You'll find good friends and maybe a serious relationship.

If lucky, you'll even learn something directly from the classes you take (but don't count on it).

I'm business pre-med. What happen?
i'll give you a 100% serious answer. a business/premed combo is pretty rare but i've met a few of them at my school.

they generally tend to be a bit more laid back than your average science premed. that may just be due to the personalities of my limited sample size of people i know with that combo, but my personal guess is that because they are able to balance out their bio classes with non-bio classes, especially during their jr/sr years they tend to be able to focus more on their upper-div science classes since those are generally more time-intensive than business courses (both in terms of hours of class per week and amt of studying required)

college is fun..

except when you get to the finals...

then it's like 3 papers, 3 exams, and 2 class presentations

F-F-F-F-F-FFFFFFFFUUUU...

unless you're the type who can just blow things off.

for me, it's stressful, and the absolute worst part of college. unfortunately, it happens twice a year, and never, ever gets any better.

and then when you start applying for internships, you don't have summer to look forward to. I don't even feel encouraged to do my work because I don't get to go home right after finals. I gotta stay and do manager training for next year until mid June.

This really makes college seem like no fun, but it's not always this bad. I don't handle stress well. Haha.

freshman year in college has been the highlight of the 19 years in my life and i actually LOVE learning. it's all over tomorrow and i feel nostalgic for no reason. college has been extremely good to me. met some great girls and guys, already have best friends i will be visiting throughout the summer (southern califonria, boston, new york, etc), i enjoy my extracurricular involvements, achieved my academic goals for the most part, etc. oh and a lot of my friends who are pre-med at a pre-professional focused school like mine manage to have just as much fun. it's just that a lot of kids who choose to major pre-health happen to be antisocial kids, not the other way around. college, baby!

College sucks if you have a real major. The worst thing is you see lots of people who dick off, goto parties, play around outside and goto the gym and still get good grades because they have bullshit majors. Most schools this is humanities/business/soft sciences (sociology, psychology, biology). It's really depressing.

I'm just finishing up my sophomore year as a Electrical Engineer and Virginia Tech. It's so stupid hard that I went from being a straight A top of the class student in HS to a pretty average B student. My GPA this semester may be as low as a 2.5, and I might have to retake a course or two.

I think having goals is really important. I've noticed my GPA dropping as I've had less and less of an idea of what I'm actually trying to do. As with all things, it's an experience and your attitude will play a big part in how you view the experience. I know people who enjoy it and work twice as hard as I do.

However, whatever you do, do the hardest thing you can and stick with it. The difference in salary and career options with an engineering (especially EE/CPE) degree over a psychology degree is outrageous. Just don't expect to have any non-ugly non-azn chicks in your classes. =P

Also, in college you'll meet a lot of people. Most of them will be completely different from you. However, if you go to a fairly large school you'll still find a lot of people who have similar interests and outlooks. It also might take a while to find those people, but you will.

wtf you did not just group bio majors with sociology and psychology wtf wtf wtf lol

no i'm not really raging but i'm curious as to why you would group bio with psych/soc

and i 100% agree with the GPA and not knowing what you're going to do correlation. it's really hard to have the motivation to study for 4 years without a clear career goal in mind.

To expand on this point a little bit,

Join clubs that you are interested in (not the ones your future employers are interested), that will most definitely help.

Biology is a useless major, at least here. Biochem is the real major you do, or premed. Any real job you'd have use for a biology degree, either of those two degrees is better suited for.

It's actually a dying program because it's too generalized.

not really

Try going to a mediocre Uni and staying in first year res. It is like that for awhile. My roommates had 0.2, 0.5 and 2.0 GPAs.

College is different for everyone, and as many have said, it is what you make of it.

First of all, why are you going to school? Is it enabling a future career in graphic design, or is it just something to do after high school? Keep focus on your main reason for going to school, or else you're just wasting a lot of money.

Next comes the balance of a social life versus studying. You can certainly stay in all the time and study. You will probably graduate with high academic honors. Alternatively, you can meet many new people, join lots of clubs, get ultra-involved, and have less time for classwork. Most students, myself included, try and balance between the two.

You will meet a lot of people on that continuum. They are independent for the first time and experience all the trials that come with adult responsibility. You make good choices, you make bad choices, and you have the opportunity to learn from yours and others' mistakes.

Many options will be available to you. Choose the person you want to become and make it happen. Will it end up the way you envisioned? Probably not, but you will understand yourself and others better than you ever have.

Make the most out of college. You should work hard, party hard. Don't do a bs major like comm or something because it's truly worthless. Do some science or business and get on the ball with getting work done as soon as you get back from school.

Then at night go get fucked up. Repeat several times a week. Obviously not if u have a test. This will make college super fun, and you won't fail. Will also kill your liver.

There not really a "useless" major, if you are good at what you do, regardless what you study, you will most likely be "successful" (relatively, I guess) in life.

I think you have the general misconception that you will learn lots of practical skills from the courses, but that's not really the case. You will learn much more through the interactions between you and your peers and on the job than what the courses could teach you.

By "dorming", do you mean strictly living on campus because there are lots of off-campus housings that are just as close to campus. The effect of living on campus is largely dependent on the individual. Some people who are less social prefer to study by themselves, and living off-campus will often result in a quieter environment that allows you to focus better. The trade off is obviously the social aspect: both the partying and collective studying.
When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
