Major NH Deployment~ Largest deployment since WW2
CONCORD, N.H. -- Army officials said 750 soldiers from the New Hampshire Army National Guard will be heading to Kuwait as part of Operation New Dawn.
Maj. Gen. William N. Reddel III announced the deployment Thursday morning. It is the largest deployment of National Guard forces from New Hampshire since World War II.
Col. Peter L. Corey is the commander of the 197th Fires Brigade, which will be going to Kuwait primarily to help secure supply lines. Corey said their mission is that of a security force.
The unit has been preparing for the deployment for about 18 months. They will leave for Fort McCoy for further training on Sept. 11.
The 197th will be in theater from November until September 2011, officials said.

Isn't it fucked up that we send the national guard to other countries?
Doesn't it piss you off that you signed up for the national guard and get deployed to other countries?
I dunno, that'd piss me off.

a little nervous but ill be ok, i heard we'll be treated well and stuff and have quite a bit of downtime based on the job i was assigned. If the connection is strong enough ill most likely play some sc:bw or sc2 w/e the computer can run. ill be staying on top of the scene and starting up some tournaments as well but shhh thats a secret

I joined basically cuz my friend said "Hey join the army and i get money" but it wasn't all that. I made it the NG becuz of the college benefits and after i got back from my basic/ait I heard we would be deploying so i put off college until this deployment is over so i could get more benefits for college Its all for college really.

Yeah least your not going to Afghanistan or Iraq. Kuwait actually is pretty nice, nothing hectic really goes on down there other than the 140+ degree weather. The DFACS down there are pretty amazing. Your still going to be a year away from home, which is never easy.

Take care while you're there. I hope you grow from your experiences, whatever they may be. And I look forward to whatever you'll share with us.
