It's an article reporting Obama's speech. That's fine. The comments, however, make me want to violently vomit.

why not "lose faith in humanity" about stuff that you can personally change or handle? you seem to be taking other people's opinions about the way the country is ran way to personally. you don't think everyone is going to agree with your opinions 100% of the time do you? if they don't share your opinion, it makes them wrong?

The really funny thing that people fail to understand is that Obamas problem is that he is still far to corporate and not really liberal enough.
There is far more to being "progressive" than just handing out a bunch of money. He is still far to responsive to business interests and does nothing to protect our economy from being raped by the few in the private sector.

Because they're becoming not-so-anonymous real life comments. I'm sure eventually it will die out as idealogues and populists usually do, but for the time being it's disconcerting that flocks of people are being led by uneducated entertainers. It's equally troubling (arguably moreso) that the left has tried to play catchup in the game of folksie sayings and aw shucks attitudes. I was well aware that Obama was a pragmatic centrist when I worked for him, but the level of compromise that he and Congress are making right now is disillusioning to me. I never drank the Kool-aid, but now it tastes like hemlock.
They're too fearful of being seen as defiant liberals by the other 45% that they've disappointed the 53% that put them in power. It goes not just for Obama, but the weak Democrat congress as well. Perhaps my standards have been set too high by President Bartlett, but it's shameful to think that in my country, official's education has become a liability rather than an asset. People are so insecure that they've chosen their leaders to be people that are like them, rather than people that are better than them. We lower the level of public discourse rather than raise it, and both public and private political debate has been ground down into a series of catchphrases written by PR directors, rather than informed debate, discussion and reasoning set by policy experts.
It's a depressing time to be a political science or public policy person.
