Yup.

I hate zvp. It's pretty much my worst matchup. I'm relatively low apm (120-130) player, but I usually get by on sheer understanding of whatever match up I play, so I maintain a pretty average middle D+ ranking.
I got into progaming in the heyday of zvz last year, so I gained quite a bit of understanding in it, and I practice muta micro so my zvz is pretty good. I really struggled with zvt for the longest time as a D player, but I looked up build-orders, practiced, and mass gamed until I really understood the match up, whether it's mech, 2 port, or standard 1 rax into cc. And so I got to D+.
But D+ protoss players actually know what they're doing. I never really looked up a zvp build order, I just went off of the fact that 3 hatch spire into 5 hatch hydra was apparently standard and winged it from there. Obviously I've refined it and have an idea what I'm doing since then, but I can't beat D+ players out of sheer hydra macro like I did against D players. It sucks. =(
So when I join a game asking for a zerg and see it's a toss player, after losing another two games against 2 gate and DT rush sneaking into my main, I'm like. 5 pool it is.
In regards to the game linked, he blocks it with a shield battery and pulling all his probes, I'm like lol and drone up and win in the long run.
EDIT: more info about the game, after my 5 pool fails to kill him and he blocks his ramp (this is python), so I take my natural, go to lair thinking mutas then get my third up in a kind of hidden position. I get a couple of hydras out to deal with the first sairs, he gets control of his nat with a dt, which then after some wonderful overlord mis-mangement gets 19 kills. I drone up some more, and so my econ doesn't kick in time to really deny his min-only third, we suicide armies into each other, and I win after taking a fourth and denying his fourth. Also won because of early +1 spines klling all his zealots and him not upgrading.

I mean, congrats on the win but what's the point of this blog? Anyone can 5pool and beat a bad toss. And it's a stretch to say d+ know what they're doing >.>
|
Dunno. Felt like sharing?
Anyway, it's more like D players have absolutely no idea vs. D+ players having some idea.
|
Uhh, you know there's a 5 pool econ build right?
5 pool, make 2 drones. Then 6 zerglings, extractor trick for 2 more. Then overlord and expand. It's been used quite a bit in pro games.

Oh by the way, D+ protosses suck with army compositions. All you need to do is get some lurkers so you can drone more then go 9 hatch ling into gg.
Or wait for them to whine about how imbalanced the game is and all you have to do is mass one unit.

This title reminds me of the first game between July vs Best in OSL finals.
What a series... July has the biggest balls.

congrats @ ur 5 pool lol,I've always 5 pooled against a play who goes random and DONT tell me his race.

July on medusa I believe? Was it a finals? He won after somewhat failing a 5 pool if I recall correctly.
|
so lemme get this straight, you 5 pooled him like a toss?

I think the DT got 19 drone kills.
But oh man you 5 pooled a toss? That's almost unheard of in the D ranks.

Pure hydra is great but as you've noticed will only get you so far. Mixing in some lurkers and lings for a more diverse army will get you noticeably better results straight away. If you're feeling fancy you can even switch back and forth between pure lurk/ling and pure hydra. My ZvP late game looks very similar to ZvT with lurk/ling/swarm and adding in ultralisks as resources permit, and I like cracklings a lot so I usually go for a pretty quick hive. Remember to spawn some mutalisks from time to time and go on templar assassination missions, since a protoss army without storm is mostly useless against lurk/ling or mass hydra.
To mix it up a bit you can also try muta or lurker builds. For example, you get enough resources off the opening double expand that you can get your 5 hatches down and save larvae in time to spawn 8 muta and 2 scourge when your spire finishes. The gas timing for that is same as 3 hatch zvt, second gas after starting ling speed.

You ZvP'd LIKE A TOSS.
That's pretty cool cause you weren't even playing as toss. Great now I'm going to be saying that line all day, now I want to play toss. Toss sounds funny after a while, but cool at the same time.
(actually, I wonder what tossgirl is up to these days... lol my thought process)

in all honesty he could have killed you when you expanded to your third, you had no colonies up yet at your nat and he had an army better than yours
he just waited too long and yada yada

If you 5pool, you're going to be embarrassed by 2 gate openings or most 1 gate tech builds, and if your opponent scouts you in time it comes out behind against a Forge FE Protoss who knows what he's doing.
I'd recommend a more stable cheese if you don't want to bother with standard play. (4 hatch hydra would also make it easier to win by massing hydras.)
