Hey guys,

I have $800 budget, I really really need a laptop upgrade as the current one I'm using is from 3.5 years ago with only 80G of harddrive space and below the minimum spec requirement for SC2 (it can still play it fine, just lags in huge battles and gets really hot!).

My requirements:
-Around my price range (nothing over 1k)
-Durable (I'm big on this one, I don't give a fuck about weights as long as it fits in my backpack, I'm good)
-Can play SC2 on medium setting
-Lots of USB ports (4x)
-Enough hardDrive space with 40G partitioned to Linux and the rest still spacey for Windows7/Games/Apps (I store all files on external, so I'll be fine).
-I DO NOT care about speaker quality. I have my own speakers and headphones.
-Again, i DO NOT care about battery life (I will have plugs in home or at lab)
-Again, i DO NOT care about weight (I can ride bus and/or bike)

Hmm I think that's all!
Just suggest something you've been using, or see someone use, and share a link to the laptop's specs and possibly reviews! I'll be very very grateful.

Thanks!!!

Life is run, it is dance, it is fast, passionate and BAM!, you dance and sing and booze while you can for now is the time and time is mine. Smile and laugh when still can for now is the time and soon you die!

I agree with TadH. the M11X is a hella good laptop and it's relatively cheap.but it has only 3 usb ports.

but if you really need 4 usb ports then may i suggest one of these

I have it, and it is amazing.

It does only have 3 USB ports, however one of them is a charged port, it also has HDMI, two audio jacks mic jack, firewire, 4 in 1 card reader, and a WWLAN also has a display port, so it's not really lacking.

I don't have a bias towards Acer, it's just I searched up all brands of laptops and they seemed to have the overall best bang for the buck gaming-wise.

Check out these graphics card benchmarks for laptops.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

The Asus G Series has a very good graphics card, but the processor is lacking a bit compared to the rest. It should be more than enough though.

17.3" screens? :D

They're all good laptops. If you think you can find the specs you like, make sure you like how the laptop functions, too. Keyboard, clicking mechanism, etc.

I got this one brand new from Best Buy for $999 back in May, and it runs SC2 great on medium, and can run it on high or ultra if you want. All 4 of the USB ports are in logical places and have nice little magnetic covers.

One issue I've had with it is that nowadays, it doesn't play nice with Steam. Ever since the latest Steam update, my computer has just frozen when I opened Steam. This might be rectified soon with a new update, but for now it is pretty annoying.

Overall, though, I'm very happy with it. gl hf, op.

if you havent ordered that one you just posted, i'd recommend a Lenovo y560. I got mine for around $849, not including a warranty or taxes. it comes with 4gb ram, intel i7, radeon hd5730m. i got around july 4th sale with student discount. idk how they are going around for now but they are a the best specs for that price. but that acer one is also solid and good for the price. my friend got this samsung computer with a i5/4gb ram/ and either nvidia 330m or radeon 5650 specs but was 14" display.

Bump.
Just want to say I am fairly satisfied with my current laptop.
With the exceptoin that the graphics card is NOT supported on Ubuntu, that means I actually cannot do transparent terminals (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((9

But aside from that windows 7 runs very smooth, and sc2 is a breeze.

This you can TELL is still a CHEAP laptop, i.e. more features than what it should've had for the price range. The details are really lacking.

It has USB ports on the right side of your laptop, right where you want to put your mouse. This gets in the way of gaming. I'm looping my mosue all the way to use the usb on the left side, and it felt awkward.

The cd tray feels super flimsy, it might break any time if not careful.

The 17 inch screen is nice and awesome, but it has trouble fitting in my backpac.

The ac-dc adapotor feels flimsy too, and the joints where the wire goes into the adaptor isn't designed well like the one from Dell, feels like it might break any time.

So Overall it is a great laptop spec wise, but it definitely is not as polished as a Dell at the same price range but lowe rspec.
