First time blogging here, and if you look at my post count it's damn near to the first time I've been active on the site. I joined TL in 2007, but spent most of my years in high school around 2000-2003 playing Brood War and mapping UMS. If you've ever played Worms, Squad Support, or Chain of Command, you've played one of my maps.

I didn't start following competitive SC until late 2007 when Savior was still big and Jaedong was barely starting to break through. I had tried on and off since then to start playing on iccup and learn competitive 1v1, but I never had the dedication to get past D+.

Now since SC2's beta launch, the fire's back. I played as much of the beta as I could and got to diamond in two different resets. Now post retail I goofed up my placements and ended up in gold, but I'm up to platinum in EVERY solo/team league (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4). 1v1 diamond shouldn't be far off, I just have to put time into it and play a few.

I'm really looking forward to playing MLG. I whined a LOT about the sudden format change with inviting diamonds/big names, but honestly I should have expected it. I'll actually be housing a couple players/spectators and while at this point I've accepted that I have little chance of going far, I can't deny that this is a great opportunity to show that I'm not the average bnetter that does nothing but rushes at sub-100apm. I can play SC2 and I look forward to losing against far better players than myself on the off chance that I manage to come out ahead with a win against someone.

I'm really just nervous, I think. It's been a long time since I played any kind of game in front of a crowd. I used to play the arcade game "Pump it Up", sort of a harder Korean version of DDR, at a competitive level back around 2004-2008 and still got nervous even then, when all I had to focus on were arrows and we were still running through qualifiers. I'm pretty sure my nerves are going to get the best of me during that first game in the ro64 of MLG no matter what.

gl hf @ Raleigh.

Try to get in with the mentality that you are there to learn and have some fun. If you go in thinking you need to prove yourself or that you should perform good, etc. It will add up stress. Just go and ejoy your time, MLG events are always a blast.

It's 100% sure you won't win anyways, some pretty big names will be attending. Just play the best you can and you'll see how you stack-up agains't them. Try to learn from the experience.

I think that $60 is worth a day of meeting new people and having fun.

I just had my first tournament playing any game, yesterday. Starcraft is an easy one to play in front of people, because once you start really having to focus on the game, nothing else really matters. When I was conscious of people hover over my shoulder, it just reminded me of things I should be doing at all times, 'cause I didn't want to look like a newb (lot of good that did haha.) Honestly, when it comes down to it, just have fun and try your best.

Don't beat yourself down so much. When the game starts, both you and your opponent have a 50% chance of winning. Why shouldn't it be you?

What you're doing is great. A learning mentality, testing the water, its necessary sometimes. But give yourself the option of winning it all too. Don't cut yourself short.
