I was walking home in torrential rain a couple days ago - I guess thats why they put the "water" in Waterloo. Anyways, I had a small crappy umbrella over myself but my backpack and I still got soaked. So my Ipod Touch 2nd gen was in my front pocket of my backpack and during the rainfall somewater seeped into the bag...and somehow into the Ipod as well.
There are obvious "water marks" when I look at the Ipod - streaking lines across the screen. Now I think its because of this that my touch screen isn't working now . The ipod turns on and everything but I can't do the slide-unlock. I even did a factory restore but that did nothing.
Basically I'm looking for a mod of some sort to use my Ipod Touch with only the buttons cause thats the only thing that works now.
I don't really want to pay Apple to fix it cause I know its gonna be a fortune and they'll notice the water damage after opening it.

Maybe the water damage is preventing the ipod to recognize that it is being let's say "touched". Have you let it dry off completely? I'm also sure you could find some guide on how to open it up and clean everything without damaging it on the webz.

It's been 2 days I think it should've dried by now.
Mmmm...I'm not feeling too secure about opening it up myself.

Hahaha yah that thunderstorm came out of nowhere, my laptop got soaked a little bit as well.
But seriously, why would you use/test your ipod without letting it dry off completely first? X_X
You should have shut it off completely immediately, and air/blow dry it for at least 3-4 days because the water is inside your ipod which could take quite some time to completely dry.
At this point however, I recommend drying it further (powered off ofc) and trying again in 2-3 days. Other than that, I think you're out of luck:S

The rainstorm was about 2 days ago. I left it in my bag all along without touching it didn't even know it got wet until I went to work the next day - the body itself wasn't wet the next day but I noticed some had seeped through. In fact I could still use it normally then it suddenly stopped working (touch part).
Is there a way to operate an Ipod touch...without touch lol? Like somehow scroll through songs and stuff with the volume buttons or something

You can always try the site for ipod touch fans, This is the forum section you should search in i gues.
Good luck!

Put it in a jar of un-cooked rice.

Leave it plugged into a power source for a long time (at least a couple of days, maybe more) and try it then.

Shouldn't have turned it on right after you noticed it wet. The second you see its wet you need to wait, put it under a lamp or something for several hours because if theres just a little bit of water when ut urn it on, it'll short out.

Basically you have a couple of options. Call the apple people and they'll probably tell you to take it in to their store. If it's not under warranty I would personally go in and see if I could identify the problem whether it be remaining moisture or a short. If it's a short you're basically fucked though and will have to take it in or get an entirely new one.

Sounds like you shorted it out by using it despite the water inside. I lost my ipod the other day. Wouldn't care much if it wasn't for the fact that 160 gb of music gathered since like 1998 is gone due to my laptop dying on me the very same day. Fml.

this worked wonders for my ipod touch. I dropped mine in a puddle and grabbed it out as soon as it fell in so it was submerged for a second. I went home and put it in a bag with uncooked rice and left it there overnight. I turned it on the next day and it worked fine. It's been about a month and I haven't seen any problems with it

I don't know what the temperature is where you live but if it's hot leave your ipod behind a window in the sun for 1 or 2 days and if it's cold leave it next to a radiator or something like that. If there is water it will most likely first show itself as condensation on your screen. After the condensation is completely gone turn it on again and see what happens.
You can also try the rice solution but I have no experience with that. I know it works with putting a few grains in your salt shaker to prevent clumping but I don't know the effect/usefulness on electronics. Bit skeptical about it to be honest.

Hello fellow Touch user.
What Dance.jhu is your best option. Unsheath the Ipod from any cover you have, and more or less shove it in a jay of un-cooked rice. I fixed a few laptops and Ipods in a similar matter. Leave it in the rice for 1-2 days (don't cheat you're not helping anyone here if you take it out early.)
This could fix the potential problems with your I-Pod touch.
Does it sound crazy/insane? Yes.
Does it work? Yes.
How often? Too often to be "luck."
