This blog will chronicle my failures as a SCII player, as of right now. I've been invited to the StarCraft II Beta as of yesterday, May 21, 2010, and I'm just downloading a ton of patches right now. Do I expect the game to download and run smoothly the first time? No, I don't.
When I first played the original StarCraft, I was impressed, but I faulted the game for not being easy or obvious enough. There seemed to be an extremely steep learning curve, and I never got over it. Me and my brothers used cheats in single player, and we never seriously played multiplayer. The little bit that I did crushed my spirits and taught me to stay away from RTS games.
Since then I've been watching professional SC1 players, as well as the SC2 beta commentaries, and I feel a lot better prepared for the hardships and learning curve that I know is up ahead for me. This blog will be here to help me chronicle what I learn, as I learn it.
In a perfect scenario, I'll slowly claw my way into a comfort zone and get a hang of things, at which point I can build up my confidence and maybe even win a game against a real person. To me, winning a single game would mean victory.
Realistically, I expect to be the worst.

Yea the variations in ability are huge so you'll win games if you work at it.

There are people so awful in the beta right now... I'm guessing you'll be able to beat at least 1 of them. But if you needed cheats to handle BW's single player, who knows...

Nah, the matchmaking is one of the best things SC2 has going for it. You're going to be matched up with players who are around your skill level. It's not perfect, but that's because it's beta. After launch it'll be much better because of the larger player pool.

Matchmaking is the single reason I'm playing SC2 beta and not ICCUP right now.

There are some terrible people playing lol. My first 5 games ever were placement matches and I went 4-1 and got placed in the gold league when I had no fucking Idea how to play or anything (haven't really been watching and reading about sc2 here) so yea...needless to say I won my first gold match game then lost like 5 straight. Really wish I coulda been put in bronze lol. So don't worry you shall be fine
