I found some video one of my friends showed me from a Japanese variety show in which a series of celebrities (like actors, comedians, singers, ect) were lined up in front of podiums with a little yellow character with a bell on top of it's head. The hosts would show video of whatever current events were going on in Japan at the moment and the celebrities would take a hammer and ring the bell on the top of the character's head if what they just watched moved them in any way.
One thing they showed was a series of DVDs catered to people who are living alone or just lonely in which they can buy the DVD and pick from a selection of different people to "eat with". Basically, there was a surfer guy eating in front of the camera and then they showed a guy from Nepal eating curry with his hands and then a few pretty girls. The entire point was that it just featured people eating in front of you so you wouldn't feel like you were eating alone.
Please sweet Jesus God in Heaven, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please find me more information on these DVDs. Please. I'll love you forever.

That's weird, in Japan the social stigma of eating alone isn't as prevalent as it is in western countries. I'm surprised they have this, but then again if anyone were to ever make something like this I wouldn't be surprised if he were Japanese haha

awww, that sounds so sad... but imagine the table conversations you could have! you wouldn't have to worry about being interrupted and you could talk with your mouth full and nobody would care.

oh this is so silly haha.

It seems that many people in Japan feel extremely isolated and lonely (hence the number of otaku in Japan).
