Hi.
I've been playinig sc2 with windows vista and unfortunately it has been lagging a lot for me, not because of internet connection, but because of computer's slowness. I've tried a lot of things to fix this issue, like putting everything on performance, CCleaner, disk defrag, etc. However, it never seems to improve my internal lag.
Therefore, I have just today realized, what if I install windows 7? Since my university provides free install of the OS, I'm currently downloading it. Meanwhile I have a couple of questions, if you guys don't mind.
1. I saw you can upgrade from vista to windows 7. So it's basically not a complicated process as going from vista to XP. I once tried to downgrade OS to XP but the process was so complicated, like booting from burned CD and what not. You just "click" install and it does the job for you?
2. Will it improve the gaming performance? With vista, it seems to lag every time when there's major battle and sudden movements. Normally it's fine most of the time.

1. Yes, you can install Windows 7 directly as an upgrade to your current Vista OS; you wont have to go through any boot setups or partition/format anything and you will keep all your old files. This takes generally around 1-2 hours.
2. Windows 7 is supposed to take up less of your CPU's processing power when compared to Vista. I upgraded from Vista a week ago and I see a few slight differences in the speed or in the manner that my programs are running, but mostly you'll need to disable the automatic windows services that come with the installation of vista or 7. As to whether it will improve gaming performance, that might depend on your computer more than the OS.

Could be a hardware issue, post your computer specs? Vista used to be terrible for games, I dunno if it has improved lately, so maybe W7 will improve performance slightly.

I don't think changing from Vista -> 7 will drastically improve your gaming performance (if any at all).
Definitely more directly related to your hardware as buhhy said, and it would help if you told us your system specs.

My spec is horrid, as my computer's from 2 years ago.
I can't afford new computer right now. So I'm trying to as best as I can.
Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5450 @ 1.66 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT.

8700M GT should be able to run SC2 on medium at least... Vista can't slow your computer down that much.

It might not boost your gaming performance, but updating Windows Vista -> Windows 7 is always a good idea.

also note that upgrading from windows vista 32-bit to windows 7 64-bit is not an easy endeavor.

Of course it could. If you've got things mis-configured enough you can bring just about any quality PC to its knees. Same goes for background processes.

of course you can do that
i'm just saying that if you upgrade to 64-bit from 32-bit it makes it a lot harder.
