Desktop Icon Restore

If you're like me and game resolutions are constantly fucking with your windows resolution and rearranging your desktop icons (and you have a lot) then this is the answer.

Icon Restore

Icon Restore installs LAYOUT.DLL (along with the required registry entries) from Microsoft. Two new options are added to the pop up menu that opens when any Windows system icon (ex. My Computer) is right clicked. These options are "Save Desktop Icon Layout" and "Restore Desktop Icon Layout". See the screen shot below:

After installing Icon Restore, simply place your icons wherever you want them on your desktop, right click My Computer (or any 'system' icon) and left click on "Save Desktop Icon Layout" from the pop up menu.

If your icons ever get moved because your computer entered safe mode or you changed the screen resolution, right click My Computer (or any 'system' icon) and left click on "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" from the pop up menu.

Icon Restore is the perfect solution for people that have to change the screen resolution often.

Lol icons, i have none on my desktop, why would i use icons i have windows 7 i pin everything to my taskbar.

I hit the Windows key + first letters of the program I want to start. Nothing on my desktop except for some files that I use fequently at the moment. Nothing on my Taskbar either.

How do you do that?
I just hit windows key + a bunch of letters and my computer just started doing random crap :[

I used to start bw by doing this: ctrl + r, type sc and hit enter

Pretty cool, you have to add a shortcut called 'sc' to your system32 folder in able to do this

It should be in the properties of a shortcut, rightclick BW shortcut -> properties, there should be a "Shortcut Key" box in there.

You can use pretty much any combination of Alt-Ctrl-Shift as well as windows key, together with a letter.

Thanks Charlie, I started using this on my work laptop. Very usefull as I continually have to switch from laptop with just the laptop screen to docking with multiple monitors.
Now finally everything stays grouped correct.

At home I have only a few folders on my desktop with the programs grouped inside them.
For example the folder Multimedia contains VLC/Winamp/Vuze etc. The folder Office contains OpenOffice/Adobe Professional/Gimp etc.

I use Ultramon to keep a taskbar on my 2nd monitor and have seperate backgrounds on each monitor. It also has the benefit of saving icon placements.
