I'm a bronze player pretty new to SC2, have about 30 games into it at the moment. My placement matches I went 1-4 and got placed into bronze because every person I faced proxied or rushed me early game and I had no idea how to stop it.
So now here I am majority of my opponents have been protoss in 1v1, NEVER see any zerg, few terrans here and there. Getting my ass handed to me from mass DT or VR (majority VR)
And no, i'm not QQing but losing like this for literally about 10 games straight made me wanna get better so bad and find a good counter for it or like, a way to rush them before they rush me, faster than DT's or VR's.
So pretty much everyone in lower ranks rushs/cheeses etc. And it kind of sucks because I don't see how you learn anything besides countering it. No big micro battles, no macro wars. Good ways to have your hotkeys for battles, different things.
Anyways, started using warp prism early game, just about every game cause of it, they're 95% of the time gonna cheese or rush me, mass DT or VR every single game so I figure lets try this.
Not sure of the build order cause I've only done it about 4 times and my build is slightly off every game but it's worked 100% against all this same ol' bs. (They never check their blind spots)
Here's the replay from one of the games kinda showing how I do it (DT):

I cant find my replay from the VR bullcrap, but I'm sure I'll get another game next time I play and I'll upload.
I know I'm not that good but I have no fear in learning, risking and trying new things, only way to get better right?
Any comments or tips if anyone has any would be much appreciated. Sorry for the long long rant-ish post and most good players probably know this but for being a noob this has me pretty stoked.

Zealot/Stalker + observers >>> mass DT Stalkers >>> VR's
I don't see how you can lose to DT's and VR's as Protoss, just macro better.

I'm not sure if other people will agree with me or not, but I had no idea what VR meant until I was done reading the whole blog and then it occurred to me. I guess that means I either don't get void ray cheesed that much or deal with it well :D

Well try to go 2-3 gate robo vs P, thats a pretty safe build, then you can scout him pretty easily. It's not hard to prepare from that point.
|
In PvP, I always go 2 gate robo and get obs first. If they send void rays, I already have ample stalkers to deal with it, and if they send DTs, I got an obs. Either way, after I hold it off, I just sweep their base since they have little to defend with. No sort of cheese can get through 2 gate robo, and no greedy plays like 1 gate tech or fast expand can either.

For me it seems like the exact opposite. I always seem to face some type of aggressive 4 gate build, while rarely going up against tech. Just try to keep up your scouting to figure out what your opponent is going for. Like the previous posters said, stalkers (especially with blink) crush void rays and dts can be stopped by an obs right at your choke. Good luck!

If they are bronze level players they aren't vioid ray rushing. Void ray rushers are at least gold level and can be easily defeted with proper scouting and macro that isn't terrible. If you have since gotten out of bronze level, and they are actually good players, then just go 2 gate into robo for the observer to scout them out.

At this point with PvP in diamond level I would love to play against all DT rushes and Voidrays.
PvP at the high levels is plain dumb. You will get rushed in some way shape or form but rarely by DT's or VR's. It's 2 gate proxy, 2 Gate in base rushes, or 4 Warpgate.
I gate robo is coming back the more and more popular but it's a shaky counter as best as you really cant afford time wise to go observer first.
Now on your league you say DT's and VR's are strong. Just like people said above go 2 gate obs. It's solid against any real early aggression and you will have the observer out long before eith of those rushes hit.

Basically...
2 gate proxy or 4 gate > DT rush or Void ray rush
Either outcheese your opponent with much faster cheese (it takes a long time to get enough VRs and get DT tech), or learn to scout and recognize not if there's a proxy stargate or DT structures but by scouting the lack of enough structures or the lack of fighting units. (1 or 2 gate only, few pylons, few fighting units).

If you scout its easy to prepare for no worries mate just learn to scout it.

Instead of looking for a counter-rush to beat the inevitable cheese that you know is coming, just mass stalkers and observers...
Opening 2 gate is safe, and lets you put out some pressure. Get your core down fast, start pumping stalkers, and go straight to robo > obs.
No more losses to dumb bonze toss ever again.
