Hello!
For the past 2 weeks or so, I've been pondering what to do for my 10k post. Originally, I thought it would be nice to write an article, but there were some issues with that. For one, I'm no writer lol, it would take me all day to write one page worth of the stuff our actual writers do, and it probably wouldn't be half as good. Second of all, I don't even know what I actually know enough about to have the information to put anything together. I was thinking about seeing if I could do an OSL/MSL coverage report, but most of the time I just look at the calender to see who's playing; I don't even really know the format haha. Also I tend to be dyslexic, so I can imagine there being errors all over the place. So in the end, I figured that wouldn't be the best option. I ended up just deciding to make a blog post and cram it with random shit(but isn't that what they're for anyway?), so here goes.
*Just a heads up, this isn't nearly as entertaining, long, emotional, or amazing as Day[9]'s 100th daily. Just thought I'd let you all know.*
I've really enjoyed my time here at TL. Like, I've really enjoyed my time here at TL. In fact I'm disappointed I didn't come across it earlier. I guess I'll start at the beginning of my "journey".
Third grade(pretty sure), 1998, I get home from school to greet my older brother, who was in grade six at the time, jumping up and down like a maniac pleading to our parents about something. Well, curious being I am, I head over to find out what the fuss is about. He's all over my parents about this new video game, "StarCraft", that he found in the 'Scholastic book order', which all his friends are getting. He was assured he would be getting it as well. What I find weird is that stupid book order never seemed to have anything decent, but out of no where this gems pops up. I mean, sure, that could have just been a biased opinion because I was young and didn't like books(I guess I still don't...), but it was usually pretty lame. Here's where you're expecting me to say they said no, they didn't let him have it, but nah, fuck that, they really didn't give a shit. They gave him the check and he put in his order for it the next day. WOOT! So, anyway, like three weeks go by, and finally the order for our school ships in and is distributed amongst the kids. My brother comes home with the gift from god, we start installing on our dad's shitty Windows 95 256MB RAM computer instantly, and embrace the beauty. We were bored of C&C: RA by this time, and completely conformed to the StarCraft phat. I used to love red alert, don't get me wrong, but StarCraft was just the new 'thing'. To be honest, half the time I did just harvester rush the computer though; running dudes over and instantly killing them with harvesters made me giggle like a schoolgirl. Out of all things though, me and my brother most enjoyed making new maps to play on UMS, and taking turns playing each others. One would hide under the computer desk while they other spends an hour making a ridiculously impossible map to play for the other. We didn't have internet, so we just jacked around on the campaign and such. Pretty much pussied out and always had to play with cheats though. A year or two later and we finally get a second computer AND internet, and are able to play together! I tried as hard as I could, but I could never beat my older brother. He was probably one of, if not the top players in the school. Anyway, some years later and new games are coming out. Everyone seems to be bored with StarCraft, including my brother, and have moved on to the next new game. I decided to stick with SC, and kept on playing it every day after school. Hell, I think I even stayed home one Halloween to play it I was so dedicated. After months of practice I was never able to beat my brother, regardless of the fact that he hadn't played it in months. A few more years pass and nothing seems to change, I just didn't get it; why do I not seem to get better? Throughout middle school I stayed up till midnight(around 4-5am in the summer) playing StarCraft(I had BW the moment it came out btw) online under one of my multiple names: Hoodlum, D)d-Dark, Hooligan, and some others. In fact, I can't even remember my very first ID. After who knows how long, I went to log on the US.west and got denied with some error message. Weeks on end, I try messing with settings and reinstalling SC over and over and over again. I had, and still do, have my CD-key memorized from that CD case.As I looked around online I came to the conclusion that my CD-key was banned. I hadn't the slightest idea why. I emailed blizzard support and they told me I was accused of hacking or some sort. I tried to argue it wasn't me, but they didn't seem interested in helping me in the slightest. Some more weeks go by, and after saving up some money from my paper route I went out and bought another copy of SC, the battle chest. I reinstalled with my new CD-key and logged on, only to continue wasting away my life. My grades were horrible, I had no sleep, I was just ruining myself. At this point though, I was no longer striving to get better than my brother. I mostly played UMS(sunken def, golems, etc) and the occasional Fastest game. Come late middle school, early high school I become friends with this person and playing multiple fastest games with them. We add each other to our f lists, and as they tell me they have to go, they note that they are playing on their little brothers account, but I didn't make much of it. Another day passes, I hop online, see the same friend, and ask them to play. Initially they were creeped the fuck out because it turned out to be the little brother that logged on this time. I tried to explain that his older brother was on the night before and we played together and became friends, but he insisted he didn't have an older brother. At this point I'm looking awfully creepy, so I log out for the day. For the next couple weeks I was online I would chat with him(younger brother from there on, guess he changed his password haha), and this guy would turn out to be a very important friend. Within time he gives in and we start to play games and become friends. We added each other on MSN and he showed me BGH. Slowly, but surely, I transitioned over to BGH. More and more, my friend started to stop showing up on battle.net. I still talked with him heavily on MSN, and it turned out he turned in to a FPS player(mainly CS). As we became good buddies, I discovered one of his IRL friends was still in to SC and played BGH quite a bit, so I opted to join him for games. From him, I met two of his other friends, and the 4 of us became 4v4 BGH fanatics. 2008, Me and one of the 2 friends eventually started to get more competitive, and leaned towards some Python 1v1 games. We both played Protoss, and he was a fair amount better than me, so he often helped me out and showed me what to do.
What's this? My minerals only have 1500?? YOU MEAN THEY RUN OUT?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
On his lazy days, he would just link me to online guides. I got so interested in the discussion within these guides I made an account on the website to discuss further. Here was my first post on that website. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it was Teamliquid. I still remember, I was trying to help some guy who was probably better than me who posted a TvP replay on Longinus. He spawned as Terran on the right side of the map, and tried to do some FD push against a Protoss who spawned at the bottom location, which failed horribly. I posted a fair amount in that thread following mine presentation of my first post. There's a couple gems if you care to read the rest of that page and/or the couple following it. + Show Spoiler +
WTF FUDDX HERE SINCE 2002??
Boy that was a long paragraph, I don't even want to know how bad of a mark that would get me in an english class. I told you I ain't no writer!
Initially when I joined TL I was like D- iCCup still. I thought standard TvP play was 2fact(I mean I could have been more wrong, 2fact IS a build...), got flamed for it, and tried harder. I started reading more guides and getting involved in the community and watching live Korean SC.
WHAT THE FUCK, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THIS SHIT EXISTED UNTIL THAT MOMENT, FUCKING AWESOME!
I tried to study them and mimic them, but tended to fail horrible. Not that I wasn't improving, because I definitely was, but sometimes it didn't even feel like it. I had no idea how any of the Korean leagues worked, who the players were, who was on what team, which players were famous, etc. Nowadays, I see s2 enter the booth and shout "LOL S2 GONNA FAIL. SKT T1 ZERG CURSE", while my friends wouldn't be able to differentiate between go.go and Julyzerg. Pretty much I became more and more a common TLer, and learned a whole lot. I went from 70 APM python games to 200+ APM Polaris Rhapsody(for ex). Not only did TL become my source of SC related discussion and the sort, but it's definitely become a part of my life. Honestly, if TL were to suddenly become non-existent I would probably be depressed for very, very long time. I feel at home here. TL is home to many many people I consider friends. Overall, I've grown very attached to the community. I probably check TL at least 20+ times a day, even on the days where I have school 8am-3pm, then work 6-10pm. Just gotta give a shoutout to a whole list of TLers now, in no particular order for making my time here amazing:
All the moderators and staff, there isn't a single one(who was/is active after I registered) I'm not familiar with; you're all great people. Kau, disciple, l10f, ilovezil, boesthius, Day[9], Toxic, WeakTuna, konadora, MrHoon, Carnivorous Sheep, FuDDx, Pholon, flamewheel, Milkis, paper, RealPenguin, Issor, FragKrag, mOnion, BloodyC0bbler, deL, ColdLava, my mG. clanmates
This is just some random compilation off the top of my head. This probably isn't even half the people I would have here if I went through the list of every single ID! Don't be upset if you're not on here, I probably missed you D:
On a separate note, I broke my collar bone pretty badly about 2 weeks ago and had to go to the hospital. My bone was still in the skin, but it was sticking out in a really ugly way. You could say I had a freak swing set accident. My friend drives me to the hospital in his 40 year old hippie volkswagon van, but it doesn't have shocks so speeds bumps wtfimmensepainhurt. He gets lost at the hospital for 10 minutes driving around to find the ER. 2 hours later, I finally get x-rayed and checked out. The guy gives me pain killers and a sling and says I'll just have to wait for it to heal. Yesssssssssssss no work tomorrow! On the down side, I am nearly broke and need money, especially for school this fall, so I am shitting my pants trying to find out how I'm going to pay for this. Apparently it should fully heal in 5 weeks or so, leaving only a bump, but I'm upset at the shitty end to me summer. I have an option to get surgery to get metal plates put in to ensure it heals, but there's a 95% chance it should heal on it's own. The past 2 weeks I've been sitting at home reading doing jack all on the computer. Recently it's been getting better though, and I can use my left arm a bit, so I've been playing some SC2. Of course I wouldn't add this in randomly unless there was something else, so I bring you 2 games that I thought were pretty entertaining that I played today. In this first one I was 3v3ing with some friends today, and one of them randomly disconnected at the beginning of the game. I also went random and got Zerg, my worst race by quite a large margine, so I decided to play not so standard. Pretty entertaining 2v3! The second one is a regular TvP(T my main) that I thought was a pretty good diamond rank game that's pretty back and forth. The first 10 minutes or so are pretty slow, but a good example of us scouting and reading each other and reacting accordingly. We go in to the first battle pretty even, and that's when stuff starts to get more exciting.

I'm also really stoked for OSL tomorrow, since there hasn't been much pro scene BW lately and right now all I can do is sit at home on the computer. Looks like really promising games tomorrow and I'm thinking of doing a small live cast of it on my stream. Not going to be Day[9] shit of course, but hopefully someone finds it insightful or funny or something lol.
End 1:30am. Boy I type slow. g'night TL! <3
