NOTE:Mind my grammar and spelling.
I think I may of screwed something up today. I had a nasty infection and I used Combofix 2 times, but it wouldn't eliminate the redirecting malware so I was downloading nod32, when I restarted by accident, THEN THIS..
No windows boot. PC boots fine. I get the bios brief, then the firmware brief(compaq sign), but no windows. Just BlacK screen all over.
I have a windows XP cd in the drive as we speak and access to the recovery console, although I have very little knowledge of the commands
THINGS I've tried LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION: FAILED DISABLE AUTOMATIC RESTART: FAILED
I didn't have system restore, so I can't do that
Does anyone have any advice?

in the recovery console, use the repair option. it worked for me...
also, maybe you can put this in tech support forum?

I'll try the repair function the recovery console. If that does not work. I'm trying #10 on this list.

nope. check it yourself. there's a bunch of other non-SC2 related problems on there...

nah tech support is for anything pc related... and ur likely to get much better help posting in there
in terms of ur pc, u might just have to format and reinstall windows. if there's stuff on the HDD you need plug it into another computer as a slave drive (obv) and copy the things you want off of it
|
I'm such an idiot. I'm gonna try installing xp into the same folder, if that doesn't work. I'll go to the tech support. I'd appreciate if someone closed this.

Don't know how to slave a drive. However, I was thinking about this. If I have to I google it and do it. Thanks for the advice.

You can also download a linux live cd (IE Ubuntu), boot ubuntu from the CD and extract all your important files/data from the hard drive and dump it into a external HD before you reformat windows.
|
it's really hard for me to help you out unless I know what the exact file you lost in the system32 folder.
I had the a similar problem before, after renaming a important .sys file (I couldn't access windows after that) i used the recovery console to rename that important sys file and it was all good afterward
|
Okay guys I tried #10 Perform an in-place upgrade, and it didn't work =/ I'd reformat, but my brother has some important photos on the hardrive. Anyone else have any suggestions?

seeing as how you posted in this thread; im assuming you have another computer and internet access.
depending on what operating system you have; go to the microsoft website.
download and burn/create the recovery discs specific to your O.S
insert them into your computer and when you go to the BIOS change your boot device from whatever it is in number 1 to make it boot from "DVD drive"
then from there, it should help install whatever u missed as the recovery discs are able to basically reinstall important functional files for windows.

I can't seem to find one on the Microsoft website, can someone link me?

which os are you using though
xp? vista? 7?
professional? home?
32 bit or 64 bit
|
XP 32 BIT. What's the difference between this disk and the recovery console?
|
use repair command if it's from a virus I'd use FIXMBR
For that I'd use command fixmbr then use fixboot right after.
If you can't remember the commands type Help that will bring up all the commands help command give you data on what the command does.

Repair INSTALL REPAIR INSTALL is your only and best option at this point. DON'T do recovery console. Let the XP cd search for previous versions of windows and once it finds it, you can do a repair install by pressing R or something. If it's succesful, nothing is deleted, nothing is changed, but your computer should have a clean OS.
