Hello TL.

My name is Björn, i live in Sweden, and i study to become some sort of 3D-artist. Right now im not at universitylevel so my skillz are limited. I'd just like to know if there is any 3D-artists/amateurs/whatever out ther on TL.net?

Now to show off some of my own very noobish stuff. This very evening i got inspired and made these steampunkish goggles.

Veeery WIP, but atleast i got the rough bits down. This is just a personal play-project to practice for future work to come.

Some renders from school-assignments:

Final Gathering with Area lights, this was only to test how to use objects to light up other objects. (if this makes no sense i'll explain more in dept :p) Models are just quickly thrown together.

A HDRI-picture of Newtons cradle. HDRI uses reflectivity to "color". A picture from somewhere-cathedral is used around the model to make the pretty reflections.

My most recent test-render of a current WIP-project. The assignment was to once again use objects to light up other objects but also to model a building from some type of arcitechture, this being the renaissance. (It's not the most up to date, nor the best picture so bare with me 'til i get it from another computer ;p)

PS. Please post ideas for steampunk/gothic stuff to model!

EDIT: Title might be a missleading, if a mod could switch it to "3D and other shenanigans" or something it'd be highly appriciated!

I went to school for 3d modeling/rendering/rigging/animation.
what program you use? I was trained with maya. seems to be the industry standard these days.

nice renders btw.. look like your on the right track.

I use Autodesk Maya 2010/2011 and i render with Mental Ray. Just discovered Sculptris, although nothing serious done there yet ;p

wow looks so cool, how do you get into 3d modeling?

I suggest do a steampunk stopwatch, or poketwatch

These are awesome. Just so you know though, you never really have to ask if anyone in TL is good at something. We're all good at something. :D

Well i picked a school that teaches it, had some friends that studied on higher levels so i catched intrest there. I'd suggest to take some classes as it helps ALOT to have someone irl to be able to ask questions to. But then again you can teach yourself alot from just google :p

Im thinking a pocketwatch and some sort of wierd ring when i finish with these goggles!
