Today I tried some beer yet again. Similar to the last 10 times I consumed some form of alcohol, it tasted awful. Seriously awful.
Let's start with beer. The taste of ethanol aside (more on this below), it is very bitter. Yuck.
Then there is wine. Sourness in drinks is something I am generally OK with, but in combination of ethanol? Yuck.
I never tried anything else before. Presumably it's equally bad.
Ultimately, it's the ethanol. It stings my mouth and my tongue; once it is in my mouth I find it incredibly difficult to get it down my throat. Often I have to mix my drink with apple juice or milk in order to finish it.
However, despite difficulties on every occasion I still try to drink some when I have the chance. Why? Because I am absolutely dumbfounded at why the heck this thing is so popular throughout the world.
Like you i never quite understood why this is so popular, i'm guessing it's a left over from the times in which it was safer then other things to drink and currently holds a place in society due to it being like an expectation then turning into something you do with company then in which case i ask why do we have to drink it at parties and such.
You know i actually had a doctor once ask me how "much do i drink", i said "none" and he said "no really".
i think because it is mind-altering the body eventually adapts to like the taste. We like something's taste usually because it contains things our body needs, which allows us to distinguish some edible from nonedible things.
so i bet that when you get a chemical dependency your perception of taste probably distorts..that's what i've heard anyways.. if you're curious, you should check if it's true.

i dont love drinking for the taste, but its really fun to get fucked up with ur friends and do talk, laugh, and do funny/silly/stupid shit while ur drunk
Beer is shit..if its the only thing at a party I'll drink it but I don't enjoy it at all :[ I don't drink much wine..but other liquors like tequila and vodka when mixed with stuff is pretty tasty (unless ur taking shots then taste doesn't really matter xD). But really if the taste bothers you that much..then I guess don't drink D:.
That's because you havn't added nearly enough sugar too it.
On a more serious note, why muts you consume beer? I have only recently begun to devlop a taste for beer, and it's definitely acquired. Personally, my favorite feeling induced by alcohol is that of warmth. Hell most rums are tasty and rum and coke ain't bad even if it's a bit too sweet.

Well, perhaps it is not possible to make it taste more pleasant.
If you really don't like the taste of it, try those Smirnoff flavored drinks. It's like drinking soda, you hardly even taste the alcohol.
Then why not just drink soda???
If you're just drinking for refreshment, then yeah it's pointless, but if you're trying to drink to get buzzed/intoxicated then it's pretty obvious why you'd rather drink it.
and don't get me wrong. I'm not into alcohol, and I generally stay sober even at parties, but it's pretty easy to see the appeal of it.

Btw DanceCommander I am definitely not in kindergarten. Drinking alcohol in a kindergarten in Canada.... mmm.... might get me in trouble.

Like I mentioned in the OP, I drink beer sometimes because I am really puzzled at why it is supposed to be popular.
I love french wine. I love chinese beer. And there's nothing better than a good brandy or scotch when having a discussion with a good old friend on an autumn/winter evening
I've had two friends who used to hate alcohol. They could not bear the taste of ethanol either. The first one got used to the tasted little by little and learnt how to enjoy it. The other one still hates the taste but has so much fun when he's drunk that he drinks anyway :D
Some beers are good, I'm not a huge fan of wine though, but I love soju, some vodkas, rum, etc. All depends on what you mix it with too, but i don't mind some alcohol straight up.

So what i get from this is that you life with your friends is shitty without alcohol, and you people are incapable of creating entertainment without the assistance of mild alternating drugs.
Drinking isn't fun hanging out with friends is fun people just wrongly connect the drinking with the friends. Because they use alcohol as a crutch to do things they think is fun but are too ashamed of being associated with such acts.

Then at which point i ask why isn't everyone shooting up drugs, cocaine heroin etc to get their highs. There is nothing quite like the high given from heroin want to have a fucking good time take heroin. Frankly i see it as public perception that over the years alcohol has been accepted due to its affluence as a form of safe drinking water in the past

American and Canadian """"BEER"""" is absolute shit and should be purged
All that pussy "BUD LITE" crap is a fucking disgrace to men the world over. If you have to drink a beer ice cold because you'd puke at the taste otherwise, something is amiss.
A pint of stout is damn good shit.
I'm mostly with the OP on this one though, most alcohol just tastes bad to me.
I share your feelings, I absolutely HATE the way alcoholic beverages taste, I have searched for a drink that is appealing to my taste, but I have not found it.

also what kind of weird wine are you getting if its too sour? you should def get some nonshitty stuff before you judge.

People have different taste, alcohol isn't distasteful, you just don't like it. It's so popular around the world because there are a lot of other people who love it. I for one find any sweet drink absolutely disgusting but I can understand that other people might enjoy them.

Well I didn't buy it xD. And I can get a months supply of delicious 100% apple juice from sams for 8$ as well. So BOOYA!
In time you will learn to enjoy it. Just make a drink with Vodka + Cranberry Juice (first think I ever drank), and have a lower concentration of vodka. Then increase concentration as tolerance builds. YAY!
first of all the beer you drank is some shitty brand(you cant taste the "ethanol" in good brands of beer/wine). second of all beer is first and foremost a mean to cool down, and/or get a buzz. Lemonade for example has a taste that is far more disgusting then beer yet everyone drinks it. Cos it's a good way to cool down. third, recently i've been drinking pretty much cocktails instead of shots, they just taste better and allow you to spend more time sipping before you get completely wasted. And forth and foremost, you are unmanly;( Anxiously awaiting on your follow up blogs on how suits and dress shoes are uncomfortable and how it's not fair that men have to approach women instead of vise verse.
The occasional beer or wine with food is always good. Sometimes I'll have a glass with me while I'm playing SC2 or watching a movie.
Only when I'm out is when the strong stuff comes out. Vodka, tequila, wihskey... All disgusting but they get the job done. I don't think I could ever drink $8 vodka though, that's some pretty gross shit hahah.
Semantics, if you don't drink that's fine and totally up to you but to totally blow something off like that when you've never tried it... :| What I get from your post is the image of a close-minded individual determined to stick to the 'path of righteousness'. "you guys are unable to have fun with your friends without the presence of mind-altering drugs", "drinking isn't fun hanging out with friends is fun" wat.
It's like SC2-bashing, and we're all tired of that yeah?
As for the OP, beer is definitely an acquired taste. I haven't met anybody who adamantly refuses to drink wine either though, most people find wine okay but that's still up to you. I would recommend trying some of the fruitier (girlier ) drinks because hey... they're pretty good. A nice rum&coke never hurt anybody (actually it might have).
I'm only fifteen and never really even been to a party where you would have beer so I haven't tasted it. But I hang out with my mom a lot and she drinks and the even the smell of the beer makes me go blah. I puke really easy so I'm not even going to try any alcohol because I know I'm just going to spit it out. My brother tried it when we were kids and he spit it out immediately but now he likes it.

Have you drunk enough to feel the effects before?
If you're open to the idea of other drinks and want to find something you can stomach, when I started drinking I mixed vodka with apple juice, I found that apple juice was strong enough to mask the feeling you're describing as stinging. After a little while progress to mixing vodka with other drinks maybe.
I'm not a fan of beer at all or much in the way of wine either but spirits can definitely get you by. If you're going out to somewhere with a bar then yeah it'll cost you more, but if you're doing a house party situation it's pretty cheap I find (unless of course you buy the super expensive drinks).

this is good advice, mixing simple drinks is definitely a great way to get used to and enjoy alcohol for people just starting out. Grab some of your favorite fruit juices and mix it with vodka and it'll be a great deal more enjoyable (cranberry and vodka is great).

That's cool, I was just wondering if your aversion was because you weren't happy with the effect or something. Like I said before, if only for the sake of feeling it once definitely try mixing spirits with something you enjoy drinking (like it seems apple juice). People will label it as unmanly but at the end of the day it comes down to drinking what you enjoy. Plus you'll get used to it this way.

Have you drunk enough to feel the effects before?
Well, apple juice and milk have their limitations (adds too much volume) so I haven't been able to force myself to drink so much as to be drunk.
I may try this.

Patron, or any other kind of shot is the only way to go.. I only drink beer if I'm playing beer pong, it just doesn't get me sufficiently drunk for the amount of calories I would be intaking. i had my first drink (more than a sip) of alcohol like 2-3 weeks ago (soju). after 2 small cups, i had a fucking headache for 3 days and instant spasm (had 3 cups in total, only drank cuz friends made me)
i totally understand you, why the fuck is alcohol so popular? it tastes so bitter and sour

i dont love drinking for the taste, but its really fun to get fucked up with ur friends and do talk, laugh, and do funny/silly/stupid shit while ur drunk
Hum i wonder if there is a study on telling people there is alcohol in their drinks vs not telling them ofc with the usual double blind part etc. And what is observed with there is alcohol present vs not.

Then at which point i ask why isn't everyone shooting up drugs, cocaine heroin etc to get their highs. There is nothing quite like the high given from heroin want to have a fucking good time take heroin. Frankly i see it as public perception that over the years alcohol has been accepted due to its affluence as a form of safe drinking water in the past
come on man, you are reading waaay to much into what I posted. My life is hardly shitty without alcohol. I go drinking a few times a month only when I feel like it and not for the sake of it, and am by no means an experienced or frequent drinker. but at the same time, the fact that I do get drunk occasionally means that I know firsthand what its like. From the point of view of when I didn't drink, it's something i couldn't possibly have known, which I feel in turn applies to you.
That being said, your point about drinking and having fun with friends is inherently biased and flawed by your abstinence (or close to it) from alcohol. I do agree with your statement about the knowledge that one has consumed alcohol having a psychological factor in our perception of fun, but I definitely know that I am not mixing up "drinking is fun" with "hanging out with friends" is fun. Drinking by myself is not fun. Hanging out with friends (sober) is fun. Drinking and hanging out with friends is fun, but usually a different kind of fun. Really, its something you need to experience firsthand to see what i mean.
As to your last comment, again, how would you know? if you are this vehement about alcohol, i doubt youve experimented with those, so how would you know? and just on the logical side, drugs are illegal, associated with gangs/crime, have more serious side effects and can be lethal in small doses, and are not as safe and regulated as alcohol for many reasons. and you hardly have to be affluent to afford to drink man... college parties are usually filled with the cheapest stuff you can get - im not sure what ur point is, but people hardly drink beer cuz it makes them feel rich lol.
for mixed drinks, i would recommend the following:
basics: malibu (rum) and hawaiian punch rum and coke screwdriver (oj + vodka) vodka + cranberry seven and seven (whiskey and 7up) 소맥 (a shot of soju in beer)
for more complex drinks: tokyo iced tea (freaking amazing) AMF margarita - any type
shots: avoid tequila whenever possible imo. that stuff burns sooooo much and is by far the grossest tasting liquor. vodka and rum are good! jello shots are fun too
beer: well if you're in america you don't really have too many great options at the local supermarket. blue moon is pretty good though. whatever you do avoid crappy ones like tecate or natty.

I would recommend trying some of the fruitier (girlier ) drinks because hey... they're pretty good. A nice rum&coke never hurt anybody (actually it might have).
I've drank, i've drank plenty when i first started out in college, over time i've come to the conclusion i can have fun without drinking i just need my friends, drinking was nothing more then just a medium for us to relate and do shit together. Also i did hate the taste of it and the headakes that came after a night a drinking call me a light weight but fuck no matter how little i drink if i got buzzed i got a massive headake next day.
There are several mixed drinks that taste like candy, icecream, or koolaid. Heck, with flavored vodka/rum they can be incredibly cheap to make (vanilla vodka + orange soda tastes like orange-sherbet and vanilla icecream).
I used to hate alcohol until someone made me drink a White Russian (which is pretty nummy). Once I figured out what feeling drunk was like, I didn't mind the taste of straight shots as much anymore. Not because I thought it taste any better, but because if the alcohol was strong enough, I knew I'd be drunk soon and wouldn't care what it taste like. At first I'd have one girl-drink to loosen up (white russian, Black opal, Long-island ice tea were my favs) then switch to shots. But these days if I decide to get drunk, I don't bother mucking about, and I go straight shots.
I still hate beer and wine. Not only does their taste not appeal to me, but they take quite a while to get drunk off of, and in the meantime you're pissing every 5 minutes with the weakest buzz known to man.
If you don't like alcohol then you don't like it, you can't make yourself enjoy it. One thing I've noticed though is that the taste of beer tends to grow on you, I used to dislike the taste but now a good beer is one of my favorite things to drink

I feel the same way - ethanol tastes disgusting. Why do you keep forcing yourself to drink it? A lot of people I know who drink casually admit it's an acquired taste; personally I see no reason to try to acquire the taste for a poison.
Having been sufficiently sleep deprived to simulate the effects of alcohol on a couple occasions (I once realized I could no longer walk in a straight line or pass a field sobriety test while completely sober when I'd been awake for about 2 days straight), I can see why people would be interested in it, but I just can't get past the flavor and am not interested enough to try.

To continue with the discussion of mixed drinks, rum and coke is my favorite, closely followed by jagrbawmbz, liquid cocaine, and long island iced tea.

Like others have recommended, Blue Moon is pretty good, though I don't really care for it anymore. If you can find it, I'd definitely their summer seasonal Honey Moon. Stick it in the freezer and drink it before it starts to slush. My two favorite beers now have to be New Castle and Pyramid Apricot Ale.

I'm from Redding/Chico area, and the Sierra Nevada Brewery is one of my favorite places to go eat . Superb handmade pizzas, plus their brews on tap are SOOOO good, holy shit. It's insane how much better the brews are there compared to bottled(which makes sense, as well tap brews are better).
also I LOVE BEER
Not the piss beer that is advertised as THE GREATEST LAGERS IN THE WORLD, such as Bud, Natty Ice, etc etc. That beer is really, REALLY shitty. It doesn't help that my first beer was a reallllly dark ale that at first was disgusting, but after having 1-2 I was immediately hooked. My favorite beer of all time is Blue Moon, I have it regularly:
Some of my favorites definitely include the Blue Moon brews, Black Butte Porter, Tangerine Wheat, Old Rasputin, Obsidian Stout(ridicuuuulously smooth chocolate stout - must try). I can see why a lot of people hate beer, but please don't compare shitty piss-tasting drinks like natty ice/bud light/etc to all beers.
I actually was in the same boat a while ago, but i just got used to it (and tried better brands) Actually i do like wine, and at first more than beer, and that got me more used to the 'alcohol feel' if you can put it that way.

Likewise, my mouth has been watering while I was reading the thread so far... Would it be possible for you to mail me some kind of beer, we get German beers here, but they're not imported, instead a local brand gets sub-contracted and usually, the taste is not so different from the local version, but there's a nice 30%+ percent addition to the price.
Edit: And yeah, good brands really do make difference, not only in beer, worse brands of spirits cause bad hangovers, headaches, etc. etc.
I actually enjoy the taste of beer. I think it's because I would always finish off my dad's beer (bottle, not can) in high school and it was some of the nicer stuff, not Natty Light or anything. And while I indulge in the occasional beer or even two or three from time to time (I'm 21,) what I find truly distasteful is drunk people. Are they that obnoxious and boring when they're sober? If so then I am really depressed. I'm referring to that cross-section of drinkers that just become complete idiots after god knows how many TOO many beers: and they seem to be extremely abundant. I'm tempted to throw out that beer vs. weed cliche but the comparison is unnecessary as alcohol shouldn't be legal period IMVHO. Cheers to that! *sips a cold one*
anyway like was mentioned earlier alcohols popularity stems largely from the fact that it is safe to drink even after very long periods of time. a long time ago this was a very practical reason to drink it. getting fucked up off of it was a happy by product i imagine..
usually drink a beer or two now and then but I generally don't enjoy getting shitfaced
I think it's pretty hard to dislike a simple rum and coke or a fruity cooler. I have grown to appreciate the taste of beer (took longer than coffee, however) but wine still doesn't sit right with me. Most liquors I can stand the taste of, excluding tequila.
I love how everyone is saying, omg of course you don't like beer, you drank a natty/keystone/pbr etc. If you're just learning to drink, it doesn't really matter what beer you choose. They will all be bitter to you. Some have a fruity flavor, some are smoother, some light, some dark, but if you are looking for something that really tastes good, don't drink beer. Grab a soda or some juice.
I think you would like the taste of a mixed drink much better. Get some cheap vodka, and get your favorite mixer(orange juice, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, sprite) basically, any kind of juice or liquid that can help mask the taste. Mix just a little vodka in with the mixer at first. Don't focus on only drinking the drink. Watch the tv, talk to people etc. Casually drink it. Make your next drink slightly stronger. Repeat. Next drink stronger. By this time your tongue will be used to the taste and you will be able to handle it. You should be intoxicated by this time.
If you want a slightly less sweet drink, you can try whiskey/coke, my favorite.
@semantics Of course alcohol can lead to some bad times, and some people use it as a crutch. But some of the funnest times of my life have been with alcohol. For example, Drunk karaoke >>> Sober karaoke.
Honestly, good beers are hard to find, and some people don't like beer. There are a select few people (like my old man) who don't like any alcoholic beverages. You may be one of those people, but more likely than not you never had good shit like 99% of the human race when they started drinking. It's not an evil gross thing designed to make you act retarded - though many people think it is. It's just an enjoyable beverage like any other.
This fall get a damn Sam Adams Octoberfest. You'll thank me.
You know I hated beer for quite a few years until yesterday when my friends took me out for a brand I never tried before and it tasted soo good. As for wine there's many bad wines but so many good wines also, that it would be a sin to judge just from one or even a couple of bottles.
I would advice trying different drinks and even if you don't like them try them perhaps twice in a row (over a month or two) and sooner or later you'll find something you actually like. If there's something you didn't like the second or third time, don't fall for your friends saying you'll eventually like it, just drop it and look somewhere else. I deeply regret these 4 years of drinking beer I didn't like when I could've had something way better.
and seriously don't pretend you cant see the appeal of getting buzzed...and if you really can't then you are a moron. Alcohol can be a crutch or a fun activity....your choice.
EDIT: I'm not fond of the taste....you try your best to cover it up...but I drink for fun.

Man, that sucks, I just got out of Freshman year with a constant supply of Fat Tire, Seirra Nevada, and Blue Moon. The trick was to originally only buy good beer and be generous and talk about how bad all the other shit was. Thus my little friends who hadn't drunk before college began only buying good beer which I summarily mooched while only stocking up on Trader Joes brand beers like Simpler Times and Red Oval for emergencies.
I feel I did them a service my making them drink good beer and lord knows I saved on my budget.
man there's so much interesting pre-existing discussion to be found on this topic from googling
for example, how old are you right now OP? because depending on your age, this reply from answers.com (most likely derived from another source) may help:
"Development of taste buds over time as the body grows.
Childrens' tongues are especially sensitive towards sweet things. It's part of the body's biochemical development programme that foods with have lots of carbonhydrate power appeal more to small children than they do to adults. That's why it's not hard to get a get to like ice cream and cereal, but a different story to get him to eat squash, turnips and in some cases even meat.
Alcohol is not sweet, and its poisonous. That is why it usually doesn't appeal to children, unless you mix something like Vodka & Koolaid. Then they cannot taste the alcohol.
The older you become, the less dependent your body is on sugar as a primary energy source, and this deteriorates over time until some people have old-age diabetes.
It's also the reason why young adults like mixed drinks with coke and 7-up, sweet wine, wine coolers and beer & soda mixes. s and dry wine appeals to older people, usually starting at the age of 35 or older." As you get older, soda pop loses its appeal (for many), as does sweet wine, sweet cocktails like daquaries margaritas and mixed drinks with Kaluha. No wonder there is a Scottish saying that goes "You're not a man until you can enjoy whiskey", and they meant whiskey pure or maybe just ice. Dry beer, dry martini http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100504131640AAqACbV
Beer is definitely an acquired taste, I hated it when I was young, but now I love it. It also helps to explore a large variety of beer, some are just outstanding. Beer is also great with food, and finding the right pairing can be heavenly.
I think you just had terrible terrible wine. Good wine isn't supposed to be sour, it might have a hint of sourness, but it should in general be very subtle. Wine is very elegant and classy, I recommend you to go on a wine tour if there is a winery near where you live.

Beer is served best as just a drink for refreshments, i reckon.
My favorite beer is grolsch, or any beer from a micro brewery. Hell I even used to brew my own beer, soooo much better than commercial beer. Next time I should make one called mutalisk micro, and I dunno, put chillies and, glaves in it.
Different alcohols are good for different occasions. Soju for a small get together, or SC lan, arcade party or something where gaming is involved.
For a pub night, jugs of the cheapest beer you can get.
Straight scotch when you can think of shit all to do. (Which I reckon tastes great btw)
And whatever you can get your hands on (i dunno, goon? jaga jellies?) for a house party.
Chocolate and truffle stout is pretty nice/novel not sure how common it is, only came across it once ever, but not being the most worldly of people that doesn't say much. Soju is also surprisingly nice, easy to drink. But yeah I despise beer for the most part.
I'd just like to point out (for the op) that few wine are made to be drunk alone.
Most (especially heavy red wine) require a proper meal to be appreciated, if you dont believe me just try to drink a cahor with and without a plate of red meat to eat, you would understand my point quickly.
If you want to drink wine alone, just stick to white wine or rosé, or light reds.
Also please be careful to chose your wine well as bad wine is perhaps the worst alcohol on earth. Trust me, nothing can beat a bottle of cheap red wine when it comes to giving someone a hangover or to waste a stomach.
lol, who ever said beer was supposed to taste good. i've found that they best ones maybe taste a little less bad than the others (i swear moosehead actually tastes like a furry moose). but it's not one of those things you drink for the taste...more for the fun value afterwards
You clearly need to expand your horizons on alcohol, if you think that some cheap beer/wine is the best there is.....
Try a Guinness, or a Warsteiner for something a little stronger than some cheap lager. Or get a wheat ale, like a white (many breweries make whites, for instance, Sleeman, Alexander Keith's, and Rickards are 3 major breweries in Canada that make whites) for something a little sweeter. Or, even better, a cider beer works too (Magners and Woodpecker are two good ones to start with, although Strongbow is one of the more popular ones in Canada). You can get many different types of cider beers too, not all are based with apples. I've tried a blueberry-based cider beer, and it was freaking awesome!
If you want a good wine, for a relatively cheap price, get one of the Wayne Gretzky wines. They're relatively cheap, and very good for the price. I'm not much of a wine drinker though - I like my beer and shots.
You could always try some shots. There are some good ones. One of my favorites is Cointreau. It is an orange liqueur, very thick, very sweet, and has an incredibly good aftertaste. I actually use it as a chaser for other shots.....
Some mixed drinks are awesome too. Mojitos are an awesome drink to have when you're sitting in the sun relaxing. Or try a screwdriver - orange juice hides the harshness of the vodka pretty well. Add a shot of Baileys or B52 into your coffee, rather than cream and sugar.
There are some awesome, yet crazy combinations too. Ever heard of an Irish Hand Grenade? A shot of Jameson, a shot of Baileys, and a half pint of Guinness. After the shot of whiskey, you'd swear that the shot of baileys bombed in the Guinness is actually chocolate milk.
If your looking or alcohol that tastes good... don't be drinking beer or wine(aquired taste). Give some nice brandy or scotch on the rocks a try, that should tickle your fancy. =]
He's already tried "beer". Meaning "terrible lager". Getting him to expand his horizon, even if he doesn't like it, is at least a step in the right direction.

I tried Guinness on tap the first time about two-three years ago, and it was absolutely amazing. It's still pretty good in the bottle, but not quite as good. I'd generally agree with you on dark beers (though I now prefer dark) for first time drinkers, but Guinness is very unique in that aspect. I've never had a problem with Guinness being bitter, and if you swirl it around in your mouth a bit you get a very rich and nutty taste. And damn if that isn't the gayest sounding thing I've ever said.
Cider beer is indeed good, and though not a beer, it makes me recommend Hornsby's Hard Cider. That's definitely a drink I think the OP could down with ease.
Though I don't hard liquor that often, I'm very fond of Grand Marnier, Bailey's, Malibu, Courvoisier and of course Jack. Once again, I'd recommend the first three to the OP; they are quite potent but are definitely some of the tastier when it come to hard liquor. The other two you should probably avoid unless you're going for Jack and Coke.

This is fully correct imho, takes a long time to get used to any stout, bar a few micro-brewery exceptions. Stouts need to be consumed close to where they are brewed also, so a local stout will often be better than a internationally famous brand if transportation takes a long time.
Cider is a funny old drink, easy to get started on but it can rip the stomach off you over time, very much one to be had in moderation. It's called lunatic juice for a reason ^_^
Beer is fucking delicious. It's definitely an acquired taste but people start drinking for the effect ~_~ You newbs clearly just nerdly haters judging shit you havn't quite experienced

Yep yep ^^
I work in Ebisu (Tokyo), on the grounds of an ancient brewery before they got bought out and moved (Ebisu was acquired by Sapporo). The Ebisu dark I get on tap near my workplace is literally 10x better than Guinness, which they also have on tap.
You don't know what the hell you're talking about because you probably drank reddog or natty or some other garbage, but whatever brah, more beer for me

Are you kidding? Neither Bailey's nor Malibu have as much alcohol as Listerine. They're around 20% alcohol, which is weak enough to chug if you have to.
If you're looking for stronger alcohols that still don't taste like shit, there are a bunch of fruit-flavored spirits that are around 50% alcohol and still taste decent. 99 Apples or 99 Bananas are a pretty cheap alcohol that you can find that taste like liquid candy.
It really depends on what kind of beer you're drinking. If it's like Natural Light or some sort of other low quality beer then, yeah, it's going to taste like shit unless it's super cold. College either makes you love beer cause you want to seem like you're not a square, or it ruins beer for you cause it all tastes horrible. Try going to a bar to get draft beer or look for different types of beer, maybe you'll like lighter beers llike Qingdao or something like that.
On a side note. I just had I glass of beer yesterday in Taiwan. My first glass since it's illegal for me to drink in the U.S. (what a good boy). I wasn't tipsy AT ALL. Waste of enduring the bitterness.

Did you expect to feel tipsy after drinking a single glass of beer? Even for "light weight" drinkers, it will take more beer than that. Unless of course, this was a massive glass consisting of multiple pints.
LOL~ I hate beer, I drink harder liquors, smirnoff, jack, captain, etc..Anyone every try 151? Just bought some last night - very hard liquor. I usually mix it with OJ, pop or some other kind of juice.
Wonder how old the OP is? "Here son, have a taste of this" "daddy, this is aweful! BRB thread on TL"
Once you get used to the taste of beer - You'll love it! I promise. It tastes great and there so many variants of beer, it cant get any better than that.

I did say I don't drink hard liquor often, and for someone who doesn't even care for beer and wine due to the taste, dropping them into higher alcohol stuff probably won't increase their fondness for it. Bailey's and Malibu taste good, so there's not much more to it than that. If you look at my profile considering the fact that I'm a nerd that doesn't socialize, you might see why my alcoholic knowledge is rather limited.
@illu: Try getting drunk with some good friends. You can do this without having to even taste alcohol. You might make punch with some kind of fruity juice, orange juice mixes quite well (but try to also add in some kind of red or purple as long as you know the juice mix you end up with still tastes decent), and then also have a bottle of vodka handy (Smirnoff tends to be a cheaper brand popular with poor college students). You can add about half the bottle to the juice, assuming you have a lot of it, but I like to add the vodka into individual drinks, so you can get a feel for how much you want in each drink. You can actually add quite a bit in each drink without being able to taste it (okay, you might be able to taste it 2-5% as opposed to 40%, but it's less than beer) depending on the mixture of juices you use.
Also: don't sip it. Drink it like you would juice, but don't be chugging the whole glass, you can do that next time. Beer is the kind of drink you chug. This is the kind of drink you gulp.
Keep drinking until you're just past "buzzed" and just before "drunk." I find that's generally the best place to be for parties. This should take about 2-4 drinks depending on how much vodka you add in. Then, have fun. After reading the OP I feel that you're one of those people that just has to experience being drunk to understand why people enjoy it so much. Just remember, when the juice starts tasting REALLY GOOD (you'll know what I mean), try not to overdo it. At that point it's best to stop and just enjoy yourselves, and perhaps drink some water.
I enjoy harder liquor (vodka, rum, whiskey, etc) because it takes less liquid to get drunk, and that's really all it's about. Some people like beer because it's just about the closest thing to water you can get, and you can easily pace yourself to get to the exact level of "drunk" that you find most pleasant.

99 bananas is horrible. It smells good but jesus christ ;( I put it in fruit punch though as well as straight shots, maybe thats why.
Personally, Captain and Coke or Soco and Lime are pretty decent. There isnt really any alcohol that tastes any good at all, some are passable like schnapps but eh.

Flaming Dr. Peppers are awesome with 151.
151, Amaretto, Beer. Good to go. A few of those will get you messed up a bit.
You gotta get quality Amaretto though, it will taste bad if you get the really shitty stuff.
I wouldnt recommend doing straight shots of 151 to anyone though, I did 3 and had heartburn for like 2 days

Pretty much this ~ Take a decent sized glass and put about a shot of vodka in it (depending on the size of the glass) and you will barely be able to taste it.
1 shot = 1 beer~ Serving So the more juice you mix with the shot, the less you will taste

agree beer is fucking delicious. disagree about aquired taste, i loved it from my first.
A shot or two of 70 proof Captain Morgan's spiced rum in a can of coke is fucking delicious. It's literally like drinking vanilla coke, though there is a very slight hint of the alcohol in the taste, but it's negligible.
I'll just say this: You can't rationalize everything in life. Sometimes you have to man up and drink something that tastes like shit to avoid being the kid at home justifying why killing brain cells is stupid.
So on the summer before I entered college, my family and a few other pastors (my parents are pastors) went to Dominican Republic for some conference.
My sister spent half the time trying to get me to try alcohol telling me it's good. I tried wine and some other drinks they had and I told her "this tastes like shit, why would you drink this"
And then this 13 year old kid who was around (and his parents are pastors too) tells me "that's cause you haven't drank enough alcohol"
owned by a 13 year old pastor's kid
but yeah I still find alcohol generally expensive and not worth it, although I do drink vodka mixes once every blue moon in very specific situations if i *have* to drink. I can understand why people drink in general though
PS: To everyone saying "That's cause you haven't drank good stuff", i can tell you 100% you are wrong. It has nothing to do with drinking "good alcohol" when alcohol itself tastes like crap to a lot of people (including me).

I never drink alcohol by itself, its usually to accompany something... Like grilled meats, beer by itself just doesnt do it for me. Not to mention that Im a very light drinker, 2 bottles and I'll probably start seeing shit.

Yeah, I find that alcohol does taste disgusting... but I drink it anyways cause it's given to me, for me it is more of a social thing. Beer is fine it's tolerable and I can down it easy (might have to do with my like for ginger ale), I just find like red wine and stuff nasty. I know I'm such a cheap drinker.

Although I think you're doing fine by not drinking, if you want to keep trying then I suggest making friends with a good mixologist. A shandy, mango bellini, fruit punch or cocktail with low alcohol content might be more enjoyable for you.

lol... tipsy after 1 beer? I personally almost never drink anything under 8% but even then 1 beer... I actually laughed at that seems americans don't know how to drink . Reminds me- what's with all the ads for LIGHT beer on American channels? Who the fuck likes LIGHT beer? :|
Okay tough guy. I drink pretty often and substantially, but there are surely days where I feel tipsy after one beer depending on the situation.
One time I did a mountain long climb on only some morning cereal. After the five-hour trek, we decided to grab some food. Because I was thirsty and stupid, I downed a glass of beer in a few gulps before the food arrived, I was fucking destroyed
On July 19 2010 23:46 hp.Shell wrote: @illu: Try getting drunk with some good friends.
I wish you well on your adventures. ^_^
Pretty much this ~ Take a decent sized glass and put about a shot of vodka in it (depending on the size of the glass) and you will barely be able to taste it.
1 shot = 1 beer~ Serving So the more juice you mix with the shot, the less you will taste

Flaming Dr. Peppers are awesome with 151.
151, Amaretto, Beer. Good to go. A few of those will get you messed up a bit.
You gotta get quality Amaretto though, it will taste bad if you get the really shitty stuff.
I wouldnt recommend doing straight shots of 151 to anyone though, I did 3 and had heartburn for like 2 days
haha yeah, I did that a few years ago and I just layed on a couch for the whole party, I thought I was going to burn up
Going to have the 151 w/ Dr Pepper, seems to be my favorite liquid, excluding TL
its called a flaming dr. pepper because it tastes similar to dr pepper. Theres no Dr. Pepper in it.
Put Amaretto and 151 in a shot glass (enough to get it to burn, or you can put the amaretto and beer together and do an entire shot of 151) light it then drop it in a half cup/glass of beer and slam it. Its like a Jager Bomb
lots of variations, but when putting the amaretto and 151 together i felt like we got no 151, was much better with the 151 in the shot glass by itself.

i love college, baby
Man, that sucks, I just got out of Freshman year with a constant supply of Fat Tire, Seirra Nevada, and Blue Moon. The trick was to originally only buy good beer and be generous and talk about how bad all the other shit was. Thus my little friends who hadn't drunk before college began only buying good beer which I summarily mooched while only stocking up on Trader Joes brand beers like Simpler Times and Red Oval for emergencies.
I feel I did them a service my making them drink good beer and lord knows I saved on my budget.
hahaha excellent strategy. yeah, i guess bigger events like decent-sized parties and such are filled with those three beers, but my friends and i can afford to buy our own higher class beers when we are drinking on our own. it's understandable though - the party hosts just need to buy masses of the cheapest kind available for people to play drinking games or whatever. i don't mind those cheap beers unless they are warmed, and actually really like them when they are cold.
Wine is much much better if you drink it while having a meal or snacking. Wine and cheese parties are my favorite kinds of parties. I gave up red wine though, one time I drank a whole bottle of the stuff and was running around with red lips all night like an idiot too drunk to even realize it. Now I stick to german pinot blanc, it goes down easy and it meshes well with most food.
If you don't like certain types of drinks then don't force yourself to like them. There is a lot of variety out there and it won't hurt to experiment until you find something you're comfortable with. If you like milk I'd recommend Baileys, it's a bit more expensive but it has a rich creamy taste that you would probably like.
I dislike beer, and will only drink it when im already getting to the drunk stage. I prefer Cider, Kopperberg or Magners is my drink of choice. Looking forward to Bulmers summer berry cider that should be comming out soon.

me too dude. fuckers always mauling me and taking my honey.
Completely agree with everything said. I feel pretty much the same way. It's quite unpleasant, like drinking a cough medicine. My fav. drink is water.

I didn't have any gestation period so to speak with alcohol. I jumped in late nine'th grade totally digging on beer and liqueur, even the cheap crappy stuff. Never understood people who "don't like the taste of beer", even the warmest flattest piss water I've ever drank was still strangely appealing to me. Beer is also ever so gentle on the hangover, a huge advantage I'm sure we all can agree.
Like every other nerd on these forums I didn't go to a party until I was 15, and I didn't drink 'till the fourth party because I didn't want to lose braincells and I was a hardcore straight edge mother fuckers mother fucker. Oh well, you live and learn.

Drink a few bottles of bud light with lime. If you've had strong beer recently itll just taste like fizzy lime water and you should feel something after a few of them.

You know what, it happens with me also, and it makes me hungry. Strangely enough pot has neither one of those effects on me.
Beer is an acquired taste. I started off with shitty beers, realized they sucked, and kept moving up. And nothing is better than getting together with friends, having a grill with some steaks/burgers and some good beer.
On July 19 2010 21:06 Cambium wrote: Guinness is a terrible beer to start, in fact, most people I know initially hated dark beers. Cider beers are awesome indeed.
Yep yep ^^
I work in Ebisu (Tokyo), on the grounds of an ancient brewery before they got bought out and moved (Ebisu was acquired by Sapporo). The Ebisu dark I get on tap near my workplace is literally 10x better than Guinness, which they also have on tap.
Dammit, now I do to. And DAMN! Stout on tap, I can never get stout on tap, let alone Yebisu. Kinda sucks when breweries get bought out, they are never the same. Hell, nearly everything is getting bought by Fosters over here, now everything tastes like Carlton Draught. Even Kirin beer is being brewed locally, and reeks of fosters. So I have to go out of my way to check every bottle to see if its imported or not.
Hopefully they sell one at my local asian liquor store.

I just don't get alcohol either - most of it tastes gross to me, and the idea of upping your chances of;
A) Throwing up. (As an emetophobe this is my #1 reason for not drinking.) B) Getting sick some other way such as an accident whilst drunk, or liver damage if you drink excessively for a long time. C) Losing or having your possessions stolen. D) Getting in trouble with the police. E) Causing problems with friends or family.
It just doesn't appeal. This only really applies to excessive drinking, and I will have the odd glass of something with a meal, but generally I just prefer the safety and taste of something non-alcoholic.
It's sounds stupid, but yeah, when I drink alcohol I do it to get drunk to some degree. I find it tolerable, and somewhat tasty in some forms (White russians, mm..) but mostly if I wanted to drink something purely for the taste; it wouldn't contain alcohol.

Yeah, the things you names are really for the minority of people that abuse alcohol. I drink often, but that doesn't mean I get drunk or that I'm not responsible. I grew out of the stage for I just drink to get drunk (though sometimes it will still happen). Getting in trouble with the police and having family problems because of it are from people that abuse it and/or are alcoholics. That or just plain irresponsible.
Used to be in the same boat. Hated beer, I could barely finish one beer before I felt like hurling. I tried all of what my friends and other college drinkers drank (like Heineken, Corona, Miller Lite/Coors/Budweiser etc) I came to the conclusion that beer was overrated.
Then I tried some chocolate stouts. OMG it was good. I then started drinking a lot of dark beers. Now I love beer lol. Corona and Heineken is still ass. I'd suggest drinking some Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada beers if you want a casual beer, those are pretty good. Or try some wheat beers/hefeweizens. Before long you can notice subtle tastes and aromas that make the beer taste really freaking good instead of just alcohol. (Ex. If you smell a Sam Adams lager after you finish the bottle and leave it out a while, it smells like caramel, mMmm.)
How old are you? No one actually likes alcohol when they are very young... you get used to it then actually enjoy it. I hated beer in my early teens.. I very much enjoy it now.
I am not too adverse towards "fruitier" drinks, ie. drinks that don't have that overwhelming alchohol taste to it. If it tastes fruity, milky, or what have you, it would be alright.
However, I absolutely despise beer. The last time I had a beer, I had a cup of bud, and a whole 5+ hours later, I start vomiting like 3-4 times. I'm assuming I am a normal sized human being and can process alchohol, but the lingering taste of beer in my mouth eventually made me vomit. Even drinking other things like water, juice, etc. would not help, and the beer smell would still be there.
That was 2 months ago, and even now, if I take a whiff of beer, I start getting the chills. Probably need another couple months for my next beer excursion.
Honestly I'm not a huge fan of beer. I mean, I'll drink it, its not that I think its disgusting but other then parties, I won't do so in my spare time by myself. Its very tasteless and bland imo.

yeah that's the thing about alcohol though - it's better not to drink it at all than to do so excessively. if you can handle your drinks and know your limit, it's a great addition to the atmosphere and a way to a good night

My favorite thing about drugs in general is the altered state of mind you get, but I just can't drink until I'm drunk or buzzed, I don't like it. I throughly enjoy almost every other drug I've tried (besides LSA, very boring to me).

You've never been drunk until you've been drunk at a party in northern canada. The good thing about alcohol is the taste stops mattering once you are sufficiently drunk

I haven't drank for a few months, and don't plan to ever again, but I have to say that the thing you say 'tastes bad' is exactly what I love about alcohol. It's what I love about black coffee, and cold tea, and working till I am completely delirious and insane. If alcohol didn't affect my consciousness (wasting so many nights), it wasn't unhealthy (my poor liver and brain), and it didn't cost so much (gaahhh, wallet), I would drink vodka all the time just for the burn it gives my mouth. I actually relish the burn of Listerine once a day because it's the only ethanol I still get and it feels soo good.
HI MY NAME IS CHEF AND I AM A FREAK
edit: also, anyone who says they don't drink alcohol because it tastes bad is destined to drink excessively in five years. Literally everyone says that the first few times they drink. Then they either discover girly drinks, or they discover a social situation where they're willing to suck it up to be polite (which starts the slippery slope of acquiring a taste).

Then this will be the year you become an alcoholic! Congratulations!
I know plenty of people who don't like any form of beer or wine or anything where you can taste the alcohol. Most are the sort of person who don't like anything unless it's either loaded with sugar or fat, for whom mashed potatoes, vanilla ice cream, and white wonderbread are the best things imaginable. People who don't like things that 'taste'.
I started drinking late in Senior year of high school.
Drank quite a bit the summer before college. Drank a decent amount during Freshman year of College, drank very little during Sophomore year, and am planning to drink even less in the Junior year.
Is this a good thing (health-wise?) or am I just bored of it and am heading straight for cocaine without even knowing it? =/

Beer is awesome (took about a year for me to really enjoy it though). Also takes you to a fun place. Vodka/Rum/Whiskey is awesome for power drinking (mix it up = good times and good taste. pound shots for guarenteed fun) Wine is awesome with dinner. And maybe a few more glasses afterwards to help the conversation flow.
I love getting stupidly drunk. Mostly because i'm a pretty composed drunk and it usually leads to something epic with my friends. I dont need to drink to have fun, but i rather drink when i can. Everything seems more enjoyable. Caring less is fun. Drunk sex is awesome. Being in a group of strangers at a party sober = awkward. drunk = fun. pow pow

A,B,C, and potentially D don't appeal to me in the slightest. E is a good cause as long as it doesn't get out of control. I just don't see the appeal - as for people saying it only happens to people who are alcoholics that's rubbish - tonnes of people who have drinking 'binges' lose items, get into fights etc all the time. It's even more apparent here in Seoul when you see girls passed out on subway benches and old men squabbling like little kids.
It's the drinking and making other peoples' lives difficult that I object to. Having a good time is everyones' right as long as it doesn't break the law, in danger or otherwise make other people uncomfortable.
Once we went out as a group of TLers with some others I didn't know - one of the Korean guys (old enough to know better) ended up puking in to a glass less than a foot away from where we were trying to eat/chat. It made me so uncomfortable I asked to leave -_-
I just can't see why making a fool of yourself and possibly throwing up is seen as cool >.> That's not everyone of course. Just those who go on binges or those who 'drink to get drunk'/can't go out without drinking.
One other thing - I hate it when people look down on me for not drinking. It's not mandatory - especially when you have a good reason not to.
This is just my opinion. So please don't flame me too hard >.>
Some people actually enjoy the taste and don't drink to get shitfaced off of PBR and have an excuse to be a total douche.
Alcohol gets a bad rap from all the 17 year olds that drink trying to get 'totally wasted man,' and all that jazz. Some of it actually tastes good.. but it's not cheap stuff.
People mentioned "social situations where not drinking would be awkward." Can anyone describe these in a bit more detail or name a few? Beyond the obvious, of course (like a wine tasting, or any event where drinking alcohol is the express purpose of the event).
I'm not exactly fond of the idea of drinking. In movies or whatever, they always make the first-person view of drunk people blurry, tilting, and off-balance. If there's one gaming-relevant fact you should know about me, it's that I absolutely refuse to play or watch FPS games. I get motion sick like mad, and that feeling of weird dizziness is my absolute least favorite feeling in the world. I'm pretty sure that as soon as I get a little bit drunk, I'm going to barf. Like immediately.
Also, why do you need to drink to get laid? You go to a bar. Drunk chick is at bar. Drunk chick is willing to have sex with you. You remain pleasantly not drunk. I don't see the problem here.
try a long island ice tea, its 3 shots, but doesnt taste too bad. if you can finish this drink you will feel something . i hate alcohol in general, and the taste. thats why i go for hard liquor, since its easy to swallow a shot as long as its not straight 151.

Some people find being drunk pleasent. I think is the point. I don't think anyone goes out drinking regularly going "man, I hate being drunk."

Very first shot I ever took, half of it ended up on my shirt, it burned too bad >.<. I still don't know what drink it was either.
Although I'm not very fond of beer, I love Vodka and the majority of other "hard" alcohol beverages. I consider myself a pretty experienced drinker with high resistance.
It's weird but when I started drinking on my teens I absolutely hated the taste of alcohol much like every other inexperienced user. After a couple of years, for some reason you simply start... liking them a lot? As in, actually tasteful and very pleasant to drink. At least for me.
Okay, gotta mention I'm also BLESSED by the fact that I have pretty much very small to no hangover nowadays. Never got into a fight or any problems cause of it. But getting drunk and smashed is awesome and boatloads of fun - and it allowed me to make out and fuck with large amounts of chicks that I would have been never able to if I was sober.
It's how things work, at least here in Brazil. Go out, get smashed in the face, hit on countless amount of similary or even worse drunken chicks until you're able to make out or fuck one of them right away. That's how it's been every single weekened I can think of in the last couple of years, even while I had stable relationships.
But I don't advice anyone to drink. If you don't like it or have moral issues with it, then by all means, stay happy with your soda or whatever. I'll keep drinking until the day I die or get majorly fucked up because of it and am forced to quit.
I enjoy the taste of high-quality microbrewed beers, good quality wines, and high-quality hard alcohols. Some people do not. It all just boils down to your taste.
If you don't like alcohol, don't drink it. Society does place pressure on you to drink, but the pressure isn't that bad.
Good beers: Smithwicks Guinness (Hey, guess what I'm Irish) Guinness Extra Stout Spaten St.Paulie Girl Sam Adams Steam Anchor Sierra Nevada Arrogant Bastard Fat Tire Blue Moon Stella Artois
Okay Beers: Heineken New Castle Beck's
Shitty Beers: Budweiser Coors etc... anything that tastes like watered down piss in a can
Beer is amazing! Granted it is usually an acquired taste but it grows on you like no other!
On the subject of beers, has anyone actually tried smoked beer? I was immediately hooked the first time I had it: beer that smells like bacon (went amazingly well with pork chops). Try it if you haven't already.

You forgot about magic hat brewery, the new bud beer that actually isn't bad, brooklyn brewery, wicked pete (not his fruity lineup either,) and some other good ones, but not a bad list.
1 can of beer a day (and pretend it's soda, don't just chug it down) will actually improve your cognitive abilities, cause alcohol kills the dead brain cells first. Just don't drink too much, and think of it as medicine.
Combined with some exercise, that same can will make you lose some weight as well.

His uncle Larry. Hahahaha... Alcohol improves cognitive abilities... That's hilarious. Alcohol is a relaxant, which can make you perform better in a lot of ways, but the idea of dead brain cells getting in the way is hard to believe for me. Layman's neurology

Its all about survival of the fittest, the bad brain cells die first, leaving the good brain cells to remain.
The fact that you almost instantaneously become smarter the more you drink is enough evidence.
The problem is when the alcohol wears out, the good brain cells become really tired from overuse. This is why you get a hang over, being an einstein for more than 5 hours is tough work on your brain and is your body telling you to get some rest.
However afterwards you feel refreshed, and the next time you go out, you can drink even more and be smarter for longer! Some people mistake this for tolerance, its in fact the good brain cells getting used to working harder for longer. After a while your brain becomes really optimised and creative. This is why most philosophical ideals and hypothetical situations come from the pub.
Alcohol and getting drunk has lots of benefits. The 5 stages of drunkenness is tantamount to this.
Stage 1 - SMART This is when you suddenly become an expert on every subject in the known Universe. You know you know everything and want to pass on your knowledge to anyone who will listen. At this stage you are always RIGHT. And of course the person you are talking to is very WRONG. This makes for an interesting argument when both parties are SMART.
Stage 2 - GOOD LOOKING This is when you realise that you are the BEST LOOKING person in the entire bar and that people fancy you. You can go up to a perfect stranger knowing they fancy you and really want to talk to you. Bear in mind that you are still SMART, so you can talk to this person about any subject under the sun.
Stage 3 - RICH This is when you suddenly become the richest person in the world. You can buy drinks for the entire bar because you have an armoured truck full of money parked behind the bar. You can also make bets at this stage, because of course, you are still SMART, so naturally you will win all your bets. It doesn't matter how much you bet 'cos you are RICH. You will also buy drinks for everyone that you fancy, because now you are the BEST LOOKING person in the world.
Stage 4 - BULLET PROOF You are now ready to pick fights with anyone and everyone especially those with whom you have been betting or arguing. This is because nothing can hurt you. At this point you can also go up to the partners of the people who you fancy and challenge to a battle of wits or money. You have no fear of losing this battle because you are SMART, you are RICH and hell, you're BETTER LOOKING than they are anyway!
Stage 5 - INVISIBLE This is the Final Stage of Drunkenness. At this point you can do anything because NO ONE CAN SEE YOU. You dance on a table to impress the people who you fancy because the rest of the people in the room cannot see you. You are also invisible to the person who wants to fight you. You can walk through the street singing at the top of your lungs because no one can see or hear you and because you're still SMART you know all the words.

Maybe he was just nervous about being around such a pretty lady? Asking to leave immediately afterwards probably didn't help.

While I don't doubt there may be correlations, I highly doubt the strength of the relationships. Unfortunately I am not in the library right now and can't open the paper. I will try to read it later.
I know I'm bumping this, but it feels appropriate..... since I haven't been on TL pretty much at all in the last week..... But I discovered something on Monday.....
You know that disgustingly sweet Jolly Rancher soft drink? Mix that in about a 2:1 ratio with Vodka, and you can barely start tasting the alcohol..... If you wanna get drunk, but can't stand the taste, this is the way to do it.
theres actually a jolly rancher shot that tastes just like jolly ranchers and is around 20% if ur into that kinda thing, ive actually found that mixing a bit less then 1/2 cup of vodka and rest gatorade fierce grape tastes alright if ur goal is really to get wasted, its cheap, not too awful tasting and packs a real punch if u have about 3/4 of a mickey of vodka on ur own
