So, patch 12 came along. I was done playing zerg a few patches ago, so i didn't give a damn about the changes. The seemed completely trivial and I was sure, I would keep my perfect score vs Z, as now even roaches are crap. Little did I know about the nerf for the german players.
Seriously, the little note about some hotkeys in the german version was the biggest deal for me today. First thing - my beloved grid hotkey layout doesn't work. Fuck. I spawn in a PvZ on LT (=freewin). Took me 30 seconds of hammering the Q-button until I realized, the probe was not coming. Some random zerg newbie 10 pooled me no problem. 1 game lost because of this shit.

So I start a custom game, fuck around with the settings for half an hour and it still doesn't work. I look it up on a german board, figure out that someone edited the patch file, so the default and the grid horkeys are switched. I download this, replace the original patch with this and test it in a custom game. Probes are building, pylons are warping too. Fine, lets kick some ass.
Blistering sands, my opponent is random. I scout after the pylon, find out that he is zerg, bite myself in the ass, because my beautiful Forge FE build is not gonna work. But hey, roaches are nerfed to death now, so now colossus rapes absolutely everything. So I play one base, tech to stargate, kick some overlord ass with phoenixes, even kill a queen. Then, at some point I was done researching warpgates. The first thing that goes wrong: one of my pheonixes dies to a queen while I was trying to lift her. I am like WTF. Then I try to build an expansion. Nothing happens. I don't get what is going wrong. Now guess what: the hotkey for "select all warpgates" (that is the stupidest function in the whole game by the way) is on fucking Y. In case you misunderstood:

This is the hotkey for EVERYTHING. Not only for building stuff, Y is used for every damn spell in the whole game.

You know what is sad about this? It took me no longer than 1 (ONE) game to figure out that this shit was not working. How the hell can this kinda mistake happen to Blizzard? Don't they even check their changes for bugs? It took me 5 minutes ingame to figure this glich out. Why the hell change it in the first place?! I mean the pylon and the assimilator (the only thing that was wrong with german hotkeys) are still wrong in the new grid layout so what the fuck did you even do, Blizzard?!
I know this is not a big deal, but crap makes it look like they are doing it on purpose. First they piss me off by forcing me to download the godawful german version, even after I chose to download the english one. They cripple the zerg players by cutting out the only useful UI feature in the game. Then they piss me off with this retarded achievement patch that covers half my screen every time someone wins a game on the ladder. Now they fuck up the hotkeys. What is gonna patch 13 bring with it? Will they send me a midget who punches me in the balls every time I get supplyblocked?

I think this would actually give you incentive to train to never get supply blocked ever again. Pretty good training method imo

I'm german too and there was no problem with downloading and installing the english version.... also they y-hotkey bug can be solved by changing your keyboard layout from DE into EN. warp in will be z i believe

Pull your Y key out and your Z key out, switch them, and then use EN US keyboard config, Y is much easy to reach. However I gotta say you should be hitting Alt often enough that reaching Y's current position shouldn't be a problem.

The new hotkeys for the German version are indeed terrible but it's not such a big deal.

This blog is lots of whining, not much substance. You act like Blizzard killed your dog or something. They don't owe you anything in terms of personal hotkey setup. Deal with it.

Im most shocked about how similiar that keyboard is to the standard english one. very few keys swaped around. thought it would be way diff

First off, why couldn't you grab the English client? Second, can't you just change the keyboard layout?
Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages -> Details -> Add
select and add English (United States)
Set the hotkey that switches between input languages to Shift+Alt, and just load SC2 and make sure you're playing with the English layout.
It seems like an easy fix, or am I missing something here?

Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean, yeah, Z is much commonly used in german that it is in english, while it's the exact opposite with the Y, so it's kinda OK to put Z more in the middle. But if it's the only change, that it isn't worth it at all.

Well, when I first got my key, I was aware of the fact that the german version was going to be as crappy as can get, so I registered a new account, selected english as my language, did everything I could, but it still gave me the german version after asking me like fifty times if I was sure about the language.
I thought about the english layout, but it's really annoying actually. You cant type properly with it, because of Alt+Shift it switches all the time in the game etc...
Actually the guy on the german board released one more edited patch file that fixes this glitch.
Sure, it wasn't that bad after all, but it hit me on that kinda day when everything goes wrong, so i needed some place to release my rage.
Ya know ... SC2 is srs bsns. :D

I quit the German version when attack was "T" and stimpack was "A"
