Hey guys, as the blog title says, im looking for old pc games. This is because the laptop I currently use cant support the newer games, (other than sc2, god bless blizz for making low settings so low), and in general, the old games used to be somewhat more entertaining. I didnt really play a LOT when I was younger, so I probably missed a lot of gems. Could TL please recommend some games for me that were AWESOME and will work on the following specs
Processor: Pentium Dual-Core CPU T4200 @2.00GHz RAM: 3.00 32 bit operating system Video: Mobile Intel(R) 4 series Express Chipset Family (1309 MB total memory)
I'm not sure about the video card...but thats what it says in dxdiag. so anyway, its not that great a laptop, but im sure some older games will work on it. And I missed out on a lot of those when they first came out. So please recommend me some old PC games TL <3

FFVII if you like RPGs at all and haven't played it. Heroes of Might and Magic III is also pretty good.
Maybe list stuff you've played already?
edit: omggg meant to post on my aka
|
Another option is to grab an emulator and a usb playstation controller and go to town. Though of dubious legality, you can find most games for older consoles for free!
|
oh my god orgolove you are a BEAST I already got FFVII jono, and yeah im an RPG fan tbh im a fan of almost all games other then car racing games ._. edit: lol why would someone rate this 1/5 ;_; so mean

KotOR 1 Planescape Torment Master of Orion 2 Baldurs Gate II Icewind Dale II System Shock 2.
|
Eh... I don't think his system can run ES:Oblivion, Empire: Total war, and Dragon Age. Might be able to enter the games, but they will lag like crazy.
|
I will say Baldur's Gate 2 is the best option there. Get shadows of amn! It's known as one of the best rpgs ever!

I second this. BG2:SoA is so incredibly detailed and well-thought out compared to any other game I've played. It's not ahead in my book by too large of a margin compared to Planescape, but since you enjoy RPGs then this is your best bet, even if you haven't ever played an AD&D game.
|
I rated it 5/5 because it is about the gaimz! Since orgolove already posted over 9000 games I really don't see any point on addin furthermore games before you tried out the majority he played. One game I can emphasize is: Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
I didnt really play a LOT when I was younger, so I probably missed a lot of gems
And since you are a RPG fan I recommend: Warcraft: Orcs & Humans Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
|
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of my favorite RPG's of all time. Somehow I always get sucked back into that game after not playing it for a year or so.
KotOR 1, Baldur's Gate 2, or Neverwinter Nights are all excellent games to start with (and are all unsurprisingly BioWare games).
|
Red Alert 2, oh my god that game was good
|
My vote gets cast for the following. In order of awesomeness.
1. Planescape: Torment 2. Grim Fadango 3. Carmageddon
|
The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind!!!!! --- best RPG ever!!! Star wars: Jedi Knight, Jedi outcast Heroes of Might an Magic 3

any game from this list really. It's missing some good important games, but it's a good ballpark estimation. This list + the suggestions in this thread should be enough for you.

very nice. i've got similar (slightly better) specs on my laptop, and i'm kinda in the same boat as you(bored as hell). will be looking into some of these games that i've never heard of :D
|
you could check out http://www.gog.com. they sell old games which were fixed to run on modern windows versions quite cheaply (6-10 US$) and have some really nice titles in their catalog.
i can recommend the Fallout titles (1,2,tactics), Commandos (very nice to play coop in lan) and Jagged Alliance 2 (beware: extremely addicting)

Your computer can support HoMM5, as well. SimCity4 is probably not that great, however, as it is quite demanding on CPU power as your city grows.
|
Robin Hood the legend of sherwood which came out in 2002 is really fun, theres no multiplayer but the single player missions and the game are pretty sweet, or at least they were the last time I played it.
|
If you like flying spaceships Freespace 2 was one of the greatest space simulators ever (I personally took that game way more seriously in terms of training than SC....)
|
orgolove: wtf, he can't run more than half of the games in your list reasonably OP: TES: morrowind, Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 or 2, Diablo II, Half life 1 and 2 (2 should be pushing it, but its a very well optimized game), Far Cry 1 (VERY good game, much more fun than crysis imo)
|
wtf orgolove lol
Diablo 2, Rome Total War, Half-Life 1/2, CS, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Deus Ex, Max Payne, Civ4

Definately morrowind if he hasn't played it, and absolutely everyone should experience playing Half Life 2 in a single sitting.. one of the best gaming experiences of all time.

Oh yeah Total Annihilation if u can find it
|
Wow, thanks a bunch guys, I fucking LOVE TL <3
|
games like Drakan, Dungeon Keeper, MDK2, The Dig, Planescape: Torment, Alice, Syberia, Gabriel Knight, Grim Fandango, Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts, Jedi Knight II, Thief are usually overlooked gems yet better than most of the games posted in this thread. Ok, I know PS:T and Grim Fandango were posted previously but they're both too good to go unnoticed.
|
Play the Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic franchise games.
Dating 1992-2009, these games will NOT disappoint. Best RPGs and turn-based strategy games ever made.
|
Planescape Torment slightly moded / Baldur's Gate 1+2 heavily moded / Deus Ex slighty moded.
My three favourite solo games. Planescape has the best story ever made for a video game. BG moded is still the Crpg king. Deus Ex is probably the best hybrid ever made.
pm for info about mods.

Seeing as orgolove has been fairly exhaustive, I'm going to just bold my choices from his list + Show Spoiler +On July 18 2010 12:19 orgolove wrote: Other Major Games: football manager 2009, 2010 Civilization 2, 3, 4 heroes of might and magic 3,4 (IMO 3 is much better than 4, but it's an issue of taste) elder scrolls oblivion (I liked Morrowind better, but there's the caveat that it's harder to get into) Final Fantasy 7/8 GTA 3/4 (Grand theft auto) Neverwinter Nights 1/2 (Note that the base content in these games is fairly mediocre--be prepared to spend several hours looking for custom campaigns, which is where the real fun lies) Sim City 3000/4k The Sims 4 Fallout 3 (1 and 2 are better, but as with Morrowind, are harder to get into) The Witcher (Enhanced Edition) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Portal Half Life 2 (First Chapter) Alpha Centauri Rise of Nations (Thrones and Patriots) Devil may Cry 3/4 Left 4 Dead Mount and Blade Medieval: Total War, Rome: Total War, Medieval: Total War 2, Empire: Total War Fable Dungeon Siege 1/2 Call of Duty modern warfare 1/2 icewind dale (Play BG2 and PST first, this can get very dry if you don't like the Infinity Engine) baldur's gate 2 (throne of bhaal) planescape: Torment star wars: knights of the old republic 1/2 (Make sure you get the restoration mod for 2) Command and Conquer 1/2/Red Alert/Tiberian Sun/Kane's Wrath/Red Alert 2 Warhammer 20k Dawn of War/Dawn of War 2 Company of Heroes Age of Empires 1/2/3 Spore
Latest games: Alpha Protocol (@orgolove: have they patched this game yet?) Tom Clancy Splinter Cell Borderlands Dragon Age Origins Assassin's Creed Bioshock 1/2 (Unless you're a big graphics whore, IMO System Shock 2 is better than both of these) Mass Effect 1/2 King's Bounty Divinity 2: Ego Draconis Street Fighter 4 Sniper: Ghost Warrior anno 1404
Some Minor Games: Stepmania (on Keyboard) Torchlight Nox Titan Quest Breath of Fire Severance: Blade of Darkness Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators Ur'Quan Masters (this one's free as well) Battlestations Pacific Jericho Risen Tropico drakensang Galactic Civilizations Sins of a Solar Empire Lords of the Realm 2 Sacred 2 Out of the Park Baseball (baseball version of football manager) Deus Ex (I'm disappointed that you called this a "minor game")
PS: Hi Boblion. I hope you don't plan on getting him to use Tactics or ScS on his first playthrough of BG/BG2.

Nah just stuff like widescreen mod / UB / tweaks / BGT
And yea +1 for HOMM3, Civ 3 and 4. Dungeon Keeper too.

|
