My first blog was all about my first placement match. This will be about my second placement match! What can I say, I don't like playing a lot This game lasted 30 minutes, instead of the 10 minutes of the first one.
For anyone who read my first placement report (which by the way, makes you freaking awesome in my eyes and I love you) you'll notice quite a few mistakes and having a severely lacking build order. And for the 2 people who downloaded the replay of the first match, what is wrong with you!
Well, this time! I actually learnt a build order. A sexy little 3 rax build that I learnt from a Mr Trump. My stim was researched BEFORE 10 minutes this time
Hands shaking, heart beating, onto the match in question!
"Ding, ding, ding, LOADING"
Kanin as Terran vs a Silver league Protoss on the same map as the first one. Which I remembered this time, KULAS RAVINE!
Doing my build and the protoss has sneaked a pylon in. Did I spot it and take it down in time, or does it come back to bite me in the butt? We'll see
UH OH! What is the bunny doing? Kanin has only gone and started the attack with the pylon still in the base
And there it is. The warped into my base. That'll teach me to scout my base in future before moving out against Protoss! >_<
Whilst watching this replay, I remembered something. My buildings are a pain in the arse because of 1 little thing: THEY CAN LIFT. If I'd have just kept attacking and lifted my buildings, I would have won. But noooooo, I just had to move my army back didn't I >_<
And here I'm building back up again. I had twice as many units as the Protoss at this point, but the low hp on my units scared me so I wanted a medivac or two before moving out. Do you think that was a good move? Well, we'll soon see >_>
Oh bugger! Whilst wasting my time getting a medivac, what has the protoss done? He's only gone and got Colossi
ARGH! When I finally did attack, he had more Collosi! That'll teach you to wait before attacking!
So I do the same again, I have confidence that I could outproduce the Protoss so I decided to build up again. Good plan right?
Yes Kanin, it would have been a good plan but one slight flaw. You completely forgot that Protoss had invisible units!!!
"But Kanin, that's no problem at all" I hear you shout. "You can just scan them and take them out in 2 shots"
You are correct. But I'm incapable of hearing you at the moment
Someone forgot to fix their rally points
This is it! You have way more units than the Protoss, your macro is killing him.
But WAIT. what are those blue things in his army? "They're DTs Kanin, do a scan, win the fight, and steamroll into his base winning the game" says the spectators
"I'm sorry, what was that? I can't hear you" said the idiot blogger
I KILLED ALL HIS ARMY. THIS GAME IS MINE :D :D :D I'll walk in, destroy stuff and be declared the ultimate victor!
And here is the replay. I wonder if more than 2 masochists will download this one.
Always remember to hotkey one of your orbital command centers for times like this. DT's really don't like it when a terran player is quick with a scan. For they are far less effective.

I hotkey everything I just had no idea he had DTs, even when my army disappeared into thin air it didn't make me realise. Just inexperience I guess.

Thank you <3
Although, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be playing this game. I love Starcraft, but more of an observer rather than a player.

-1 for playing terran
But I wuv Terran, played them (read: lost nearly every game) as them in BW. I was thinking about maybe trying Protoss out for a little though. The micro required is a little off-putting though, I prefer macro.

It wasn't so bad. Just a huge lack of experience on my part. On BW you can hear the huge "SLICE" sounds, on SC2 I couldn't hear them at all.

Nice learning experience though.
In sc2 the DTS are slightly visible, which means you can see every single one of them technically, but cant shoot them without detection. Not sure what you mean by hard to know they were there lol.
Also the pylon part made me lol pretty hard. Warpgate upgrade doesnt come very early, so to have a pylon sitting in your base RIGHT BESIDE your barracks in completely plain view, and then your army right beside it, not killing it, just made me laugh for some reason.

In the screenshot at 26 minutes of the game I can see your hotkeys;
Army is hotkeyed to 1, a viking to 4, production buildings 5, starport 6.
I would highly recommend hotkeying your orbital commands to their own hotkey (maybe 3 for you) so when you get more experience and notice dt's there faster a scan is only a millisecond away!
edit: it looks like earlier you had orbital command hotkeyed to 4 but then that pesky viking took over 4... hmmmmm.....

Yeah I'm new to this thing
I can't really see the DTs though, especially not in a group of my marauders. My eyes are not the best. The pylon part was just plain silly though

Hmm, I didn't notice that. I always play with CC on 4 and production on 5/6/7 but I guess I must have pressed the wrong button later on. 3 is usually for my flying attack units. It wouldn't have changed things though, it was only when I watched the replay that I actually noticed he had DTs
