Tonight has been a landmark in my life for two reasons. First and probably most important is that I’ve finally watched Naked Lunch. I had read the book before, and it really exposed the blood and guts of what writing can be. I learned so much. However, that charm only lasted as long as it took me to forget it. Now I’m on the next drug. I’m messing with something so close to the source that I might as well be the thing. I have watched Naked Lunch. This is my second attempt--my first was a failure. Truth is, I didn’t do it properly. The core is evasive, no doubt. It’s fitting considering its cute little deceptive ways. But I think I’ve got it now. Or rather I think I think I understand. Either way is fine with me.
If you want to be a writer and you haven’t seen Naked Lunch, do it please. It’s just one of those things that can totally shape your style for the rest of your life.
My second point is derived from the first… but now that you know that I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore. Perhaps I’ll just bring it out at another time when I’m floundering for something else to write about. Sorry.
If you haven’t seen the movie and want a smell of what it is like before you commit, watch this music video by the Klaxons. It is sort similar. Rumor has it that the song was inspired after the band all read the book. Hence the name of the song, “Atlantis to Interzone”.
Ps. Oh a major real life updates: I have an internship now writing for a magazine It’s a pretty sweet set-up, although it would be much sweeter if it paid me money, haha
