The "What U Hear" crackles and pops whenever I try to use it. I have windows 7, 6GB of ram, and sound blaster audigy zs 2.

This is driving me INSANE. I used "What U Hear" ALL the time with my streaming, and now I can't seem to get it to function properly at all. I'm trying to figure out how to set it up so I can do a dual cast in the coming days, but "What U Hear" is playing a staticy, crackly version of whatever I'm hearing on my computer.

Anyone have any ideas? :[

Audio settings are SO confusing. My suggestion is let R1CH remotely take over your computer and fix it in 10 seconds.

Has anything changed on your comp recently? Any software/driver updates, as far as you know?

I've heard people saying that reinstalling the Creative drivers has helped. Might be worth trying that if you haven't already, or if no one else can come up with anything a bit more helpful.

edit - I haven't come across this particular problem myself, as I haven't used What U Hear, but my background is in audio and audio production, so I might be able to help out a bit.

edit #2 - Just an idea - has it been going on for long? Or just since the SC2 patch?

You could fix the issue through virtual audio cables, you need 2-3 repeaters and you can stream amazing SC2 quality + vent + your mic with next to no delay. Let me know if you haven't figured it out we can get on a vent and I can show you or I can make screenshots of how I setup my sound for dual casts

I think the problem might be the audio is too high volume internally and peaks are getting cut off. That's just one guess, though, and there's other reasons why that can happen.

Does it crackle when sound plays or all the time? Can you give an example sound?

Also I have no idea what software this is occuring with. Have you tried recording with What U Hear using an audio program like Audacity or Goldwave? Does that also produce static?

/e I'm going to sleep right now so hopefully R1CH or someone is able to help you out. If not then I'll try to address any responses when I wake up.

Is your mic picking up whatever is playing? (IE. from speakers)
Try going to recording -> disable mic and see if its still crackly. if it isn't then try moving your mic away from the speakers and that should fix it

Because that can cause it, if your stream is transmitting both the "what u hear" and from an external mic (some sound cards mix both inputs in)

I saw today's episode and noticed you were trying to get Virtual Audio Cables to work, but I'm guessing it didn't work out because you ended up using the mic-record-speaker's-sound method.

I think how you would want to do it is this

Mic -> Line 1
StarCraft II -> Line 2
Line 2 -> Line 1
Line 2 -> Speakers
Line 1 -> Stream

To get more lines with VAC, you go to the Virtual Audio Cable's Control Pannel.

Start -> Programs -> Virtual Audio Cable -> Control Panel

On the top left you will see Driver parameters. Set cables to 2 (or more if you have a different flowchart of sound that uses more than 2 lines) and click set.

To route the sounds like the flowchart, launch Virtual Audio Cable's Repeater.

Start -> Programs -> Virtual Audio Cable -> Audio Repeater

I suggest making a shortcut to this because I don't know how to make it automatically start.

In StarCraft II, just set your sound to Line 2.

I'm not sure what you are using to stream, but I am using Adobe Media Live Encoder and in that I just set the Audio Device to Line 1. So just whatever you're using set that as the input device.

Lastly, we have Line 2 to Speakers.

I think this method is only in Vista and Win7, so if you don't have either, use Audio Repeater to route Line2 to Speakers.

Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound

Go to the "Recording" Tab, scroll down to Line 2, and click on Properties.

In Line 2 Properties, go to the "Listen" tab, check "Listen to this device," change "Playback through this device:" to your speakers, and click Apply.

Since you are also using it to dual cast, you can set your vent, skype, teamspeak, etc. sound to Line 2 so both you and the stream can hear it.
