Okay, so we all know Blizzard has been constantly tweaking their league system and it looks like they're getting closer to a balance or more accurate measure of skill instead of basing everything off of records. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to go 5-0 anymore (apparently since patch 13) to get into the platinum (now diamond) league. Hell, you don't even need to go 4-1. If you're lucky enough like me you can get into the diamond league with a 3-2 start in your placement matches..
Now, I'm not saying I'm great or trying to brag (though as a fastest map player from SC I think I'm doing pretty damn well), but it looks like the system is getting closer and closer to perfection when it comes to placing players in their respective leagues. It's apparent that it's the ending scores that decide your skill level. However, in my opinion, I don't think I deserved the diamond placement. I was expecting to get into platinum at best. I did cheese my way through a few of my placement matches after all.
While I acknowledge that the leagues are getting more accurate it is safe to say they'll never be perfect and can only get closer and closer. I really don't believe there's any other way for Blizzard to base your skill level off of other than records and the ending scores (highly doubt they have some kind of system that deciphers your build orders).
Anyhow, here's replays and short descriptions of each match..
R(Z)vT @ Kulas Ravine (set: 1 of 5): http://vgcache.com/replays/3667
I started at 7 o'clock, enemy at 11. Opened up with a zergling rush, but he blocked off quicker than expected with a supply debot, barracks, and marine awaiting my arrival. Saw he had an early factory with no addon so I assumed banshees. Soon enough I was right, but luckily I had already teched to hydralisks. I fended off his early 2 banshee rush with my queen and hydralisks.. (watch replay to see the result)
R(T)vT @ Blistering Sands (set: 2 of 5): http://vgcache.com/replays/3668
Sent out an early SCV to try and bunker rush him, but he already started a supply depot at choke. I harassed his SCV to slow down his production (he went barracks before supply depot). Managed to kill one as he sent another. Harassed his first supply depot SCV for a bit. I opened up reaper and took out his first mule and 2-3 SCVs. He quickly took my first offensive out shortly after.. (watch replay to see the result)
R(Z)vZ @ Incineration Zone (set: 3 of 5): http://vgcache.com/replays/3669
Opened up with a zergling rush with a drone. Set down a spine crawler in his base as I harassed. We went back and forth for a bit with zerglings and his queen.. (watch replay to see the result)
R(T)vP @ Blistering Sands (set: 4 of 5): http://vgcache.com/replays/3670
Went fast reaper and took out 8-10 of his probes over a period of 2-3 minute and 4-5 reapers. Once he realized what was up he used his stalkers to make quick work of my attack. I proceeded to pull ghosts, marines, hellions, and medivacs.. (watch replay to see the result)
R(T)vZ @ Desert Oasis (set: 5 of 5): http://vgcache.com/replays/3671
Started off with a proxy barracks just north of his base. Set up a bunker behind his mineral line, but still under his cliff and without line of sight. I lifted up my barracks to gain the needed vision and harassed his drones (took out about 6-7 of them).. (watch replay to see the result)
So, folks, that's my journey into the depths of the diamond league. Now I can look forward to getting stomped left and right by all of you other diamond league players out there. Hopefully I can keep up my performance and not get demoted to platinum.

so basically you just random into cheese every game?

...In what way is going 3-2 and getting placed into Diamond indicative of the placement system nearing perfection? It makes me think the opposite.

Ya. Impressive stuff lul.

I disapprove of cheesy random players. + Show Spoiler + You didn't have to provide a description, like Ideas said, you just cheesed 5 games.

In a game of war there's no "no rush" or "don't attack me until I an get equal army." I really don't like how people cry about it. This is a strategy game where harassing the enemy and/or putting pressure on them early on is a very crucial tactic.
Edit: Furthermore, there's something called scouting. That's also a part of the game, or is that an unfair and cheap way to play too?

Agreed completely. Could OP please explain your reasoning how you think 3-2 into diamond means good placement system? I'm not trying to say you're wrong btw, just don't know where you're coming from. :/

I agree with you. Cheese is part of the game and people shouldn't get mad when they lose to cheese, alter your playstyle so you can absorb cheese, that's the best way to defend it. The problem with cheese is that people don't get to showcase their macro skills and big army micro skills.

People like you are the reason for me scouting on 8 whenever I meet random players...
|
Hmm I don't get why going 3-2 and getting placed into diamond makes the system more accurate. Especially since u say u cheesed your games, it would make me think that the system is worse since its placing you into the highest league even though u didn't display the skills to be in there.

Oh, and I'm fully aware that not all 5 of the placement matches are against diamond level players. Let's move on from that and focus on this cheesing aspect.
So it's lame that I've taught myself to play each race at least decently or better? Calling it lame is just another baseless insult that has nothing to do with gameplay itself. I guess I'll give it to you that cheesing as a random player in my placement matches is lame because not all the opponents are diamonds, but to complain about cheesing while in the diamond league is just retarded.
Edit: Added in the quote for reference.

im fine with cheese and although I never really cheese that much I think it's fun sometimes to fight vs cheese. It just sucks balls when a randomer cheese because they get the extra advantage of me having to prepare for every single type of cheese from each race. Randomer can cheese or just play standard and then I'm at a disadvantage from the start no matter what.
It was worst in BW as zerg because if I had to do some shitty BO every time because 12 hatch is super fucking risky vs Z and 9pool sucks vs T.
Really if you pick random it should tell both players what race they will role during the loading screen so they dont get that stupid advantage.

Very true, although my favourite part is "though as a fastest map player from SC I think I'm doing pretty damn well", hahahah, all we need now is a WoW player making a blog and saying the exact same thing =D

i'm not able to get any of my placement matches...

So going 3-2 in placements and getting put with the people who go 5-0 means it is working? I'm sorry what? I'm really confused with what you are arguing. Do you mind explaining more in-depth?
