Looked around and there isn't really a thread like this so here it goes:Try to keep the nostalgia to a minimum guys!
What does everyone think of the new banner? Better? Worse? Same? My opinion: Pros of the old banner: - Nostalgic? - HORSES! - Light, whimsical tone Cons of old banner: - Looks kinda gay - The font sucks - Blurry
Pros of the new banner: - Looks more awesome - Sleek and professional - The horse logo is pretty cool and could easily become an identifiable logo for TL - Darker blue, again more professional - THEY STILL KEPT THE HORSES Cons of the new banner: - Dropdown meanu looked kinda better before.
Curious to hear your thoughts

The new design is clearly better... but I have some gripes:
-- mouse-over menus are annoying (and cover the news header) -- the (old) white text over the banner should be incorporated into the layout somehow -- the font needs some work (spacing between letters, 'm' is huge in 'team' )

I actually love the new font. So much cleaner and professional looking.
There aren't many websites I've seen that hasn't lost half its users from a bad site overhaul. Whatever they did, they had the right mindset, don't try to do too much, make sure every change is actually an improvement on the original, don't make changes that are not an improvement to the site.
The PR was excellent too, hardcore fans are conservative, TL knew that and made a post telling them that nothing has changed, and indeed it is still the same great site, with the same great feel. Its very easy to bungle a site overhaul, but TL executed this very well, and made it not look like one.
I kinda wish Blizzard had this same approach with SC2 *jokingly.
It's more professional imo. And TL having a professional team competing at the highest level I think it was well worth a change looking good in and out the game!
The pro's under the new banner doesn't have "HORSES" (like the pros under the old banner) because the horses are still there in the bg so technically it was just a small "upgrade" without changing the identity of TL
I prefer the old one but as soon as I saw they were changing it I expected so much worse than this. I'm happy with it. It looks great (should have had faith in TL...).
I didn't even notice the horsies in the background! Forgive me, for I have but barely awoke. The new banner has all of my love, all of my love, all of my love to it. Cause I get a little bit lonely, sometimes, without you babe (new banner).
Banner is really cool, but the horses in the background.. man... might as well put dragons and knights in armor. I thought we were changing the banner, not half-assing it. You kept the same thing, and put modern block letters on top.
The horse thing is lame, but the horse symbol is fucking badass. That's why they put a symbol there, looks cool and symbolizes power/cunning. Why do we need faded, blue unicorns in the back, super gay imo, and lazy. If you want a new banner, get one, but don't just alter it.
You know I wrote a long over analyzing post about the banner design...and then by the time I finished I realized I seemed crazy reading it back to myself. So that aside, in my opinion the line and bottom text could use some centering to the text above and the right side of the horse logo could be larger (which I think is more anatomically correct anyway?). Overall though I like it, as long as I can see the old horses I'm good.

Even discounting the history of the horses on TL, I think it adds cool texture/depth to the banner.
It's alright. I like the new sleek layout while preserving the old style; however, the banner seems a bit...lackluster imo. So...prefer old banner, but I like the new design. At least you can see the remnants in the background :D
The banner wasn't the only thing that changed. The whole look of the website has changed slightly as well. I just want to thank the teamliquid staff for doing a great job and for keeping in mind the various views of its users. We all know how much it sucks to have Blizzard screwing us up at times and surely learn from those experiences!
The new banner feels more like an eSport/starcraft site. It's cleancut with and the font/logo/solid colors. It's very efficient and to the point, Name-Logo-Content(SC Progaming, Community, Team) - what you'd expect from a professional site for news and information.
The old one is more artistic and homely. Its less focused. It was a bit warmer and welcoming imo, so that is a bit of a shift. Also the font was a bit weird with the randomly missing letter outlines hehe.
I liked it, but the new one is probably more suitable to the direction of TL in 2010. Nice touch keeping the horses in there.
