So how did you get introduced to smoking, and why did you continue doing it to make it become a regular habit?

Edit: We stole smokes from my parents, and hid them in M&M's Minis containers. They'd smell like chocolate. It's a bonus.

I started smoking the occasional cigarette in college, because I made friends with people who smoke and I'd occasionally bum cigarettes when we were drinking at a party or something. After a few months of that, I felt guilty for bumming cigs, so I bought my own, and naturally I smoked more frequently because I had my own cigarettes right there in my pocket. I never smoked heavily, but midway my second year of college I regularly smoked around 3 cigarettes a day, often just as an excuse to go outside, or to keep myself warm while walking in the winter, or just something to do when I'm bored. I never felt that I NEEDED a cigarette, I would just sometimes want one like you might want a piece of candy. I gradually stopped being interested in smoking when I moved away from my friends who smoked all the time, and when I started drinking less. If I had stayed with them, though, I'd probably be a heavy smoker.

Well finally I decided that smoking or not I was going to take those breaks too. Took about two breaks before the boss came out when I was with a couple other employees and asked what I was doing. After explaining that I was taking a break I was informed that I couldn't take a break unless I was smoking. The solution seemed simple to me... start smoking. Was just a gradual increase of how much I smoked after that. From smoking 2 a day all the way up to a pack. I quit for two years and just started again. Trying to drop it as fast as I can again. Cigarette free is the way to be.

I kept smoking, even though it became less and less cool as the years passed. Two years ago I actually stopped smoking, didn't smoke for about 6 months, then started again. It's pretty stupid but meh, enjoy life to the fullest etc.

"I am indifferent to smoking and I feel no guilt for smoking, therefore I'm not addicted." "I only smoke when socializing and not when alone, therefore I'm not a real smoker." "I'm not a smoker, I quit after every cigarette and I am cigarette-free inbetween them." "I know someone that smokes more than me, therefore they're addicted and I'm not." "I don't wake up sweating and screaming in the middle of the night, therefore I'm not an addict." "I may be addicted to nicotine, but no one is perfect and at least I'm not an alcoholic, therefore no reason to change." ![]() Fast forward six years into the future. There was this small pc bang with just 4 computers in it close to my house and I'd hang there pretty often, even if I wasn't going to play with the other people that frequented it, I'd just sit around and watch them play. Now, there's the fact that most of them (read: all) were smokers, and then there's the fact that the pc bang was rather small so the owner didn't permit smoking inside. Those two facts led to droves of people often going outside for a smoke break and being a non-smoker during those times felt quite awkward, so I picked it up. There were such smoker circles in school too, but you weren't exactly forced to go outside of the school during recess as there were plenty of people to socialise with that stayed inside. I only started joining these circles after I took up smoking, but it opened a lot of new social interaction, so it wasn't all that bad. What was bad was the "smoke every 40 minutes" habit that we all developed through the years. Man, that was almost as hard to shake off as smoking itself. And then, of course, I started going to clubs, house parties, all that jazz. Mixing drinks and cigarettes didn't do anything to force me out of the habit. (I'd like to open a bracket here and say that to this day I must have a cigarette when I'm drinking. I really wish I didn't, because it leaves horrible aftertaste on the next morning, but hey, what can I do now?) As a sidenote sharing ciggies with people that had ran out at the club could potentially land you a free drink, depending on how drunk they were. So, in conclusion, peer pressure and the social aspect of it played a pretty major role of picking the habit up and keeping doing it.

I smoke occasionally now, though usually only when I drink. If I drink heavily that night I can take out like 10 cigarettes. I don't smoke more than a cigarette on a regular day though, usually none. I'm not addicted because I can go without for weeks and if I smoke a lot one day I don't want to have any the day after. I seem to prefer sniffing tobacco sometimes over a cigarette if I want to stay up longer in the night(seems to have a better kick).

Busy all the time, like crazy busy, and I worked my ass off. Well finally I decided that smoking or not I was going to take those breaks too. Took about two breaks before the boss came out when I was with a couple other employees and asked what I was doing. Cigarette free is the way to be. This story is probably more common than you think. I've heard it from several smokers I know and felt the unfairness of those policies myself when working at Panago delivering Pizzas. I think I was 1 of 2 guys that didn't smoke.

and now im back to smoking whenever i want to.. so since about march from this year ive been buying packs when i wanted and smoked sometimes a bit and sometimes alot, i used to play rugby and i didnt smoke that much so no body ever really saw me as a smoker or an addicted smoker. that kind of a smoker that smokes 2 packs a day or 3 packs a week i had once in a long while 10 ciggarets on a saturday night yeah asking for ciggarets all night really dumb. I really dont think as me as a smoker i smoke when i want to really and i have the will power to leave it for a year.. im not so certain if im able to do it for all my life but its like I smoke when I want to not when my body feels like it, usually when im drunk or bored as hell. Today i bought a pack and I smoked about 3 or 4 ciggarets and im thinking of smoking one tommorow and throwing them away. I dont really like to smell like cigarettes and the smell is horrible for your furniture, your home and it really sticks on you. I dont know I really feel like im not addicted at all and i can control the amount I smoke but i really dont feel the physical need to quit cause i still get a little dizzy by smoking only one every now and then. I have felt sometimes the real need but it was way back before the bet. I feel that if you want to stop smoking you should not be around people that smoke. if i didnt have friends that smoked i would have never even tried it. But hey im hedonistic and i dont give much of a fuck about anything so a few ciggs wont kill me right away. after 6 months of not even smoking a small puff you forget about the flavor of it and what it does to your body.. I dont have suggestions for heavy smokers but you non regular smokers that want to quit just stop fucking around and stop its will power dont be pussys you can do it say no and dont buy any fucking pack. man that was long..
