As far as the OP goes, there is shit entertainment everywhere. Everyone always assumes the grass is greener because all they hear about from other cultures is the stuff that's good enough to make its way onto their radar. For example lets say I finish watching "Spaced" and say holy crap UK TV must be way ahead of us! It's rare to see such a well written show on American television! Then you go through their lineup and its full of crap like "Demons." Same for some guy you get into "The Wire" or "Arrested Development", and he looks up some of the most popular shows in the US and is met by "Two and a Half Men" and "CSI." The point is that the good stuff is pretty rare in general. Although I will second Riptide and say there have been a pretty good string of comedy shows on BBC in recent years. so I'd check those out. "Spaced" in particular, especially if you're into Edgar Wrights style. Also Justin Bieber is Canadian. I swear if you guys subject us to another crappy pop culture phenomenon we're going to take another hockey team.

There's tons of quality shows/movies out there. That said, I absolutely agree and encourage seeing a wider range of entertainment. I think you'll find every thing has its strong and weak points, and there's going to be cliched, annoying or overdone themes everywhere. However, the good stuff you find will make it all worth it !

It was its excellence that made me realize that everything else is shit. It was a true scales falling from the eyes moment. EDIT: LOL Bieber is Canadian? Damn that sucks. I have much love for Canada (Sarah McLachlan, Heather Nova <3)... sad to see your great country polluted with this nonsense

I really loved it and am looking forward to the next season. Especially the swimmingpool scene was pure genius.
