I've been a very big fan of Stealth games since I was young, though it seem's that there aren't that many around nowadays. If anyone knows some decent ones for PC, please let me know.
Games I've Played: Oblivion - Stealth element didn't seem that big. Alpha Protocol - Was decent Some others that I've forgotten the titles of.
Please recommend me any, that are somewhat difficult in some aspect, as well as long hopefully.
*Must work on Windows 7.

Splinter Cell: Conviction is a lot of fun. Play it on the highest difficulty.
|
Most of the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell games have stealth elements to them.
edit - lol! Beaten by a second.
|
Hitman Blood Money
The stealth is mainly using disguises to your advantage. But you might like it.
|
Conviction has a lack of stealth imo. I just blazed through it on hardest with guns blazing, while blazing. blaze.
Chaos theory is my fav. splinter cell game, but the graphics are kind of dated. Could try out the Thief games, they are kind of hard core though. I also like the hitman games, although they are a different kind of stealth, having more to do with disguises than running around in shadows. And the oblivion stealth part is actually really great, by far the best part of the game I think, and way better than most rpg stealth elements.
I heard that alpha got a really bad rep, care to extrapolate on why you liked it? Thanks!

Beyond Good & Evil, but it's problematic to install on 64-bit OS. The game isn't really pure stealth, but it has some cool sections that feature it.
|
I never said I liked Alpha, not too sound harsh, it was just decent, the stealth portion that is. It was generally buggy and glitchy, so I never really got that into it.
|
Thief 1 and 2 are the best stealth games ever made. Absolute must play unless you're a graphics whore.
Splinter Cell 1-3 are good too, but the newer games kinda suck.
|
Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 Thief 1 + 2.
|
I'm not much of a person that cares for graphics, just gameplay is what matters most for me.
|
You could play as the Spy in TF2.

Thief practically created the stealth genre.

These are probably the best stealth games ever created.

I like thief a lot as well. But I am a big fan of the most recent hitman blood money really nice game.

thief 1 & 2, 3 is decent too though lacking in level size. they're pretty much the only REALLY good stealth games. i guess the older splinter cells are decent too.

All of the games suggested are great, kudos to hitman blood money. But the best game ever made, which includes a great stealth element, is Deus Ex. You can basically choose to play the entire game in 'stealth mode' and it's epically fun. It is also literally the best game ever made, of any genre and any platform; which is a plus. Also, playing through the latest Splinter Cell, finding it really enjoyable to be honest...
|
Thief series and like that guy above said, Deus Ex has some decent stealth compared to other games too.
|
|
+1 for Deus Ex. You can play through the game (30+ hours) only having to kill 2 or 3 people if you want.
|
You said Alpha Protocol was decent, your opinion is invalid.
|
CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK!!!
very good stealth aspects....fun as hell to beat it without using any guns on hard.

Have you played through it? IMO a great game, 8/10. The reviewers for GS and IGN did a hack job on this one. The European reviewers were right for this game.

Obviously mine and you're opinions differ on what "decent" means. My "decent" is playable, thats it. Alpha Protocol was playable, but not much else.
I appreciate everyone's feedback, I'm going to look into several of these games.

Most things already mentioned here...
Thief series, Splinter Cell series (up to 3, 4 and 5 just don't have the same feel to it any more as they're more of the shoot 'em up instead of stealthing around), Tenchu series, Commandos (but that's more of a tactical stealthing).
|
I've never played Thief 2 or 3, but I played the shit outta the first one. I've heard though that 2 and 3 were even better than the first.

you can play crysis stealthily if you want but it's really easy to just go run-and-gun the whole time which sorta defeats the purpose of stealth.
are the ghost recon games any stealthy at all?
|
Another vote for Deus Ex. Reason? The game is all about CHOICE. It gives you the option of playing the game as a straight up run-and-gun shooter, but also lets you apply as much stealth into your gameplay as you feel is needed. You can gun down everyone that stands in your path, or stalk them from afar with a sniper rifle, or lurk in the shadows and knock them unconscious with batons and tranquilizer darts, or hack into security systems to reconfigure the turrets, etc.
The level design reflects this theme of choice: most of them have optional alternative routes (such as vents and secret passageways) that provides you with multitudes of options when choosing how to approach your given objective.
Add in RPG elements and an awesome cinematic story and you've got one of the best games ever made. It's fairly old (2000-ish), but its gameplay has yet to be matched in my opinion.

Thief and Deus Ex get my vote(s), because mgs ported over to pc just didn't have the same gameplay.
|
Thief series Splinter Cell pre-Conviction Stolen Deus Ex Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay Hitman series, especially Blood Money Crysis series kinda, because of stealth mode Alien vs Predator series kinda, because of Predator Mirror Edge kinda Commandos kinda Shinobido if you can get a working PS2 emulator

Deus Ex and the Thief series seem very prominent, they seem like top picks for me. I appreciate everyone's input.

I'm pretty sure both of the System Shock games, as well as Bioshock, could be played pretty stealthily, though I must admit I haven't played either to any great extent :-/

Metal gear solid 2+3 will be enjoyable, both are insanely awesome games from an even more awesome franchisé

Sniper Elite is a great stealth type game.
You have a "cover" meter that shows you how well concealed you are. Enemies that will try and find you. Not to mention all the realistic bullet effects such as wind, breathing, distance ect ect that can all be turned on or off depending how hard you want to make it.
A really enjoyable game if you have the patience (which if you like stealth games you probably do)
Only downside is the graphics aren't that great, but hey, so what!
Also put me down as a +1 for Deus Ex, AWESOME game.

I've played Thief 1 and 2 SO many times, I can pretty much tell you where all the loot is on any level by now. Played hundreds of fan levels as well.
In my opinion, 2 is better than 1 simply because I like the atmosphere better. 1 is more medieval, 2 is more renaissance. 3 is awesome too, but I haven't played it nearly as much unfortunately.
Ontopic, I love sneaking games. Personally I feel Thief is the number one for this, and when you finish them, download some fan levels. But other than that, I can always ninja around in Aliens vs Predator 2 + Primal Hunt (LOTS of sneaking when you think about it, except for the human campaigns) Morrowind Splinter Cell Deus Ex Baldur's Gate 2 (if you count that) Outcast can be kinda fun to sneak around in, but it'll take ages that way. Serious Sam - The Second Encounter... BWAHAHAHAHA jk

Im running through Deus Ex right now. Pretty intense, I got the Hardcore mod for it, and I am playing on the Realistic difficulty setting, incredibly difficult. I appreciate everyone's input, and I will continually update my status on what games I am playing, and whether they are good or not.
