathadder, but then I remembered that some mice are specifically built for a specific type of grip. So I checked that out, and I was saddened to see so many people saying it's hard to use with the fingertip grip. :x
Also, I completley forgot about the possibillity of going to like Best Buy/Futureshop to check one out, haha. I for some resaon just assumed they're only available onilne. I should check that out.
Thanks to all of you for the replies! Will probably end up getting a deathadder, hehe.

I used a Krait for years until it died, then shifted to a Deathadder, fingertip for both. The difference in size took a bit of getting used to but now I don't notice it. Both are great mice.

If by "fingertip grip" you mean like... + Show Spoiler + style of grip then that's the way I use my DeathAdder and I love it. I've had it for close to.. maybe a year and a half and I've had no problems what-so-ever and it still works like a charm.
Definitely recommended!
(I definitely have big hands though - bottom to top is about 19~ cm and I'm 6'4) edit: o__o Some say 19 cm is big, some say small. Take it for what you want lmao

i'm so sad razer doesn't sell the salmosa anymore

The mamba is a good choice, i dont use it but my friend does and he loves it. I use the Razor Orachi for my gaming laptop because im usually on a small mouse pad and not always on a desk, so the wireless factor is nice. I cant say it didnt take forever to get used to it, because it did. It took me about 2-3 months to get a good feel for it but once i did, i love it. Its on the smaller end tho, but i am a big guy, 6'4.

I like the Abyssus a lot as well and would recommend that, I do us a palm grip mostly though. It seems to fit your requirements perfectly. The other option is buying a Salmosa from somewhere.
|
I use a death adder.. and i switched from the copper head (which is a decent amount smaller) I thought that the deathadder would be too big.. turns out I feel like its a perfect fit. I do not use a fingertip grip however when I play but I could easily play like that and I have fairly small hands.
I would say it is one of the best mice for its price. Also note that the cord is sheathed so it doesn't tangle or kink .. this is a HUGE plus in my book.

What?! I saw it for sale for $26SGD or $20 USD yesterday. The one with Nada on front right? I was thinking about picking it up but the razer mouse I use right now (impretor or something) is good for me (i use fingertip too) and I don't really need another one. if it's discontinued i'll pick it up though

I advise you the SteelSeries KINZU, For me its the best mouse. I had Razer before as Coppehead etc.. but I really prefer the SteelSeries Kinzu.
|
Honestly I'd go with that, its quite a good deal for 30 and free shipping.

Take it for what you want lmao Hmm, I think that's considered claw grip. Honestly, I mostly just used razer's guide when defining the grip types: Palm: http://www2.razerzone.com/MouseGuide/html/palmgrip.php Pic: + Show Spoiler + Claw: http://www2.razerzone.com/MouseGuide/html/clawgrip.php Pic: + Show Spoiler + Fingertip: http://www2.razerzone.com/MouseGuide/html/fingertipgrip.php Pic: + Show Spoiler +
The big [only?] difference between claw and fingertip is that the pit of your palm does not touch the back of the mouse. My wrist wrests on the table, and there is enough room under my hand to slide the mouse downards into it, closer to the pit of my palm. If that makes sense. :/
The abyssus looks alright, too. It's shorter than my current mouse, but wider. I've had the Logitech LX3 for the past two years: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/149 Got it for a dollar. :D Never really had any problems with it. Recently it's middlemouse button crapped out and I decided that, since it's really the biggest connection between me and my computer, I'd buy myself a nice new one.
I checked around on e-bay and found that I could get the DeathAdder for about 50 bucks CDN, shipped from China somewhere [with a free pair of extra teflon skates! :O]. Pretty acceptable price, I think. I'm wondering if any of the stores around here have any of the mice in stock, and more importantly, if they'll let me handle them to get a good feel for what I like.
The Lachesis actually looks pretty comfortable, but I din'td look into it becasue it's friggen 80 bucks.

Hmmm...
Fingertip grip: Check Doesn't cost a billion dollars: Check Doesn't have a billion buttons: Check
